The Rolex Sea-Dweller ref. 126600 and the current DOXA SUB 300T Professional are both automatic steel dive watches with helium-release valves and published water ratings above 1,000 metres. The Rolex has a slightly higher rating, a longer stated power reserve and published precision figures; the DOXA offers a distinctive bezel with a no-decompression dive-time calculator and a choice of dial colours and bracelet or rubber strap. Which is the better choice depends more on those differences, fit and local price than on the 20-metre gap in their ratings.

Specifications are from Rolex’s current reference 126600 brochure and DOXA’s SUB 300T Professional product page. Rolex does not provide a comparable case-height figure in the cited brochure. DOXA does not state a matching precision tolerance or certification on its cited page; that omission does not establish that the watch has none.
How the watches differ in practical use
Depth rating: a small difference that should not decide it
The published ratings differ by 20 metres: 1,220 metres for the Sea-Dweller and 1,200 metres for the SUB 300T. Neither figure is a sensible recreational diving target or a substitute for dive equipment and training. For most buyers, the difference is a technical specification, not a practical reason to choose one watch over the other.

Bezel: elapsed time or a dive-time calculator
The Rolex has a conventional unidirectional 60-minute bezel for timing elapsed minutes. The DOXA’s bezel incorporates a no-decompression dive-time calculator, a distinctive feature intended to help divers reference no-decompression limits. It does not replace a dive computer, dive tables, training or safe dive planning. Because the cited DOXA page is US-facing and specifies feet markings, check the marking units on the particular regional variant before buying.
Movement reserve and published precision
Rolex states approximately 70 hours of power reserve for calibre 3235; DOXA states 38 hours for the SUB 300T Professional. Rolex also publishes a −2/+2 seconds-per-day precision figure after casing and identifies the watch as a Superlative Chronometer. The cited DOXA product page gives no directly comparable tolerance or certification, so these published figures favour Rolex without establishing how the two watches perform in an independent test.
Case size, date and strap choices
The 43 mm Rolex and 42.5 mm DOXA are close in diameter. That half-millimetre difference alone cannot predict which will feel smaller: case shape, thickness, bracelet and wrist all affect fit. DOXA publishes a height of 13.65 mm; the cited Rolex brochure does not give a comparable figure. Try the watch on if fit is a deciding factor.

DOXA offers a Beads-of-Rice steel bracelet with a ratcheting wetsuit extension, or an FKM rubber strap. The options and adjustment mechanisms differ; available evidence does not establish that one setup is universally more comfortable.

What their histories explain—and what they do not
Rolex says the Sea-Dweller launched in 1967 in collaboration with professional deep-sea-diving pioneers. The brand gives its initial guaranteed water resistance as 610 metres (2,000 feet), rising to 1,220 metres (4,000 feet) from 1978. Rolex also describes the helium escape valve as an innovation patented in 1967, designed to release excess pressure during decompression in saturation diving. In the 2017 50th-anniversary update, the model gained a 43 mm case, calibre 3235 and Cyclops date lens. These are Rolex’s historical accounts, available through its Sea-Dweller history.
DOXA says the SUB 300T Conquistador launched in 1968 as the first general-public diver’s watch equipped with a helium release valve. The current-generation SUB 300T was presented in September 2019 as a tribute to that original, according to the DOXA product page. The “first” claim is DOXA’s own historical account, not an independently established finding here.
