Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch Active2 on August 5, 2019. In the United States, Bluetooth models went on sale September 27, 2019, with launch prices starting at $279.99 for the 40 mm version and $299.99 for the 44 mm version. Those are historical US launch details, not current prices or availability.
When was the Galaxy Watch Active2 released?
Samsung introduced the watch on August 5, 2019. For the US launch, Samsung listed preorders from September 6 through September 26, with Bluetooth editions available September 27. LTE versions were also slated to reach named US carriers beginning September 27. These dates describe the US launch; the available announcements do not establish one worldwide retail date. Both sizes have a round display, full-color Always On Display and Corning Gorilla Glass DX+. Samsung lists a dual-core Exynos 9110 processor running at 1.15 GHz, Tizen operating system, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi b/g/n, NFC and WPC-based wireless charging. GPS support listed in Samsung’s UK specifications includes A-GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou. Samsung’s specification table is the source for these manufacturer figures.
Bluetooth or LTE, aluminum or stainless steel?
The Active2 was sold in Bluetooth and LTE configurations, but Samsung specified LTE only for stainless-steel models. Memory also differs by connectivity: Bluetooth versions have 768 MB RAM, while LTE versions have 1.5 GB; both list 4 GB of storage. Carrier availability and support depend on the market and carrier, so the US launch announcement should not be read as a guarantee of service elsewhere.

Samsung listed aluminum and stainless-steel cases, with case weights varying by size as shown above. Both case sizes use interchangeable 20 mm straps, so a 20 mm replacement band is the relevant size to check when shopping; confirm compatibility with the specific band listing. Samsung’s product table specifies the strap size and the LTE/material limitation.
Sensors, durability and compatibility
Samsung’s announcement lists heart-rate monitoring with eight photodiodes, ECG, an accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer and ambient-light sensor. Durability ratings are 5 ATM, IP68 and MIL-STD-810G. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results; the announcement alone does not establish present-day regional availability of ECG or other health features.

At announcement, Samsung listed compatibility with Android 5.0 or later devices with at least 1.5 GB RAM, and iPhone 5 or later running iOS 9.0 or later. These are historical requirements and should not be taken as confirmation of current software support or compatibility.
What Samsung highlighted at launch
Samsung positioned the Active2 around wellness and connectivity, highlighting Running Coach, sleep tracking across four stages, stress tracking and LTE. These are the company’s descriptions of its features, not independent assessments of their accuracy or medical value. Samsung Mobile Press’s August 6, 2019 announcement describes that positioning.

Samsung Electronics America announced 2019 US Bluetooth launch prices of $279.99 for the 40 mm model and $299.99 for the 44 mm model. These figures are launch prices only; they do not indicate current retail or resale pricing. Samsung’s US announcement also gives the preorder and availability dates.
