The Galaxy Watch FE is no longer a rumor: Samsung announced it on June 13, 2024, and U.S. sales of the 40mm Bluetooth model began June 24, 2024. It arrived as a lower-priced way into Samsung’s health-tracking and Galaxy-device ecosystem. But Samsung marked the FE’s U.S. Bluetooth and LTE models end-of-life in March 2025, so availability and price now depend on remaining stock and sellers.
When did the Galaxy Watch FE come out?
Samsung announced the first Galaxy Watch FE on June 13, 2024. In the United States, the 40mm Bluetooth model became available June 24, with an LTE version scheduled to follow through Samsung.com, Samsung Experience Stores, carriers, and retailers. Samsung’s global announcement described availability in summer 2024 and listed Black, Pink Gold, and Silver finishes. Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement and global announcement establish that the watch has been on sale since 2024; exact availability today varies by market and retailer.
How much did the Galaxy Watch FE cost?
Samsung’s October 2024 U.S. MSRP sheet listed the 40mm Bluetooth model at $199.99 and the 40mm LTE model at $249.99. Those are historical U.S. manufacturer suggested retail prices, not guaranteed current prices. In March 2025, Samsung’s U.S. MSRP sheet marked both FE configurations EOL while retaining their listed MSRPs. That means buyers should check current stock, condition, seller, and price rather than assume the old MSRP reflects an available new watch.
What does the Galaxy Watch FE offer?
Core hardware
The FE is a 40mm smartwatch built around Samsung’s Exynos W920 dual-core processor running at 1.18GHz, with 1.5GB of memory and 16GB of storage. Its 1.2-inch Super AMOLED screen has a 396 × 396 resolution. Samsung lists a typical 247mAh battery and launched the watch with Wear OS Powered by Samsung and One UI 5 Watch. These specifications make it an entry-level member of the Galaxy Watch family, rather than a new-generation flagship.

Case, durability and connectivity

Connectivity includes Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi, NFC, and GPS; LTE is available on the cellular model. The FE’s case size is 40mm, so shoppers should compare fit and display size in person if they are moving from a larger watch.
Health and everyday features
Samsung advertises sleep-pattern monitoring and coaching, heart-rate alerts, irregular-heart-rhythm notifications, ECG, blood-pressure monitoring in supported markets, body composition, more than 100 workout modes, advanced running analysis, and personalized heart-rate zones. Other features include Find My Phone, Camera Controller, and Samsung Wallet. Samsung notes that feature availability depends on country, carrier, and paired phone; some functions may require a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone or be limited to supported markets. Its Galaxy Watch FE specifications and feature information also cautions that health measurements are for general wellness and fitness, not diagnosis or treatment.

Does the Galaxy Watch FE still receive software updates?
Samsung’s update log for model SM-R861 records the One UI 8 Watch upgrade on December 11, 2025, and AndroidWear 6.0 builds through August 24, 2026, including a security patch dated August 5, 2026. Updates can arrive at different times depending on model, country, and mobile operator. The update record is a useful sign that the FE has received software support well after launch, but it does not establish how long future updates will continue.

It can make sense if you want a compact Samsung watch, use a compatible Galaxy phone, and find a new or used unit at a price that reflects its older hardware and discontinued status. Its strongest case is access to Samsung Health features and Galaxy ecosystem tools in a small, durable design. The 247mAh battery, 40mm-only size, and W920-era platform are trade-offs to weigh against any newer watch you are considering. LTE is useful if you want cellular connectivity away from your phone, but check carrier compatibility and the cost of adding a watch line.

Before buying, confirm the exact variant, condition, return policy, and whether the seller has stock available. For a used watch, ask about battery condition and verify that it can be reset and paired with your phone. Check which health functions work in your country and with your handset. Samsung says the FE uses one-click interchangeable bands, but select bands are sold separately; confirm that a replacement band is made for the FE’s 40mm case before ordering.
