Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025 vs 2024: What’s Actually Different?

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025 is a modest refresh of the 2024 model. Here is what really changed—64GB storage, Titanium Blue and factory-installed One UI 8 Watch—and which Ultra is the better buy in 2026.

Short answer: the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025 is essentially the 2024 Ultra with double the storage, a new Titanium Blue finish and newer software installed from the factory. It keeps the same publicly documented processor, display, battery, GPS hardware, sensor family, case and durability ratings.

Buy the 2024 model when it is substantially cheaper and has a healthy battery, warranty or return protection. Buy the 2025 model when prices are close, you need 64GB, want Titanium Blue, or prefer a new unit with current software already installed. If you already own the 2024 Ultra, this is not a compelling upgrade by itself.

The hardware figures above come from Samsung’s published specifications and independent comparison coverage. The central difference is storage: the 2025 refresh doubles capacity from 32GB to 64GB. Samsung’s U.S. product page lists the 2025 Ultra with 2GB of memory, 64GB of storage, a 590mAh battery, L1+L5 dual-frequency GPS and up to 3,000 nits of display brightness. Samsung’s current Galaxy Watch Ultra specifications and Notebookcheck’s hardware comparison support that conclusion.

The three real differences

1. The 2025 model has 64GB instead of 32GB

This is the most meaningful physical change. The 2024 Galaxy Watch Ultra has 32GB of internal storage; the 2025 version has 64GB, while both retain 2GB of RAM.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That does not make the 2025 watch faster. Storage capacity is different from memory and processor performance. The operating system and preinstalled apps also consume part of the advertised capacity, so usable space will be below 32GB or 64GB.

For most owners, 32GB is sufficient for notifications, Samsung Health, normal apps, occasional offline music and GPS workouts. The extra space becomes useful if you keep large offline music libraries, podcasts, maps, downloaded routes or many apps on the watch. It is also more comfortable for buyers who plan to keep the watch for several years and do not want to manage storage carefully.

2. Titanium Blue is new

The original U.S. model launched in Titanium Gray, Titanium Silver and Titanium White. The 2025 refresh adds Titanium Blue, creating a four-finish lineup. Samsung’s 2025 launch announcement identifies Titanium Blue as the new finish.

Blue is a cosmetic choice, not evidence of a new case material, display, sensor package or internal design. Gray, Silver and White can belong to either release year, so color alone is not a reliable way to identify a listing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. One UI 8 Watch and Wear OS 6 were installed from the factory

The 2024 Ultra shipped with Wear OS 5 and One UI 6 Watch. The 2025 refresh shipped with Wear OS 6 and One UI 8 Watch, so it offered the newer interface immediately after setup.

One UI 8 Watch brought features such as Running Coach, Vascular Load, Antioxidant Index, Multi-Info Tiles, the Now Bar, redesigned notifications and additional gesture controls. Samsung also promoted Gemini integration through the Wear OS ecosystem. Samsung’s One UI 8 Watch announcement lists the major features that arrived on the Ultra.

However, this is no longer a decisive advantage for a fully updated 2024 watch. Samsung announced the One UI 8 Watch rollout for the existing Galaxy Watch Ultra on July 22, 2025. Samsung’s U.S. SM-L705U update record lists Wear OS 6 firmware released in July 2026, including the July 13, 2026 build. Samsung’s firmware history for SM-L705U confirms that the original U.S. Ultra is not permanently stuck on its launch software.

What did not change

Design, dimensions and display

Both watches use the same publicly documented 47mm titanium cushion-style case. The published dimensions are approximately 47.4 × 47.1 × 12.1mm, with a watch-body weight of about 60.5g.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Both use a 1.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 480 × 480 resolution, sapphire crystal protection and peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. The 2025 model is not documented as brighter, larger, higher-resolution, slimmer or anti-reflective compared with the 2024 model. Samsung’s specification page lists the same display class for the Ultra.

Processor and speed

Both versions use Samsung’s Exynos W1000, a five-core 3nm processor, with 2GB of RAM. There is no documented 2025 processor replacement or performance-generation upgrade.

A new 2025 unit may feel quicker than an old 2024 unit in everyday use, but that does not prove a faster chipset. The difference could come from a fresh battery, a factory-reset state, fewer apps, a newer firmware build or different power-management behavior. Do not buy the 2025 model expecting a major improvement in app launches, animations or workout processing.

Battery and charging

Both watches have a 590mAh battery. Samsung’s published claims are up to 60 hours with Always-On Display enabled and up to 100 hours in power-saving mode. The capacity and headline claims did not change between the two refreshes. Samsung’s original Ultra support information and the current product page provide the relevant battery figures.

Actual runtime depends on Always-On Display, LTE use, GPS duration, screen brightness, sleep tracking, continuous heart-rate and blood-oxygen monitoring, music playback, temperature and battery age. A lightly used or new 2024 watch can last longer than a heavily used 2025 unit. Conversely, an older 2024 battery may be the bigger risk when buying used.

There is no sound basis for claiming that the 2025 Ultra lasts longer. A controlled test would need identical firmware, settings, cellular conditions and workloads before it could establish a runtime difference.

GPS

Both Ultras use L1+L5 dual-frequency GPS. That can help with location tracking in difficult environments, but the 2025 model has no documented GPS hardware upgrade.

Accuracy still varies with satellite visibility, buildings, trees, weather, firmware, wrist position, route and whether the watch is using a phone-assisted location fix. A newer watch is not automatically more accurate.

Sensors and health hardware

The publicly documented sensor family is effectively the same: optical heart-rate sensing, electrical heart signal for ECG, bioelectrical impedance analysis, skin-temperature sensing, accelerometer, barometer, gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor and light sensor.

The 2025 model should not be described as having a new BioActive sensor or materially improved heart-rate hardware unless a specific controlled test demonstrates it. New health features can be software-driven or enabled by the same existing sensors.

Durability and water resistance

Both versions use a titanium case and carry the same broad ratings: 10ATM, IP68 and MIL-STD-810H. The Ultra also retains its Quick Button, multisport workout support, GPX route features, Night Mode watch faces, emergency siren and SOS functions. Samsung’s support documentation describes these Ultra features and limitations.

These ratings do not guarantee protection against every type of water exposure or accidental damage. Water resistance can diminish with wear, impact and repair history. Neither watch should casually be treated as a professional dive computer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Health and fitness: compare the software, not the launch year

On current software, the two Ultras cover the same broad feature set. Depending on market, phone and account, that includes:

  • Energy Score, sleep tracking and Sleep Coach
  • Sleep-apnea risk monitoring
  • ECG and irregular-heart-rhythm notifications
  • Blood-pressure monitoring where supported
  • Body-composition measurements and AGEs Index
  • Running Coach, Vascular Load and Antioxidant Index
  • Multisport workout tracking and workout comparison
  • GPX routes, Track Back and dual-frequency GPS
  • Emergency siren, SOS and fall detection
  • Samsung Health integration and Gemini voice controls

The important distinction is launch timing. The 2025 watch had these newer One UI 8 Watch features available at setup, whereas the 2024 watch received them through a later update. When both watches are fully updated, the software gap is much smaller.

Feature availability is not universal. Samsung says health and Galaxy AI functions can depend on country or regulatory approval, watch model, carrier, paired smartphone, Samsung Health version, Samsung account, network connection and calibration. Some features require a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone and may be limited on non-Samsung Android devices. Health measurements are for personal reference and are not intended to diagnose or treat medical conditions. Samsung’s product-page qualifications and One UI 8 Watch availability notes spell out those restrictions.

Two examples are especially easy to miss:

  • Running Coach: Samsung’s U.S. update note says outdoor running requires setup and at least 12 minutes with GPS enabled. Galaxy AI features require a compatible Galaxy phone, Samsung Health and a Samsung account.
  • Vascular Load: the watch needs an initial baseline, established by wearing it while sleeping for three nights within a two-week period.

Blood pressure and ECG are not guaranteed for every Android owner in every country. They may require Samsung Health Monitor, calibration, approved hardware and a compatible Samsung phone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Compatibility, LTE and bands

Neither model works with an iPhone. Both require an Android phone with Google Mobile Services, the Galaxy Wearable app and the necessary Samsung Health components for setup. Samsung’s compatibility guidance provides the setup requirements.

A non-Samsung Android phone can use the watch, but Samsung-specific health and ecosystem functions may be limited. Samsung currently identifies restrictions for features such as ECG, sleep-apnea monitoring, Energy Score insights, Do Not Disturb sync and Bedtime sync on some non-Galaxy phones.

LTE does not mean the watch can be set up independently. Initial pairing and activation still require a compatible phone. Stand-alone cellular service also requires a carrier plan, compatible carrier support and an LTE-specific model. Coverage and calling functionality vary by carrier and region.

The Ultra uses a dedicated band attachment system. The 2024 Ultra’s bands remain compatible with the 2025 Ultra, but Ultra bands are not intended for ordinary Galaxy Watch models. Do not confuse this system with the different attachment approach used by the 2025 Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic. Samsung’s band compatibility guide is the safest reference before buying accessories.

Which Galaxy Watch Ultra should you buy?

Buy the 2024 model for value

The 2024 Ultra is usually the smarter purchase when it is substantially cheaper and the unit is in good condition. A discount of roughly $100–$150 versus a comparable 2025 unit is generally enough to outweigh the practical value of 64GB for ordinary users.

Choose the 2024 model when:

  • You do not keep a large offline media or map library.
  • The watch has a healthy battery and a dependable return policy.
  • It has already received One UI 8 Watch and Wear OS 6, or you are comfortable updating it.
  • You want the same case, display, processor, GPS category, sensor family and durability at a lower price.
  • You are buying refurbished or used and can verify condition.

Buy the 2025 model when the price gap is small

The 2025 refresh makes more sense when prices are close. You get 64GB, Titanium Blue as an option, a newer product with potentially less battery wear, and current software installed from the factory.

The later release date may also be appealing if you intend to keep the watch for many years. But Samsung’s public watch documentation does not establish a separate guaranteed support end date for the refresh, so do not treat “one extra year of updates” as a confirmed policy.

Do not upgrade from a working 2024 Ultra

If you already own the 2024 Ultra and it works normally, the 2025 model is not a meaningful upgrade. Do not switch solely for speed, battery life, GPS accuracy, display brightness, new sensors or health features. Update the existing watch first; the major One UI 8 Watch features are available on it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Upgrade only if you genuinely need 64GB, want Titanium Blue, need a replacement because of battery or physical damage, or can sell the 2024 model and move to the 2025 version for a very small net cost.

How to identify the 2024 or 2025 model in a listing

Retailers often list both simply as “Galaxy Watch Ultra.” Samsung also uses the same U.S. base model family, SM-L705U, for the Ultra, so that identifier alone may not distinguish the storage generation.

  1. Check storage first. A listing that clearly says 64GB indicates the 2025 refresh; 32GB indicates the original model.
  2. Verify the exact SKU. U.S. 2025 refresh examples include SM-L705UZB1XAA for Titanium Blue, SM-L705UZA1XAA for Titanium Gray, SM-L705UZS1XAA for Titanium Silver and SM-L705UAW1XAA for Titanium White. Earlier U.S. 2024 examples include SM-L705UDAAXAA, SM-L705UZTAXAA and SM-L705UZWAXAA. Regional SKUs differ, so use these as U.S. examples rather than universal identifiers. See Samsung’s 2025 U.S. MSRP file and 2024 U.S. MSRP file.
  3. Use color only as a clue. Titanium Blue strongly indicates the 2025 refresh, but Gray, Silver and White exist in both generations.
  4. Confirm after setup when possible. On the watch, open Settings > About watch, or use the corresponding device-information screen in Galaxy Wearable, and confirm storage. Menu wording can vary by software version.
  5. For used units, verify condition. Check battery behavior, charging, screen and case damage, LTE activation status, return rights and whether the previous owner removed their account.

What about the Galaxy Watch Ultra2?

As of August 10, 2026, neither the 2024 nor 2025 model is Samsung’s newest Ultra. The separate Galaxy Watch Ultra2 became generally available in the U.S. on August 7, 2026, with a $699.99 starting price. Samsung lists an 800mAh battery, Snapdragon Wear Elite platform, a 5,000-nit display and Wear OS 7 for the Ultra2. Samsung’s Ultra2 announcement provides the current specifications.

This does not make the 2025 Ultra a bad buy. It does change the comparison: if a discounted 2025 Ultra approaches the Ultra2’s actual sale price, the newer model deserves consideration. If the 2025 Ultra is meaningfully cheaper and you do not need Ultra2’s newer platform, larger battery or additional outdoor features, the refresh remains a sensible value.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Final verdict

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025 is a minor refresh, not a new-generation Ultra. Its real advantages are 64GB storage, Titanium Blue and newer software out of the box. Once the 2024 model is updated to One UI 8 Watch and Wear OS 6, the two watches are otherwise very close in documented hardware and capabilities.

For most buyers, choose the 2024 model when it is around $100–$150 cheaper in similar condition. Choose the 2025 model when the price difference is small, 64GB matters, you want Titanium Blue, or you value a fresh battery and full new-product warranty. Existing 2024 owners should keep their watch unless storage, condition or price creates a specific reason to change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025 faster than the 2024 model?

No. The 2025 model uses the same publicly documented Exynos W1000 processor and 2GB of RAM. Any perceived speed difference may come from newer firmware, battery condition or a cleaner setup.

Does the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025 have more storage?

Yes. The 2024 Galaxy Watch Ultra uses 32GB, while the 2025 refresh uses 64GB. The extra space mainly benefits users who store offline music, maps, podcasts or many apps.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Are 2024 Galaxy Watch Ultra bands compatible with the 2025 model?

Yes. The two Ultra versions use the same Ultra-specific band attachment system, so 2024 Ultra bands remain compatible with the 2025 Ultra.

Should 2024 Galaxy Watch Ultra owners upgrade?

Usually, no. If your 2024 Ultra works properly and has One UI 8 Watch/Wear OS 6, the 2025 model does not offer a meaningful performance, battery, GPS or sensor upgrade.

How can you tell whether a listing is the 2024 or 2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra?

Check the storage specification and exact SKU. Titanium Blue is a strong indicator of the 2025 refresh, but Gray, Silver and White appear in both generations. The U.S. SM-L705U base model number alone may not identify the year.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Buy the 2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra for storage, color, condition or warranty—not for faster performance, longer battery life, better GPS or fundamentally newer health hardware. A discounted, updated 2024 Ultra is usually the better value.
