The Galaxy Watch7 did get a faster-charging setup, but it is not the sustained 15W upgrade some pre-launch reports led buyers to expect. Samsung’s official claim is up to 45% in 30 minutes with its EP-OL300 charging puck and a 10W-or-higher adapter; independent testing put a full charge at about 90–100 minutes. The practical gain is most useful for quick top-ups, not for turning a full recharge into a 45-minute job.
Why the Galaxy Watch7 was rumored to charge at 15W
In May 2024, a pre-launch report interpreted FCC-related certification material for the LTE Galaxy Watch7 model SM-L305 as listing a 5V/3A input. Multiplying volts by amps gives 15 watts, prompting predictions that the Watch7 could charge about 50% faster than the Watch6, whose charging was described as 10W. The report also said the four Watch7 variants—SM-L305, SM-L300, SM-L310 and SM-L315—were expected to support the capability. That was an interpretation of certification material, not Samsung’s final consumer-facing charging specification.
Three different figures are easy to conflate: an adapter’s rated output, a device’s maximum negotiated input, and the power the battery actually receives over an entire charge. A 15W input figure does not establish that the watch draws 15W continuously. Charging rate also changes during a charge cycle, and the watch can reduce input as the battery fills.
What Samsung officially says about Watch7 charging
Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch7 on July 10, 2024, with general availability beginning July 24. Its product information describes charging as “Fast Charging” with WPC-based wireless charging; it does not list 15W as the watch’s official charging speed. The 40mm model has a 300mAh typical battery and the 44mm model a 425mAh typical battery. Samsung’s launch specifications are here.

For the dedicated EP-OL300 puck, Samsung says a Galaxy Watch5 series or later is required for fast charging and specifies a 10W-or-higher power adapter. Its claim for the Watch7 is up to 45% in 30 minutes. “Up to” is a manufacturer’s best-case claim, not a guaranteed result for every starting battery level, temperature, model or setup. How long does it take to charge in practice?
Android Central’s review reported roughly 90–100 minutes for a full Watch7 charge. That is a much more useful expectation for planning a 0-to-full recharge than extrapolating Samsung’s 30-minute top-up claim. Charging is not a straight-line process: a 45% gain early in a charge does not mean the remaining 55% takes the same amount of time.

The pre-launch idea of a 45-minute full charge was a theoretical projection based on the 15W interpretation, not a result established after release. Likewise, comparing 15W with 10W yields a theoretical 50% difference in input power, but does not prove a 50% reduction in charging time. Such a comparison assumes both watches sustain their maximum rates and have matching charging curves, thermal conditions, accessories and battery behavior. Android Central’s Watch7 charging estimate does not establish a sustained 50% faster full charge over the Watch6. Android Central’s review covers its charging and battery-life observations.
- Quick top-up: The newer charging setup can make a short session more useful, particularly before a workout, bedtime or the start of a day.
- Full recharge: Allow around 90–100 minutes based on Android Central’s review, rather than planning on a sub-hour charge.
- Power figure: Treat 15W as a pre-release certification interpretation, not a representative sustained rate at the watch.
Which charger and adapter should you use?
For the fast-charging experience Samsung describes, use the EP-OL300 puck with an approved or reputable USB-C adapter rated at least 10W. Samsung says the adapter is sold separately on its charger page. A 25W or 45W phone adapter can provide adequate power headroom, but it does not force the watch to draw 25W or 45W; the watch and charging system determine the actual input.

- Connect the EP-OL300 to a 10W-or-higher adapter.
- Place the watch centrally on the puck so the charging surfaces align.
- Remove a thick case or accessory if it keeps the watch from sitting flat.
- Charge in a reasonably cool environment and expect the rate to taper as the battery approaches full.
Older Galaxy Watch pucks may still charge the Watch7, but Samsung warns they can charge it more slowly and recommends the supplied EP-OL300 for faster charging. Samsung attributes the change to the redesigned rear sensor and back-glass geometry, which increase the distance between the charging coil and puck. So “compatible” does not mean “equally fast.” Samsung explains the charging and Wireless PowerShare changes.

The Watch7’s redesign therefore trades phone-based emergency charging for a newer puck-based setup. It also means a Watch6 owner who relies on Wireless PowerShare or an older multi-device charging stand should weigh that loss against the benefit of quicker top-ups. Available figures do not support describing the Watch7 as a guaranteed 50% faster full-charge experience.

Does the charging improvement matter for an upgrade?
Watch4 or Watch5 owners
The faster top-up setup may be a worthwhile convenience if charging interruptions regularly interfere with workouts or sleep tracking. The case is stronger when considered alongside the Watch7’s other hardware changes, rather than as a standalone promise of a dramatically shorter full charge.
Watch6 owners
If the Watch6’s charging routine already works for you, charging alone is a weak reason to upgrade. The Watch7 offers a more useful short top-up with the right puck, but it also drops Wireless PowerShare and does not deliver an established 50% reduction in full-charge time.

First-time Galaxy Watch buyers
The Watch7 is a reasonable choice if you want its overall feature set and can use the EP-OL300 setup. If shopping among Watch7, Watch8, Watch Ultra or Watch FE, compare the complete watch—battery capacity, design, features and charging accessories—not just the early 15W headline. The available figures here do not establish a current charging-time comparison across those models.
People who depend on emergency phone charging
Do not choose the Watch7 expecting to top it up from a compatible Galaxy phone: Samsung says Wireless PowerShare is unsupported on this model. Keep the dedicated puck available instead.

What to check if Watch7 charging seems slow
- It charges slowly on an old puck: Try the EP-OL300, which Samsung recommends for faster Watch7 charging.
- Charging starts and stops: Re-center the watch, remove anything blocking a flat fit, and check that the puck and adapter are properly connected.
- A phone will not charge it: This is expected because Wireless PowerShare is not supported.
- The rate drops near full: Charging normally slows as the battery fills; this is not evidence by itself of a fault.
- A high-wattage adapter makes no difference: The adapter’s maximum rating does not determine the watch’s draw. Check the puck, alignment and temperature as well.
- Charging is unusually slow or the watch feels warm: Try the supplied puck, a different approved adapter, a cooler location and a clean charging surface. Avoid judging a charging-time claim without its starting battery percentage; a partial top-up and a full charge are different tests.
