The 2024 Galaxy Watch7 is the lighter, less expensive choice, available in 40mm and 44mm sizes with Bluetooth or LTE. The first-generation Galaxy Watch Ultra is a single 47mm LTE model with a titanium-grade case, a 590mAh battery and stronger water-resistance specifications. Both use Samsung’s Exynos W1000 platform, 2GB of memory, 32GB of storage and the same core BioActive health-sensor system, so the Ultra’s premium is primarily for battery capacity, rugged construction, cellular connectivity and outdoor-focused controls—not a faster processor.

Galaxy Watch7 sizes, design and display
40mm model
The 40mm Watch7 measures 40.4 × 40.4 × 9.7mm and weighs 28.8g before the strap. Its 1.3-inch, 432 × 432 Super AMOLED display is the easiest to wear on a small wrist, but its 300mAh battery and smaller screen leave less room for maps, messages and on-watch typing.
44mm model
The 44mm version measures 44.4 × 44.4 × 9.7mm and weighs 33.8g. It adds a 1.5-inch, 480 × 480 display and a 425mAh battery while retaining the thin Armor Aluminum case. For many users it is the practical middle ground: more screen and endurance than the 40mm without the Ultra’s bulk.

Both Watch7 sizes use sapphire crystal, a full-color always-on display and interchangeable bands. The official dimensions, weights and display figures are listed by Samsung Mobile Press.
Galaxy Watch Ultra: what the premium model adds
The original 2024 Ultra comes only as a 47mm LTE watch. Its approximately 47.1 × 47.4 × 12.1mm case and 60.5g weight are substantially larger than either Watch7, even before adding the band. Samsung uses a titanium-grade case, sapphire crystal and a more protective outdoor design with dedicated controls and fitness-oriented features.
Its 1.5-inch, 480 × 480 Super AMOLED display has the same nominal size and resolution as the 44mm Watch7. The larger case therefore does not automatically mean a larger or sharper screen.

Battery and charging
Capacity rises from 300mAh in the 40mm Watch7 to 425mAh in the 44mm model and 590mAh in the Ultra. Samsung rates the Ultra at up to 100 hours in power-saving mode and up to 48 hours in exercise power-saving mode. These are manufacturer claims under specified modes, not guaranteed everyday runtimes. LTE use, GPS, always-on display, brightness, health monitoring, notifications and workouts can substantially change battery life.
All three watches support fast charging through WPC-based wireless charging. That does not mean every Qi charger will deliver the same result; use a compatible Samsung charging accessory and observe its requirements. Samsung documents the battery and charging platform in its specification table.
Durability and water resistance
Watch7 has 5ATM and IP68 ratings, an Armor Aluminum case and MIL-STD-810H certification. The Ultra raises the stated water-resistance rating to 10ATM, keeps IP68 and MIL-STD-810H, and adds its titanium-grade construction. Samsung positions the Ultra for demanding outdoor use, including ocean swimming and a broader range of temperature and altitude conditions; see Samsung’s comparison guidance.

Neither rating means waterproof or indestructible. Seals can deteriorate with age, impact, chemicals or repairs, and water resistance is not a promise of suitability for every water activity. Rinse the watch after exposure to salt or pool water and follow Samsung’s care instructions.
Processor, software and storage
There is no meaningful processing advantage for the Ultra on paper. All versions use Samsung’s five-core, 3nm Exynos W1000, 2GB of memory and 32GB of storage. They launched with Wear OS 5 powered by Samsung and One UI 6 Watch. Those are launch-platform labels; software updates may change the interface and available features by 2026.

Both families use Samsung’s BioActive Sensor, combining optical bio-signal, electrical heart-signal and bioelectrical-impedance sensing. Each also includes a temperature sensor, accelerometer, barometer, gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor and light sensor. This hardware supports Samsung Health functions such as heart-rate, ECG-related measurements where approved, body-composition estimates, sleep and exercise tracking.

- Feature availability varies by country, regulatory approval, phone model, Samsung account and app version.
- Samsung’s sleep-apnea feature requires compatible hardware and wearing the watch for seven nights within a 30-night period on Samsung’s U.S. product information page.

Shared connectivity includes Bluetooth 5.3, 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, NFC, dual-frequency GPS using L1/L5, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo. Watch7 is offered in Bluetooth and LTE configurations; the original Ultra is LTE-only. LTE still requires a supported carrier, compatible plan and eSIM activation, and does not make every app independent of a phone.
Samsung requires an Android phone running Android 11 or later with at least 1.5GB of memory, plus Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health software. Neither watch supports iPhone pairing. Basic functions may work with non-Samsung Android phones, but Samsung-exclusive health features can require a compatible Galaxy phone. Samsung explains the limitations in its watch compatibility support page.

U.S. pricing and product context
Samsung’s U.S. MSRP sheet effective June 2026 lists the following prices:
| Configuration | Listed MSRP |
|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch7 40mm Bluetooth | $249.99 |
| Galaxy Watch7 40mm LTE | $299.99 |
| Galaxy Watch7 44mm Bluetooth | $279.99 |
| Galaxy Watch7 44mm LTE | $329.99 |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra 47mm LTE | $649.99 |
These are dated U.S. MSRPs, not live sale prices. Check the June 2026 MSRP sheet for the source. Samsung’s 2026 materials also list Watch8 and newer Ultra products, so this article concerns the original 2024 Ultra rather than Samsung’s newest generation.
Which model should you buy?
Choose the 40mm Galaxy Watch7 if
- You have a smaller wrist or prefer the lightest case.
- You want the lowest entry price and do not need LTE or the Ultra’s rugged specification.
- Your use is mainly notifications, sleep, health tracking, workouts and Samsung-phone integration.
Choose the 44mm Galaxy Watch7 if
- You want the largest Watch7 display and battery without a 60.5g case.
- You need a comfortable everyday watch and can accept less battery than the Ultra.
- You want a choice between Bluetooth and LTE.
Choose the Galaxy Watch Ultra if
- Battery capacity, LTE, titanium-grade construction and outdoor durability justify the added cost.
- You regularly hike, trail-run, cycle, swim or record long GPS workouts.
- A 47mm, 12.1mm-thick, 60.5g watch is comfortable on your wrist.
Why the Ultra may be poor value
It costs considerably more, is nearly twice the case weight of the 44mm Watch7, offers the same nominal display size and resolution, and shares the processor, memory, storage and core sensor package. If you do not need its battery, LTE or rugged outdoor features, the premium buys little functional advantage.
The Bottom Line
Buy the 44mm Galaxy Watch7 for the best balance of screen, battery, comfort and price; choose the 40mm for a smaller wrist or lower cost. Choose the original Galaxy Watch Ultra only when its 590mAh battery, LTE-only setup, titanium-grade case and 10ATM outdoor durability matter enough to justify its size and June 2026 U.S. MSRP of $649.99.
