Samsung lists peak display brightness of 3,000 nits and describes it as 50% brighter than previous Galaxy Watches. This is Samsung’s comparison claim, not an independent test result. Battery capacities are typical values, not promised runtimes; Samsung says actual battery life depends on use, model, network, and other factors.
What is new in the Galaxy Watch8?
The series launched with Wear OS 6 powered by Samsung and One UI 8 Watch. Samsung highlighted Gemini voice interaction with supported watch apps, Multi-Info Tiles, and a Now Bar. Gemini requires a compatible Wear OS watch connected to a compatible device; availability can depend on device, language, country, subscription, and account.
Samsung also introduced health and fitness features including Bedtime Guidance, Vascular Load, Antioxidant Index, Running Coach, High Stress Alert, Mindfulness Tracker, and Energy Score. Samsung describes these as general wellness and fitness functions, not tools for detecting, diagnosing, treating, monitoring, or managing medical conditions. Health information is not medical advice, and feature availability can vary.
Sleep and wellness features
Samsung says Bedtime Guidance analyzes three days of sleep to suggest a bedtime based on circadian rhythm and sleep pressure. Vascular Load monitors vascular-system stress during sleep; Samsung says users need to wear a compatible Galaxy Watch while sleeping for at least three of the most recent 14 days. Energy Score combines physical and mental energy metrics and requires the user to have registered a compatible Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Ring at least once.

Antioxidant Index
Samsung says Antioxidant Index uses the rear sensor to measure carotenoid levels when the user holds a finger on the sensor for five seconds. The company notes that skin texture can affect repeat readings. Treat it as a wellness feature, not a clinical test or diagnosis.
Running Coach and stress tools
Samsung says Running Coach assigns a running level from 1 to 10 and provides a training plan after the user completes a running-level test. High Stress Alert and Mindfulness Tracker support stress awareness and breathing exercises. These are fitness and wellness features, not professional coaching or medical care.
Is Galaxy Watch8 compatible with my phone?
Samsung lists Android 12.0 or later and more than 1.5GB of phone memory as the baseline. Activation requires connection to a smartphone that supports Google Mobile Services. Samsung cautions that compatible devices vary by market, carrier, and brand, so do not assume every Android phone will work.
| Phone type | What to know |
|---|---|
| Samsung Galaxy phone | Meets the listed Android baseline if it has Android 12 or later and more than 1.5GB of memory; feature availability can still vary. |
| Other Android phone | Must meet the baseline and support Google Mobile Services; compatibility and feature support vary by device and market. |
| iPhone | Not compatible with the Galaxy Watch8. |
Check local requirements for any health feature that matters to you before buying. Samsung cautions that feature availability can vary by market, carrier, model, and paired smartphone.
LTE or Bluetooth: which Galaxy Watch8 should you buy?
The Bluetooth model is intended for use with a paired phone and known Wi-Fi networks. LTE is available only on LTE models and can support connected use away from the phone, subject to carrier support, activation, and regional availability. Check the exact model and carrier terms before buying; plan costs and requirements vary.

- You regularly leave your phone behind.
- You want cellular connectivity on the watch when away from your phone.
- Your carrier supports the exact LTE model and you have checked activation and plan requirements.
Band and charging accessories
Samsung lists WPC-based wireless fast charging. Charging time varies with region, settings, use, and environmental factors; Samsung’s charging test used prerelease watches, a Galaxy Watch Magnetic Fast Charging USB-C Cable (EP-OL300), and a Samsung 25W USB-C power adapter (EP-TA800), sold separately.
Samsung says bands are sold separately and availability varies. When shopping for a replacement band, confirm exact model and case-size compatibility rather than relying on a generic “Galaxy Watch” label.
