I’d buy the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic 46mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi. Its rotating bezel and programmable action button make it the most satisfying everyday watch in the 2025 lineup, and it lasts longer between charges than the standard Watch8 in independent testing. At the U.S. MSRP listed in Samsung’s June 2026 price sheet, it costs $499.99. That recommendation comes with a major caveat: the Classic is large and weighs 63.5g. Choose the 44mm Watch8 if you want a lighter, less expensive daily watch; choose the Ultra if rugged outdoor features and a larger battery matter more than size, price, or conventional styling.
Which Galaxy Watch8 should you buy?
The 2025 lineup includes two sizes of standard Galaxy Watch8, one Watch8 Classic size, and a refreshed Galaxy Watch Ultra. The Classic is my pick for buyers who want the best all-round daily experience; the standard 44mm is the sensible value alternative, while the Ultra is a specialist choice rather than the default upgrade.
| Model | Size and weight | Battery capacity | Connectivity | U.S. MSRP, June 2026 | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch8 | 40mm, 30g; 44mm, 34g | 325mAh (40mm); 435mAh (44mm) | Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE | $349.99 (40mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi); $379.99 (44mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi); LTE versions cost $50 more | Smaller wrists, lighter wear, or a lower price |
| Galaxy Watch8 Classic | 46mm, 63.5g | 445mAh | Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE | $499.99 Bluetooth/Wi-Fi; $549.99 LTE | Everyday use with tactile controls and better battery results than the standard Watch8 in independent tests |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) | 47mm class; weight not stated in the cited sources | Not stated in the cited sources | LTE in Samsung’s U.S. MSRP listing | $649.99 | Rugged outdoor use and buyers prioritizing endurance and durability |

Why I’d pick the Watch8 Classic
The bezel makes everyday navigation easier
The Classic’s rotating bezel is its most useful distinction. Instead of swiping repeatedly across the screen, you can turn the physical ring to move through menus and notifications. That tactile control is especially appealing during workouts or when your fingers are wet, and it gives you a precise alternative to touchscreen-only navigation. If you mostly glance at alerts, tap a tile, or use voice commands, you may not care enough to pay extra for it.

It adds a quick-action button and a more traditional look
The Classic also has a customizable action button for quickly launching a workout or another chosen action. Its conventional watch appearance is more versatile for day-to-day wear than the Ultra’s visibly rugged design. These are practical differences, not a separate software tier: the Classic shares the lineup’s One UI 8 Watch, Wear OS 6, Gemini experience, display brightness, and core health platform.
The battery advantage comes with extra bulk
The 46mm Classic has a 445mAh battery, compared with 435mAh in the 44mm Watch8 and 325mAh in the 40mm version. Independent reviewers also found the Classic lasted longer than the standard model, although results vary with settings and use. The trade-off is substantial: at 63.5g, it weighs more than twice as much as the 40mm Watch8. Consider how it feels on your wrist, especially if you plan to wear a watch overnight for sleep tracking.
When the standard Galaxy Watch8 is a better buy
Choose 40mm for a smaller wrist
The 40mm Watch8 weighs 30g and is the best fit-first choice if a large watch feels awkward or intrusive. Its smaller battery, however, gives you less headroom than the 44mm or Classic. It is a better choice for comfort and fit than for maximizing time between charges.
Choose 44mm for a lighter everyday watch
For many adults who do not need the bezel, the 44mm Watch8 is the strongest value option. At 34g, it is far lighter than the Classic, while its 435mAh battery is larger than the 40mm model’s. Its U.S. Bluetooth/Wi-Fi MSRP is $379.99, or $120 below the Classic’s Bluetooth/Wi-Fi MSRP in Samsung’s June 2026 price sheet.

The standard Watch8 keeps the family’s central software and health experience, including the bright display and new wellness features. What you give up is the rotating bezel, the Classic’s action button, and the better battery results reported for the Classic. The standard model is also the better fit if you prefer a simpler, sportier design.
Who should pay more for the Galaxy Watch Ultra?
Buy the 2025 Ultra if your watch has to withstand demanding outdoor use, or if you specifically want its adventure-oriented features. It uses a titanium case and adds 10ATM water resistance, dual-frequency GPS, a siren, triathlon features, and functional threshold power for cycling. It also includes LTE in Samsung’s U.S. MSRP listing. Those features can matter for hikers and endurance athletes, but they are unnecessary for many people buying a watch mainly for notifications, sleep, payments, and casual workouts.
At $649.99 U.S. MSRP, it costs $150 more than the Classic Bluetooth/Wi-Fi model, and it lacks the Classic’s rotating bezel. The 2025 version is a refresh of the 2024 Ultra, not a wholly new Watch8-generation design; its changes mainly include a Titanium Blue option and increased storage. Its size and rugged styling are also less versatile for buyers who want a conventional everyday watch. Pick it for the hardware and outdoor features, not simply because it sits at the top of the price range.
What battery life can you realistically expect?
Samsung’s estimates are not a promise of daily use
Samsung’s stated Watch8-family figures are approximately 40 hours with the always-on display off and 30 hours with it on. The company’s battery capacities are 325mAh for the 40mm Watch8, 435mAh for the 44mm, and 445mAh for the Classic. Treat the hour figures as estimates, not a guarantee that every model or user will get that much runtime.

Independent tests show meaningful variation
Tom’s Guide reported about 30 hours with the always-on display enabled on the standard Watch8. In its testing, the Classic reached about 40 hours with always-on display enabled and more than 50 hours with it disabled; the reviewer also measured a charge from zero to 52% in 29 minutes and to full in 90 minutes. WIRED reported substantially worse results on a 40mm test unit, including one instance in which a watch at 20% battery died roughly an hour later, while its reviewer found the larger Classic lasted close to two days. Those are individual review results, not a controlled comparison or a battery guarantee.
Always-on display, LTE, GPS use, workouts, sleep tracking, screen brightness, and other settings can all affect how often you need to charge. If you keep the display on and track activity or sleep, plan for frequent charging; the Classic is the safer pick in this lineup for battery-conscious buyers, but its results do not make it a dependable multiday watch. What’s new in the 2025 lineup?
The Watch8 family brings a cushion-shaped case design, an Exynos W1000 five-core 3nm processor, up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness, and One UI 8 Watch built on Wear OS 6. Gemini replaces Google Assistant on the watch. Samsung also added health and training features, while the Classic brings back a rotating bezel and adds its action button. The Ultra is a refreshed version of the prior year’s model rather than a new design generation.
Health and coaching features are useful, but not diagnoses
- Sleep guidance: uses tracked sleep history to offer bedtime guidance. Whether you find it useful depends on consistently wearing the watch at night.
- Running Coach: offers personalized training plans and workout guidance.
- Cardiovascular Load: adds cardiovascular-related insights to the watch’s health platform; treat these as consumer wellness information, not a medical diagnosis.
- Antioxidant Index: presents an index or estimate. It should not be read as a clinical measurement of antioxidant levels.
Feature availability and requirements can depend on region, compatible devices, software, and the data needed to establish a baseline. For example, sleep guidance relies on tracked sleep history; do not assume every health feature is available to every buyer or works identically in every country.

Should Watch7 or Watch6 Classic owners upgrade?
Watch7 owners: usually keep your current watch
The standard Watch8 is a relatively modest practical upgrade from the Watch7. Tom’s Guide found its battery life broadly similar—about 30 hours with always-on display enabled—and described the main gains as the brighter screen, Gemini, wellness features, and redesigned case. If your Watch7 is working well, upgrade only if one of those changes is important to you or a deal makes the switch worthwhile. Tom’s Guide’s Galaxy Watch8 review.
Watch6 Classic owners: upgrade for specific improvements
The rotating bezel is not new to a Watch6 Classic owner. Consider upgrading if you want the newer processor, brighter display, updated health features, or a change in battery experience; do not upgrade just to get a Classic model with a bezel.
Watch5 owners and first-time buyers: the case is stronger
Coming from a Watch5 or older, a basic fitness tracker, or no smartwatch, you have a clearer reason to consider the 2025 models. Even then, an older Galaxy Watch at a substantial discount can be better value if you do not need Gemini or the newer health features.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE?
For most buyers, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi is the right configuration: it costs less and is suited to people who keep their phone nearby. In Samsung’s June 2026 U.S. price sheet, LTE adds $50 to either size of standard Watch8 and to the Classic. The Ultra’s listed U.S. configuration includes LTE.

LTE is useful if you often run, cycle, or exercise without your phone and still want calls, messages, or independently streamed music. The watch’s ability to stay connected depends on compatible carrier support, a suitable wearable plan, activation requirements, and coverage. The hardware premium is not the whole cost; check your carrier’s plan and account requirements before buying.
Check fit, bands, and phone compatibility before ordering
Try the Classic on if possible
The Classic’s 46mm case and 63.5g weight are central buying considerations, not small trade-offs. A watch that feels uncomfortable during sleep or daily wear can undermine the features you paid for. If you cannot try it first, check the seller’s return policy before purchase.
Check band compatibility before buying extras
The Watch8 family uses Samsung’s Dynamic Lug attachment system. WIRED describes it as a slide-and-click proprietary system rather than the small-pin attachment used by many traditional watch bands. Before choosing a color or ordering replacements, check band availability, price, and third-party compatibility; do not assume a conventional band will fit.
Verify phone and regional requirements for the features you need
Compatibility is not just a question of whether the watch can pair with a phone. Confirm Samsung’s current requirements for your phone’s Android version, the features you intend to use, and the country where you live—particularly for health functions such as ECG or blood-pressure monitoring. The cited sources do not establish a complete current compatibility matrix, so check Samsung’s support information for your region before purchase rather than assuming every feature works on every Android phone. Also verify LTE support with your carrier if you are considering a cellular model.
