Samsung’s 2025 Galaxy Watch8 lineup has three distinct options: the Watch8 for everyday wellness, the Watch8 Classic with a rotating bezel and quick button, and the outdoor-oriented Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025). The main changes are a thinner Watch8 design, new wellness features, Gemini built in at launch, and more storage for the Ultra. This is a guide to Samsung’s announced specifications and claims, not a hands-on review.
What’s new in the Galaxy Watch8 lineup?
Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch8 family on July 9, 2025. All three watches launched with Wear OS 6 and One UI 8 Watch, and Samsung described the series as its first smartwatch lineup to ship with Gemini available out of the box. Actual feature availability depends on market, model, carrier and paired phone.
Samsung says it reengineered the Watch8’s internal structure, improving component-mounting capability by 30% and making the design 11% thinner than previous Galaxy Watches. It also claims a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, 50% higher than on previous Galaxy Watches. These are Samsung’s comparisons, not independent measurements. The series uses an Exynos W1000 five-core 3 nm processor, 2 GB of memory and 32 GB of storage in the Watch8; the Classic has 64 GB.

The prices are historical Japan launch-era online shop prices, not current quotes. Samsung’s global specification table describes Watch8-series connectivity options; available radio configurations can differ by size and region, so check the exact local SKU before buying. Samsung says the Ultra has the longest battery life in the Galaxy Watch lineup, but the announcement provides no independently established real-world runtime figure. Battery capacity figures above are not runtime estimates. Samsung’s global announcement and Samsung Japan’s July 9, 2025 announcement provide the specifications and launch details.

How do the design and controls differ?
Galaxy Watch8: slimmer shape and a choice of two sizes
The Watch8 uses a redesigned cushion profile and Dynamic Lug system. Samsung’s claimed thinner construction is the clearest design change; choose between 40 mm and 44 mm based on preferred case size and display dimensions. Listed weights are without bands, so they do not represent the watch as worn.
Galaxy Watch8 Classic: the rotating bezel returns
The Classic is the option for people who want a physical rotating bezel rather than a screen-only interaction, along with a quick button. Its 46 mm case and 63.5 g weight without a band make it a substantially larger and heavier proposition than either Watch8 size.

Galaxy Watch Ultra: built around an outdoor role
Samsung gives the 2025 Ultra a 47 mm LTE configuration in Japan, titanium case color options and 64 GB of storage. Samsung Japan said the storage is double that of the prior Ultra. Samsung’s claim that it is the lineup’s most durable model is its product positioning, not an independent durability comparison.
What software and wellness features are included?

Health information from the watch is not medical advice; consult a physician about health concerns. Feature access can vary by market, device and phone.

For Japan only, Samsung says the Watch8, Watch8 Classic and Watch Ultra (2025) support FeliCa. The relevant service app must be downloaded and configured first, and the tap orientation differs by model. This Japan-market detail should not be assumed for watches sold elsewhere. Samsung listed general availability in select markets from July 25, 2025; Samsung Japan said sales began August 1, 2025 through Amazon Japan and other retailers. Those are launch dates, not evidence of current stock or pricing.

When should you choose each model?
- Choose Watch8 if you want the everyday-wellness model and prefer a smaller 40 mm or larger 44 mm case.
- Choose Watch8 Classic if a rotating bezel and quick button are important to how you interact with a watch, and you are comfortable with a 46 mm case.
- Choose Watch Ultra (2025) if the larger 47 mm LTE model, titanium colors, outdoor positioning or 64 GB storage best match your priorities.
Samsung’s lineup announcement describes those roles and specifications, but it does not establish an independent winner for comfort, battery endurance, durability or health accuracy.
