If a screenless fitness band is not syncing, the usual fault is in the transfer chain between the band, your phone’s Bluetooth connection, the companion app, and the app’s internet upload. Keep the band close and charged, verify Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or cellular data, permissions, and background access, then run the app’s manual sync command. Restarting, updating, and re-pairing normally come before reinstalling. Do not factory-reset until the latest records have synchronized or been exported, because unsynchronized activity can be lost.
How does a screenless fitness band sync data?
A screenless band normally records steps, sleep, heart rate, and other measurements in its own memory. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) transfers those records to the phone; the companion app then displays them and may upload them to a cloud account. Google describes syncing as transferring data collected by a device to a Google Health account, while WHOOP describes BLE as the path from its strap to a mobile phone.

That chain creates several different failure patterns:
| What you see | Most likely part of the chain to check |
|---|---|
| No device connection at all | Distance, charge, Bluetooth, permissions, pairing, or a disabled background process |
| Steps update but sleep or heart-rate records do not | Wear fit, off-body detection, incomplete transfer, or a feature-specific recording issue |
| Data appears hours later | Background restrictions, power-saving mode, time spent out of range, or a delayed cloud upload |
| Notifications fail while activity syncs | Notification permission or a separate notification connection; the activity link may still be healthy |
Identify which pattern you have before changing settings. A partial or delayed sync needs a different fix from a band that never appears in the app.

What should I check first when the band will not sync?
Open the companion app with the band beside the phone and establish exactly what failed. Look for a last-sync time, connection indicator, or sync animation, and note whether the failure is total, partial, delayed, or limited to notifications.
- Check the last recorded time. A stale timestamp confirms that the app has not received recent records, even if the phone’s Bluetooth screen says the devices are connected.
- Check the band and charger. Charge the band fully enough to test, and charge any required charging puck or battery pack. A depleted band cannot transfer data.
- Wear it correctly. For missing physiological data, make sure the band is snug and touching skin. WHOOP identifies loose fit and off-body detection as causes of missing records.
- Keep the phone nearby. WHOOP recommends staying within 30 feet for best Bluetooth results.
- Confirm a network path. Turn on Wi-Fi or cellular data so the app can complete any cloud upload after the local Bluetooth transfer.
After these checks, leave the app open for a minute and see whether the timestamp or activity totals change. That quick observation tells you whether to concentrate on radios, app permissions, or account upload.

How do distance, charge, and wearing position affect synchronization?
BLE is a short-range connection. Move the phone and band into the same room, remove obstacles where practical, and avoid testing while the phone remains in a bag or another room. The 30-foot guidance is a best-results recommendation, not a guaranteed maximum; walls, interference, and the phone model can reduce usable range.
Charge both sides of the connection
Put the band on its charger and, if applicable, charge the band’s charging case or battery pack. Retry while the band has a stable charge. Power-saving behavior can stop background transfers even when the band still shows some battery.
Check contact with skin for missing records
A screenless band may continue counting movement while failing to produce reliable sleep or heart-rate records if it is loose or removed. Refit it securely, then allow a new recording period before judging those features. Existing gaps cannot be recreated by a later sync; synchronization only transfers data the band actually stored.
How do I fix Bluetooth, network, and permission problems?
Start with the phone radios and permissions rather than deleting the device. A Bluetooth connection alone does not guarantee that the companion app is allowed to read the band or upload data.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteReset the Bluetooth radio
- Turn Bluetooth off in the phone’s quick settings or Settings app.
- Wait several seconds.
- Turn Bluetooth back on, open the companion app, and retry its sync control.
Keep the band close while doing this. If the phone is in airplane mode, disable airplane mode before testing; WHOOP lists airplane mode among causes of delayed or missing data.
Restore Android permissions
On Android, allow the companion app’s Location and Nearby devices permissions when requested. Google’s troubleshooting guidance specifically calls out both permissions for tracker synchronization. Menu names vary by Android release, but they are normally under Settings, Apps, the companion app, and Permissions.
Allow an internet connection
Enable Wi-Fi or cellular data. BLE moves records from the band to the phone; the app may still need internet access to upload them to an account or finish processing. If local activity appears but the account remains stale, test the network separately by opening another service on the phone.
Temporarily disable restrictive modes
Turn off Battery Saver and Bedtime mode while troubleshooting. Google says these modes can limit background data connectivity. Re-enable them after a successful test and then add the companion app to any phone-specific unrestricted or allowed-background list if the problem returns.

Keep the companion app running in the background during testing and do not swipe it away from the recent-apps view. WHOOP says its app must remain open in the background for transfer, and Xiaomi says Mi Fitness must continue running to maintain Bluetooth, message, and data synchronization.
Check battery-management controls
Open the phone’s battery settings for the companion app and choose the least restrictive option available, such as unrestricted or allow background activity. The exact label differs by Android manufacturer. Also check any automatic sleep, cleanup, or “deep sleeping apps” list and remove the companion app while diagnosing.
Keep the app signed in
If the app has signed you out, local Bluetooth may connect but cloud records will not update. Sign in again, accept requested permissions, and leave the app open long enough to complete one manual sync.
How do I force a sync and restart the devices?
Use the companion app’s own sync command first; pairing from the phone’s Bluetooth page is not a substitute for an in-app synchronization.
- Google Health or Fitbit: open Connections and choose Sync.
- WHOOP: open Device Settings and choose Sync Now.
- Xiaomi Smart Band: close and reopen Mi Fitness, then retry its synchronization control.
- Other brands: look for Sync, Refresh, Pull to refresh, or a device page with a sync icon.
If the command does nothing, restart the phone and the band, reopen the app, and issue the command again. A restart clears a stuck radio session without deleting stored band records.
Should I update the phone, app, firmware, and battery pack?
Yes. Install pending updates for the phone operating system, companion app, band firmware, and any firmware-managed battery pack before deeper recovery. Google, WHOOP, and Xiaomi all include software updates in their synchronization guidance.
Keep the band charged and near the phone during a firmware update. Do not interrupt an update by force-closing the app or moving out of Bluetooth range. Afterward, open the app and perform a manual sync; an update is not proof that older unsynchronized data has already transferred.
How do I clear a stale pairing and reconnect correctly?
Use a clean unpair-and-repair sequence when toggling Bluetooth and restarting have not helped. Remove the old relationship in both places, then let the companion app create the new one.

- Toggle Bluetooth off and on, then restart the phone if the old entry remains.
- Open the companion app and choose Add device, Pair, or its equivalent.
- Approve the operating-system pairing request and every required permission.
- Run an in-app sync and check the resulting timestamp or activity totals.
Do not pair only from the system Bluetooth screen. Google, WHOOP, and Xiaomi document reconnecting through the companion app because the app needs to establish its own device relationship and data channel.
When should I reinstall the companion app?
Reinstall only after a restart, software update, and clean re-pair have failed. Reinstallation can clear corrupted app state, but it also requires signing in again and restoring permissions.
- Confirm that the latest records have synchronized or that you have exported any records the app allows you to save.
- Remove the device from the app and forget it in the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
- Uninstall the companion app, restart the phone, and install the current version from the official app store.
- Sign in, grant Location, Nearby devices, Bluetooth, notification, and background permissions as requested.
- Add the band from inside the app and perform a manual sync.
Google and WHOOP list reinstalling as a later recovery step rather than the first response to a temporary Bluetooth failure.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can I factory-reset a band that is not syncing?
Treat a factory reset as the last resort. A reset can erase records that have not reached the phone or account, and Xiaomi explicitly warns that unsynchronized band data may be lost after a factory restore.

- Keep the band charged and near the phone.
- Open the companion app, reconnect if possible, and run its manual sync.
- Confirm a new last-sync timestamp or visibly updated activity.
- Export or otherwise save available records if the app offers that function.
- Only then follow the manufacturer’s reset procedure and pair the band again.
If the band is disconnected, Xiaomi says Mi Fitness cannot update steps, sleep, or heart-rate data. Resetting in that state removes your best chance of recovering those unsynchronized records.
How do I verify that synchronization is fixed?
Verification requires a fresh event, not merely a connected icon. With the band nearby, generate a small amount of activity, open the app, run a manual sync, and check whether the activity total or last-sync time changes.
- Google Health: check the Last synced when indicator.
- Garmin Connect: a green connection dot and sync animation indicate an active synchronization process; updated steps or activities provide the outcome check.
- Other apps: look for a new timestamp, current step count, or a newly completed activity upload.
Test sleep and heart-rate records separately because they depend on correct wear and sensor recording. A successful step transfer does not prove that every sensor data type was captured.
What are the platform-specific fixes for Google, WHOOP, Xiaomi, and Garmin bands?
Google Health and Fitbit trackers
These trackers use BLE and normally sync automatically when nearby. Check proximity, charge, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or cellular service, Location and Nearby devices permissions, and Battery Saver or Bedtime mode. Use Connections > Sync; if that fails, restart, forget and reconnect through the app, update software, and only then consider reinstalling.
WHOOP
WHOOP’s documented controls include Bluetooth toggling, Device Settings > Sync Now, forgetting and re-pairing, and firmware updates. Its troubleshooting guidance also identifies background restrictions, out-of-range time, airplane mode, power-saving settings, battery depletion, and off-body detection as reasons data may be delayed or absent. Keep the app running in the background while the strap is within the recommended range.
Xiaomi Smart Band
Mi Fitness is required for synchronization and firmware updates. Keep it running in the background, grant required location access, close and reopen the app, toggle Bluetooth, forget the band, and reconnect from Mi Fitness. Do not restore factory settings until a successful sync or export protects your records.
Garmin CIRQA
Garmin’s support catalog identifies CIRQA as a screenless smart band supported through Garmin Connect. In that app, an internet connection, Bluetooth enabled on both devices, a green status dot, and a sync animation are practical indicators to watch while updated steps or activities confirm completion.
When is replacing the band more sensible than troubleshooting?
Replacement becomes reasonable when the same failure returns after clean re-pairing and current software, when the band cannot hold a charge, or when its app no longer supports the phone. Compare the ecosystem and recovery behavior before buying another screenless tracker.

| Decision factor | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Companion-app reliability | Does the app remain connected when background restrictions are enabled, and does it explain a failed transfer? |
| Sync visibility | Is there a clear last-sync timestamp, connection dot, or animation? |
| Recovery controls | Can you trigger a manual sync and re-pair without navigating separate undocumented menus? |
| Power design | How often must the band and its charger or battery pack be charged, and what happens when power is low? |
| Data retention | Does the manufacturer explain what remains on the band during disconnection and what a reset deletes? |
| Ecosystem fit | Will you use Garmin Connect, WHOOP, Google Health, or Mi Fitness, and does that ecosystem support the phone you own? |
A band that records accurately but hides sync status can take longer to diagnose than one with a visible timestamp and a reliable manual-sync command. Prioritize transparent recovery controls if missed data has practical consequences.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a screenless fitness band sync without internet access?
Bluetooth can transfer records from the band to the phone without Wi-Fi or cellular service. Internet access is still needed when the companion app must upload those records to a cloud account, so local data may appear before the account updates.
Why do my steps update while sleep data is missing?
Step counting can continue during movement even when the band is loose or detects that it is off your body. Sleep and heart-rate features depend more heavily on continuous skin contact and sensor recording, so check fit and look for a new recording period before assuming the Bluetooth link is defective.
Does pairing from the phone’s Bluetooth menu fix synchronization?
It may create a radio-level connection, but many bands still require the companion app to complete device registration and data transfer. Forget the system pairing and add the band from inside the app when troubleshooting.
How long will unsynced data remain on a band?
Retention varies by device and is not a universal BLE feature. Treat the band’s memory as temporary: synchronize or export records promptly, and verify a current timestamp before resetting or replacing the device.
