The Seiko Prospex Alpinist SPB199J1, known as “Mountain Glacier,” was announced on 16 October 2020 and became available in November. Seiko positioned it as a European-market limited edition, while also naming Israel, Turkey and South Africa as additional markets. Production was limited to 2,020 watches worldwide. Its defining feature is an emerald-green dial inspired by mountain lakes in glacier landscapes, paired originally with a dark-green leather strap and an extra light-brown nylon strap. Seiko’s 2020 announcement gives a launch recommended retail price of €880 including VAT; that historical price does not establish current availability or value.
What the SPB199J1 release was
SPB199J1 is a Prospex Alpinist limited edition also called Mountain Glacier. Seiko’s German launch announcement, dated 16 October 2020, said the model would join the collection from November. Although it described the watch as made especially for the European market, Seiko also explicitly named Israel, Turkey and South Africa as markets outside Europe. The official Italian product page confirms the Mountain Glacier name, November 2020 availability and the same additional markets.
The edition was limited to 2,020 pieces worldwide—not 2,020 per market. Seiko said each watch’s individual serial number is engraved in the surround of its screw-down exhibition caseback.
Dial, straps and original presentation
Seiko described the emerald-green dial as evoking mountain lakes in glacier landscapes. That is the maker’s design inspiration, rather than an independent description of the watch’s origin. The original release package included a dark-green leather strap with a safety push-button folding clasp, an additional light-brown nylon strap and a special gift box. The official product page also confirms the extra nylon strap.

Specifications in the table come from Seiko’s release announcement and official product page, except where Fratello is named. The case measurements do not agree: Seiko lists 40.0 mm by 12.0 mm, while Fratello’s 2020 release coverage gives 39.5 mm by 13.2 mm. The available sources do not resolve that discrepancy, so neither set should be treated as an agreed measurement. Fratello is also the source for the 20 mm lug width; check the individual watch’s fit and clasp compatibility before ordering a replacement strap.
