The two references identify the same collaboration for different markets, not competing editions. Its blue, red, white and gold design reflects Seiko’s Serbia-and-Japan theme, while the 5X53 movement adds GPS time and time-zone adjustment, world time and a quick home/local-time switch.
What are SSH045 and SBXC045?
Seiko introduced the Astron GPS Solar Novak Djokovic 2020 Limited Edition as SSH045 internationally and SBXC045 in Japan. The model celebrated Seiko’s partnership with Djokovic, which the company said began in 2014. It was limited to 1,500 pieces worldwide. Seiko’s January 2020 announcements establish the original model identity and specifications, but do not establish current stock or resale value.

Each watch’s case back is marked with Djokovic’s signature, “Limited Edition” and an individual number in the 1,500-watch run. These details can help identify a listing, but the markings alone do not establish a particular watch’s authenticity or condition.
How does the design connect Serbia and Japan?
Seiko described the blue base with red and white accents as a meeting of the Serbian and Japanese flag colors. Red marks the UTC indicator positions for Serbia (+1) and Japan (+9). Gold accents on the home-time subdial represent Djokovic’s achievements, according to Seiko.

What does the 5X53 movement do?
The Caliber 5X53 is a GPS Solar Dual-Time movement. Seiko says it can connect to the GPS network up to twice daily under its stated sunlight and charging conditions. Its travel-oriented functions include:
- GPS-controlled time and time-zone adjustment.
- Home and local time transfer by button operation. Seiko’s international announcement says the wearer can change the main time display between home and local time instantly.
- World time covering 39 time zones.
- Automatic daylight-saving-time adjustment after a successful time-zone adjustment.
- A perpetual calendar through February 28, 2100, and a power-save function.
Seiko specifies accuracy of ±15 seconds per month when the watch does not receive a GPS signal and is between 5°C and 35°C. That is the manufacturer’s stated condition-specific specification, not an independent measurement.
In its Japanese announcement, Seiko compared the hand movement for a Tokyo-to-New York time-zone change—a 14-hour difference—at 3 seconds for the 5X series versus 34 seconds for the earlier 8X series. This is Seiko’s comparison, not independent timing data. The same announcement notes that GPS time-zone and daylight-saving information may need manual adjustment if regional rules change after the watch’s data was set.

How to assess an SSH045 or SBXC045 listing
Because the two references are market names for the same model, a difference in reference label alone does not mean a listing is a different edition. When assessing a particular watch, consider:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Whether the reference and serial-numbered case back match the claimed limited edition.
- The watch’s condition and any available service history.
- Whether the original box, Djokovic message card and extra silicone strap are included.
- The seller’s reputation and the asking price, assessed against current comparable listings rather than the 2020 launch prices.
Seiko’s Astron 5X stainless-steel collection also includes SSH019, SSH021, SSH024 and the separate 50th-anniversary SSH023. The Djokovic collaboration is the 2020 SSH045/SBXC045; it should not be confused with SSH023 simply because both belong to the 5X Astron family and are limited editions. Seiko’s Astron 5X stainless-steel collection page provides broader collection context.
