The Seiko Presage Classic Series SPB521, SPB523 and SPB524 share a 36 mm case, the 6R51 automatic movement and a textile-inspired dial design; their main differences are dial color and US list price. Seiko lists the SPB521 and SPB523 at $950 each and the SPB524 at $1,000. The official product pages label all three “Men’s/Women’s,” so choosing one is a matter of fit and preference, not a gender-exclusive case size.
How the three references differ
Seiko’s US lineup presents these as three color options in the Presage Classic Series. The brand connects each shade to a Japanese color or dyeing tradition; the descriptions below are Seiko’s, not an assessment of how the dials look in person.

What Seiko says about the design
Seiko frames the Classic Series around colors, materials and textures drawn from traditional Japanese crafts. Its Classic Series description says the collection expresses “the soft and gentle side of Japanese design.”

The brand describes the dials as curved and richly textured, evoking natural textiles. It also calls out curved index tops and hands that bend gently toward the markers. The multi-row bracelet, according to Seiko, takes inspiration from the 1970s; the company says its short, ergonomically shaped links reduce contact points around the wrist. These are design descriptions, not independent findings about legibility, comfort or finishing.
Shared dimensions and movement
All three references are listed with a 36.0 mm diameter, 41.4 mm lug-to-lug length and 12.5 mm thickness. Each uses Seiko’s 6R51 automatic movement, which can also be wound manually. Seiko specifies approximately 72 hours of power reserve and a precision range of +25 to -15 seconds per day. That range is the manufacturer’s specification, not an accuracy measurement from this review.
| Specification | Seiko-listed value |
|---|---|
| Movement | Caliber 6R51; automatic with manual winding |
| Power reserve | Approximately 72 hours |
| Precision | +25 to -15 seconds per day, manufacturer-stated |
| Diameter | 36.0 mm |
| Lug-to-lug | 41.4 mm |
| Thickness | 12.5 mm |
Seiko’s official specifications also list 24 jewels, a stop-second function and 18 mm between the lugs. The SPB524 page specifies a stainless steel case, dual-curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inner surface, a deployment clasp with push-button release, a 195.0 mm bracelet length, 10 bar water resistance, 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance, 118.0 g weight and a see-through screw case back. For the SPB521 and SPB523, Seiko specifies a super-hard coating on the stainless steel case. Review the individual product pages for the full specification of the exact reference: SPB521, SPB523 and SPB524.
The 10 bar rating is Seiko’s published water-resistance specification; it does not by itself establish what activities Seiko recommends. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance for water exposure. The 18 mm lug spacing is useful when considering another strap, but width alone does not establish that a particular strap will attach correctly or fit the case cleanly.

Seiko labels the watches “Men’s/Women’s,” rather than limiting them to one gender. A 36 mm diameter and 41.4 mm lug-to-lug measurement give a more useful starting point for fit than a gender label, but those numbers cannot guarantee how the watch will sit on an individual wrist. If possible, compare the lug-to-lug span and thickness with a watch you already find comfortable, or try the watch on before deciding.
Which reference should you choose?
- Choose SPB521 if Seiko’s light-indigo Aijiro description is the color direction you prefer and you want the lower listed price shared with SPB523.
- Choose SPB523 if the muted-brown Fushi-iro description is more appealing; its US list price is also USD 950.
- Choose SPB524 if you prefer Seiko’s unbleached-fabric Shiro-iro description and are comfortable with its USD 1,000 US list price.
Because the core dimensions and movement are shared, the decision supported by Seiko’s listings is chiefly color and price. The available specifications do not establish which dial is easiest to read, which bracelet feels best, or how accurately an individual watch will run in daily use.
