Choose the SRPE33 for the Samurai case, date-only display and longer lug-to-lug measurement; choose the SRPE39 for the Turtle case, day-date display and wider but shorter proportions. Both use automatic movements with manual winding and have an approximately 41-hour power reserve.
SRPE33 vs. SRPE39: specifications
These figures come from Seiko’s regional product pages: the SRPE33 page is published for the UK market and the SRPE39 page for Poland. They are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.

Which one is likely to fit better?
The SRPE39 has the larger listed diameter, 45.0 mm versus 43.8 mm, but its 47.7 mm lug-to-lug is 1.0 mm shorter than the SRPE33’s 48.7 mm. The SRPE39 is also 0.4 mm thicker. Diameter alone therefore does not tell the whole fit story: the Turtle is broader across its case, while the Samurai extends farther between the lugs.
#1 Best Overall
- WATER-RESISTANT: these water-resistant men's dive watches are ISO scuba-approved to depths of 200 meters
- AUTOMATIC: these self-winding, automatic men's watches are powered by your movement, with a power reserve of 41 hours
- STAINLESS STEEL: features a durable 43.8mm stainless steel watch case and bracelet.
- LUMIBRITE DISPLAY: this men's automatic watch features a highly-legible display with LumiBrite hands and markers
- 4R35 CALIBER: equipped with the reliable caliber 4R35 automatic movement, this accurate men's watch keeps precise time
The SRPE33 weighs 205 g and the SRPE39 198 g according to Seiko. Wrist shape, bracelet adjustment and personal tolerance affect how either watch feels, so try the particular watch on if possible rather than choosing by diameter alone.
What the case shapes change
The 2020 Fratello comparison identifies the SRPE33 as a King Samurai and the SRPE39 as a King Turtle. They are not simply the same watch in different sizes: their case outlines, hands, markers and bracelet designs differ. Fratello reviewer Rob Nudds described the Turtle’s relatively “lugless” shape as wearing more compactly than its dimensions might suggest. That is his dated, subjective wearing impression, not a guarantee of fit for every wrist.

Movement and calendar: date or day-date
The SRPE33 uses Seiko’s 4R35 automatic movement with manual winding and a date display. The SRPE39 uses the 4R36, also automatic with manual winding, and adds a day display alongside the date. Seiko lists 23 jewels for the 4R35 and 24 for the 4R36; both product pages give an approximately 41-hour power reserve.
In practical terms, the choice is whether you want the simpler date window or prefer seeing the day of the week as well. The specifications do not establish a meaningful power-reserve advantage for either model.

Shared dive-watch specification and dial
Both references are listed by Seiko as 200 m / 660 ft diver’s watches. Each has a unidirectional bezel, screw-down crown, screw case back, sapphire crystal with an inner-surface anti-reflective coating and 22 mm lug width. Seiko USA describes the SRPE33 as following ISO standards for scuba diving; that is a manufacturer statement specifically about the SRPE33, and should not be treated as a separately verified claim about the SRPE39.
The shared visual link is the blue Save the Ocean Special Edition dial with a manta-ray motif. The case and dial furniture still give each watch its own character, so deciding between them is as much about which design you prefer as it is about the calendar or dimensions.

Bracelet or strap options
Both watches have a 22 mm lug width, which gives you the option of exploring other straps. Nudds wrote that he moved his SRPE33 to a ZULU strap and encouraged experimenting with straps. NATO, ZULU or rubber are possible style directions, but confirm that a specific strap and its attachment hardware fit the watch; no alternative strap is established here as included with either model.
What the hands-on review adds—and what it cannot settle
Rob Nudds’s Fratello review, published November 5, 2020, offers an individual owner’s perspective rather than a current test of every example. He said he bought the SRPE33 and wore it often, praised its dial, and described changing it to a ZULU strap. Those comments can help convey one wearer’s experience, but they are subjective and do not predict how the watch will suit every buyer.

This is a caution from his review, not evidence that all examples have a bezel defect. The review’s launch-era prices are historical; current prices and stock are not established by these sources. Quick Recap
Which Seiko should you choose?
- Choose the SRPE33 if you prefer the Samurai case, date-only display or its longer 48.7 mm lug-to-lug measurement.
- Choose the SRPE39 if you prefer the Turtle case, want a day-date display or favor its shorter 47.7 mm lug-to-lug despite its wider 45.0 mm diameter.
- Either can make sense if your priorities are the shared manta-ray Save the Ocean look, 200 m diver’s rating, sapphire crystal and approximately 41-hour reserve.
