The Seiko Prospex SPB411J1 brings back design cues from the 1968 Navigator Timer in a modern automatic GMT watch. Seiko specifies a 38.5 mm case, a 72-hour power reserve and 10 bar water resistance; the GMT hand and rotating 24-hour bezel provide a practical way to read times across three locations. The available sources establish its launch specifications, not its current stock, price or measured accuracy.
What the SPB411 re-creates
Seiko describes the SPB411 as a re-creation of its 1968 Navigator Timer, which Seiko says was its first GMT watch with a rotating bezel. The historical connection is expressed through specific details rather than a claim that the modern watch duplicates every aspect of the original: Seiko points to the logo treatment, GMT, hour and minute hands, indexes, and a horseshoe-shaped caseback motif. The contemporary caseback also carries an individual serial number. Seiko Prospex / Seiko Philippines Official Store outlined these cues in its October 3, 2023 announcement.
Independent launch coverage identifies the model as SPB411J1 and describes its gray sunburst dial, applied indices, LumiBrite and date window. Fratello’s launch article is a useful additional source for those dial and bracelet details; the defining historical link is Seiko’s own stated connection to the 1968 model.
How the GMT hand and bezel work
The SPB411 uses Seiko’s 6R54 automatic movement, which Seiko specifies as having a GMT function. Its extra hand makes one turn over 24 hours and is adjusted independently, while the bezel carries a rotating 24-hour scale. Seiko says the hand and bezel can be used together to display the time in three places. That is Seiko’s description of the user-facing operation; it does not mean the watch has three separate hour hands or three independent timekeeping mechanisms.

In practical use, the regular hour and minute hands show the local time. The GMT hand indicates a second time against the 24-hour scale. Rotating the bezel changes the reference for reading that hand, allowing a wearer to track another location. Seiko’s launch release also specifies automatic winding with manual winding, 24 jewels and a 72-hour power reserve. Fratello reports a quick-set date and a beat rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour; those details are from its launch coverage rather than the cited official specification list.
Case dimensions, materials and wearing fit
Seiko’s launch specifications give the stainless-steel case a 38.5 mm diameter and 12.6 mm thickness. The case and bracelet have a super-hard coating; the crystal is box-shaped sapphire with anti-reflective coating on its inner surface. Seiko lists a screw caseback and 10 bar water resistance. Seiko Boutique Ireland independently lists the same case width, depth, water resistance and 6R54 caliber.

For fit context beyond the official case dimensions, Fratello reports a 45.2 mm lug-to-lug measurement and 19 mm lug spacing. It describes the bracelet as a five-row steel design with a push-button folding clasp. These are publication-reported dimensions and details, not measurements taken for this article. Lug-to-lug length can help assess how a watch may sit across the wrist, but wrist shape and personal preference matter; trying it on is the surest way to judge fit.

Seiko’s Danish regional release listed a recommended price of 13,295 DKK at launch. That is a Denmark-specific, launch-era figure, not a current price or a reliable basis for comparing costs in another market. Before buying, check that the listing is for SPB411J1, confirm whether the watch is new or pre-owned, review the seller and warranty terms, and verify the final price and availability directly with the seller.
No measured accuracy result for an individual SPB411 is established by the cited launch sources. Seiko’s published power reserve and movement specifications describe the caliber; they should not be mistaken for a timing test of a particular watch.
