Seiko’s Star Wars collaboration was a six-watch limited run from the Brightz line, announced by Seiko Watch Corporation on September 5, 2012, with a planned nationwide Japanese release on October 12, 2012. The combined run was 5,000 watches. The six models were Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Yoda, C-3PO, Stormtrooper and R2-D2, and they split between solar radio-controlled quartz and mechanical movements.

The six models at a glance

Because the six models share a collection name, the reference number is the reliable way to tell them apart. Searches such as “Seiko Brightz SDGC013 Yoda” or “Seiko Star Wars Stormtrooper SDGC011” return far more precise results than the collection name alone.

Movements: which watches are solar and which are mechanical
The announcement divides the collection into two technical groups. Darth Vader, Darth Maul and R2-D2 use solar radio-controlled quartz movements, which charge from light and synchronise their time by radio signal. Yoda, C-3PO and Stormtrooper are mechanical watches.
Solar radio-controlled quartz models
These three use quartz timekeeping, so their accuracy is set by the radio synchronisation rather than a mechanical regulating system. The announcement’s movement assignments do not include a per-model accuracy figure for these three, so none is given here.

Mechanical models
Yoda, C-3PO and Stormtrooper are the three mechanical watches in the set. Seiko lists the same case and movement specifications for all three, which makes them the only group in the collection that can be compared on common dimensions:
- Case diameter: 41.7 mm
- Case thickness: 12.4 mm
- Case back: screw-down, with a see-through caseback
- Caliber: 6R21, automatic with hand winding
- Jewels: 29
- Stated daily accuracy: +25 to −15 seconds
These specifications apply to Yoda (SDGC013), C-3PO (SDGC015) and Stormtrooper (SDGC011) only. They should not be applied to Darth Vader, Darth Maul or R2-D2.

Original prices and production quantities
The announcement gave original Japanese recommended prices between ¥126,000 and ¥141,750 across the collection. The per-model price allocation is not itemised in the source text used for this guide, so readers should treat the range as the only confirmed price data for the set. Each model had a production quantity of between 500 and 1,500 pieces, and the six models together totalled 5,000 watches.

Checking a watch you are considering today
Because the collection was produced in 2012 in limited numbers, any watch offered now is secondhand or remaining stock from a past release. Before buying, confirm the following:
- Match the reference number on the caseback or the paperwork to the table above. Confirm that the character and the movement type match the reference, since a listing title alone is not enough.
- For Yoda, C-3PO or Stormtrooper, check that the case size and movement described by the seller match the 41.7 mm, 12.4 mm and caliber 6R21 specifications above.
- For Darth Vader, Darth Maul or R2-D2, ask the seller for the reference number directly, because the 2012 announcement does not give a verifiable reference for Darth Maul.
- Ask for photographs of the caseback, dial, box and papers, and check that the serial or model markings are legible and consistent with the listing.
- Check the seller’s condition description and return policy before paying, and treat any claim about current price, rarity or availability as the seller’s own statement.
What this article can and cannot establish
