Tom Wambsgans wears an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph in the 2023 Succession series finale. It is the clearest watch statement of the show’s final episode: British GQ highlights it in the penultimate scene, when Shiv places her hand on Tom’s. Earlier watches tell a different story, from Greg’s apparent nonworking Rolex Submariner to Kendall’s Vacheron Constantin and Shiv’s Cartier Panthère.
One date distinction matters: the 2021 Time+Tide article that originally framed these as watches from the “finale” covered the season-three finale, not the series ending. The watches below span that episode and the show’s later seasons.

Tom Wambsgans: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph
In season four, Tom moves from a Cartier Santos to an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph, identified by British GQ’s finale coverage. The AP appears throughout the season, including the penultimate scene of the series finale.
GQ reads the upgrade as a visual marker of Tom’s changed status in Waystar’s hierarchy. That is the publication’s interpretation, not a confirmed explanation from the show’s writers. The watch’s prominence is especially striking in the finale’s quiet exchange between Tom and Shiv, where the shot puts the watch in view as she rests her hand on his.
#1 Best Overall
- DIVER-INSPIRED DESIGN: A black dial, bold luminous hour markers and hands, and a rotating timing bezel create a sporty, masculine look that pairs easily with casual, business-casual and weekend outfits
- STAINLESS STEEL BUILD: The 40mm stainless steel case and matching bracelet provide a substantial feel, while the sapphire crystal helps resist everyday scratches. A foldover clasp with safety closure keeps the watch secure
- JAPANESE QUARTZ & DATE: Reliable Japanese quartz movement delivers convenient everyday timekeeping. The date window at 3 o'clock includes a magnifier for easier reading, and the bezel can track elapsed minutes
- LUMINOUS & 50M WATER RESISTANT: Luminous hands and markers support low-light reading. Rated to 50 meters for rain, handwashing and daily splashes; avoid diving, hot water and adjusting the crown while wet
- MADE FOR DAILY WEAR: The classic silver-and-black color scheme works for the office, travel, dinners and relaxed weekends. Includes one watch, a presentation box and a bracelet adjustment tool
Greg Hirsch: the apparent Rolex Submariner that does not work
In the season-three storyline, Greg seeks Kendall’s help to buy a “very expensive” Rolex. Time+Tide identifies the watch as apparently a Submariner; Greg later discovers that the watch he bought does not work. The episode turns a luxury purchase into a story about status anxiety, social pressure and the risk of being taken advantage of.
Time+Tide’s 2021 article reported a dealer asking $40,000 and compared that with watches available for under $15,000 at the time. Those are historical figures from that article, not present-day prices or valuation guidance.
Greg’s separate season-four watch
Greg’s later watch is not the Submariner from that earlier story. For season four, Hodinkee managing editor Danny Milton proposed a modern Rolex GMT-Master II with a Pepsi bezel and Jubilee bracelet, and the production team chose that option, according to Hodinkee’s season-four account.
Kendall Roy: Vacheron Constantin and Richard Mille
Vacheron Constantin Harmony Mono-Pusher Chronograph
Time+Tide identified Kendall’s season-three watch as a Vacheron Constantin Harmony Mono-Pusher Chronograph. Its 2021 article reported a 260-piece limited edition, a manually wound in-house caliber 3300 and a 42 mm cushion-shaped case. The watch appears in scenes that leave Kendall awkward or exposed, including the season-three finale; the connection between its presence and his character is an editorial reading, rather than an established production explanation. Richard Mille in season four
Season-four coverage also identifies Kendall with a Richard Mille. Jeremy Strong told GQ that Amanda Mille, the company’s brand and partnerships director, gave him a watch to wear for the character. Strong described several character-specific pieces, including a one-of-one Loro Piana jacket and sunglasses by Jerome Mage, in GQ’s interview. This is one documented sourcing example, not evidence that every watch in the series was donated or placed by a brand.

Time+Tide identifies Shiv wearing Cartier Panthère watches in both yellow gold and steel across the first three seasons. Its article describes the Panthère as quartz-driven. GQ’s broader look at the series also notes Shiv wearing Cartier, as well as Zenith and Chopard in later seasons; see GQ’s watch coverage.
The Panthère’s polished, composed look can be read as part of Shiv’s presentation and shifting position in the family. That is visual interpretation, not a meaning confirmed by the production team.
How the show’s watches were chosen
The watches were part of the show’s considered costume and prop work. GQ reports that prop master Monica Jacobs worked with the costume director and actors on selections. For season four, Hodinkee managing editor Danny Milton advised on character choices using character notes and lists of possible watches. This supports treating the watches as deliberate details, while leaving room for multiple interpretations of what a particular shot means.
The show also uses watches to make wealth explicit in dialogue. In the pilot, Tom describes Logan’s Patek Philippe gift as “it’s incredibly accurate; every time you look at it, it tells you how rich you are,” as quoted in Hodinkee’s coverage.
