The Suunto Race 3S is worth considering if you want a compact multisport watch with offline maps, dual-band GPS, a very bright AMOLED screen and long quoted battery life. Its 46 mm titanium case weighs 56 g, and the $599 US launch price ( £435 in the UK) puts it firmly in premium territory. Tom’s Guide’s Nick Harris-Fry found it comfortable for 24/7 wear, easy to read in direct sun, and generally consistent with a chest strap for heart-rate readings. The trade-offs are basic smartwatch functions, acronym-heavy training analysis and a price that is difficult to justify if you do not need mapping or endurance-focused features.
What is the Suunto Race 3S?
The Race 3S is Suunto’s compact premium watch for running, trail running, triathlon and other endurance sports. Suunto positions it as flagship trail performance in a 56 g titanium build. It combines a 46 mm case, sapphire crystal, 5 ATM water resistance, dual-band GPS, offline maps and more than 120 sport modes.

| Specification | Suunto Race 3S |
|---|---|
| Case diameter | 46 mm |
| Weight | 56 g, titanium construction |
| Screen | 1.32-inch, 466 × 466 AMOLED |
| Peak brightness | 2,000 nits |
| Lens | Sapphire crystal |
| Water resistance | 5 ATM |
| Storage | 64 GB |
| Strap | 22 mm silicone strap included |
| Sports | 120-plus sport modes |
Suunto includes a charging cable and the 22 mm silicone strap in the box. Storage is sufficient for offline map data and local music files, although the watch does not provide a streaming-music service.
Is the Suunto Race 3S good for small wrists?
Yes, it is one of the more capable options for buyers who find 47–49 mm adventure watches too large. The 46 mm case is only slightly larger than the 45 mm Race S, while the titanium construction keeps weight to 56 g. Tom’s Guide reported that the watch was comfortable for continuous, 24/7 wear.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The compact format matters most during sleep, long runs and multisport sessions, when a heavy case can become distracting. The Race 3S still has enough screen area for map and workout data, but people with very narrow wrists should check the 46 mm diameter against their current watch before ordering. Suunto specifies a 22 mm strap, so replacement bands need to use that width.
How good is the Race 3S display in sunlight?
The 1.32-inch AMOLED panel has a 466 × 466 resolution and a claimed peak brightness of 2,000 nits. That is a major upgrade over the Race S’s 600-nit display. Tom’s Guide reviewer Nick Harris-Fry said the screen remained readable in bright sunshine and described it as three times as bright as the original Race S.
AMOLED gives maps, pace fields and elevation graphics strong contrast, while sapphire crystal offers better scratch resistance than the Race S’s Gorilla Glass. The trade-off is that high brightness and an always-on display consume more power, especially when GPS is active.
How long does the Suunto Race 3S battery last?
Suunto quotes different figures depending on the tracking mode. Actual endurance varies with brightness, GPS settings, sensors, temperature and other conditions.

| Mode | Suunto claim | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Dual-band GPS | Up to 38 hours | For demanding routes where maximum positioning accuracy is enabled |
| Endurance GPS | Up to 45 hours | Longer events with a lower-power tracking configuration |
| Training mode | Up to 10 days | Mixed use centered on workouts |
| Daily mode | Up to 12 days | Everyday smartwatch and activity use under Suunto’s conditions |
Tom’s Guide recorded five to six days with high screen brightness, an always-on display and daily GPS. That result reflects a demanding configuration rather than a universal lifespan. If you run long events with dual-band GPS or keep the display bright, expect to charge more often than the headline daily-mode figure suggests.
Does the Race 3S have offline maps and reliable GPS?
Yes. Suunto provides free global offline maps, 64 GB of storage and dual-band GPS. Maps can be used away from a phone, which is especially useful on trail routes, in remote areas and during races where phone coverage is unreliable.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Tom’s Guide reported that Race 3S GPS tracks matched comparison tracks from Garmin and Coros during the review. Dual-band positioning is the strongest choice for dense urban areas, tree cover and mountainous terrain, while the endurance mode is aimed at extending battery life on longer activities.
How accurate is its heart-rate tracking?
The upgraded optical heart-rate sensor generally matched a chest strap in Tom’s Guide’s comparisons. That is encouraging for steady running and everyday training, but wrist sensors can still be affected by fit, skin contact, temperature and rapid intensity changes.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

The watch supports external Bluetooth sensors, so a chest strap remains the better option for interval sessions, cycling power or any workout where immediate heart-rate response matters.
What training and coaching features does it offer?
Race 3S supports more than 120 sports, including multisport and triathlon activities, and includes Suunto AI Coach. Training analysis is information-rich, but Tom’s Guide found the presentation more acronym-heavy and less approachable than the systems used by Garmin or Coros. New users may need time to learn the terminology before the metrics become useful for day-to-day decisions.
Suunto advertised an opportunity to register for three months of AI Coach free before 31 December 2026. That is a date-sensitive offer; check the current terms and any subscription requirement when purchasing.
What smart features are missing?
The Race 3S is primarily a sports computer rather than a smartwatch. You can store local music files and listen through Bluetooth headphones, but there is no NFC payment support and no integration with streaming-music services. Notifications and basic connected functions are therefore less extensive than on a general-purpose smartwatch.

Suunto Race 3S vs Race S: what changed?
The Race 3S keeps the compact Race concept but upgrades the screen, lens, storage and quoted dual-band GPS endurance. The following figures come from Suunto’s comparison material; battery figures are labeled because Suunto’s newer Race S product page gives a different number.
| Feature | Race 3S | Race S |
|---|---|---|
| Case diameter | 46 mm | 45 mm |
| Weight | 56 g titanium | 53 g titanium |
| Lens | Sapphire crystal | Gorilla Glass |
| Peak brightness | 2,000 nits | 600 nits |
| Storage | 64 GB | 32 GB |
| Dual-band GPS battery | Up to 38 hours | 30 hours in Suunto’s comparison article; the newer product page lists up to 32 hours |
The Race S remains lighter and generally cheaper, but the Race 3S’s brighter display, sapphire lens, larger storage allocation and longer quoted dual-band endurance are meaningful upgrades for trail athletes. A predecessor review from Triathlete also identified offline mapping, multisport modes and the smaller case as the main strengths of this format, while noting reduced endurance and rotating-crown usability complaints on the Race S.
Is the Suunto Race 3S worth $599?
At its 15 October 2026 launch, the Race 3S cost $599 in the US and £435 in the UK. Tom’s Guide described that as a major increase over the Race S and said the price makes the watch difficult to recommend against less expensive Suunto and Coros alternatives, including the Coros Pace 4 Pro and Suunto Run 2.
The premium is easiest to justify when you specifically need a smaller titanium case, sapphire protection, very high outdoor brightness, offline maps and strong dual-band GPS endurance in one device. Runners who mainly want notifications, payments, streaming music or simple training summaries can get better value from a less specialized watch.

Who should buy the Race 3S?
It is a strong fit for:
- Trail runners who need maps without carrying a phone.
- Triathletes who want dedicated multisport profiles and long GPS endurance.
- Runners with smaller wrists who still want a premium AMOLED display.
- Athletes who prioritize sapphire durability and 64 GB of storage.
Consider another watch if you need:
- NFC payments or streaming-music apps.
- A simpler, more approachable explanation of training metrics.
- The lowest possible price rather than mapping and endurance features.
- A case substantially smaller than 46 mm.
What should you check before buying?
- Measure your current watch or wrist to confirm that a 46 mm case is comfortable.
- Decide whether you will use dual-band GPS often; it delivers the best positioning but draws more power.
- Choose whether sapphire and 2,000-nit brightness justify the premium over the Race S.
- Check current pricing, firmware and the terms of any AI Coach promotion, because these can change after launch.
- If you rely on heart-rate data for intervals or racing, budget for a compatible Bluetooth chest strap.
