Can a Fitbit sync with a Samsung Galaxy?
Yes. Fitbit trackers and watches can sync with compatible Android phones, including Samsung Galaxy phones that meet Google Health’s stated Android 11-or-later requirement. Individual handset compatibility and settings can vary.
Pair the Fitbit from inside Google Health rather than pairing it only through the Galaxy’s Bluetooth settings. Fitbit wrist devices communicate with phones using Bluetooth Low Energy, and the companion app syncs data when the device is nearby.
Before you start: Fitbit and Galaxy requirements
- Samsung Galaxy phone: Android 11 or later. Meeting the minimum requirement does not guarantee identical compatibility on every handset.
- Google Health: Install or update the app from Google Play.
- Google Account: Sign in with the account associated with your Fitbit data. If prompted to move a Fitbit account to Google, follow the in-app migration process rather than creating a duplicate account.
- Bluetooth and internet: Keep Bluetooth enabled; Wi-Fi or mobile data lets the app communicate with online services.
- Fitbit: Charge the device and keep it close to the phone during setup and syncing.
Google Health’s exact permission and settings steps vary by phone and Android version. Google Health Help Center guidance advises consulting the phone manufacturer if a permission is not available in the listed location.

Google Health, Samsung Health, and Health Connect
Google Health is the current Android companion app, formerly called the Fitbit app. Samsung Health and a Galaxy Watch are separate products: pairing a Fitbit with a Galaxy phone does not automatically send Fitbit data to Samsung Health.
Health Connect is optional. It provides a way for supported apps to share selected health data when you grant permission; it is not needed for basic Fitbit-to-phone pairing. Available data depends on app and data-type support. On Android 14 and later, Health Connect is available through Settings; on Android 13 and earlier, Google says to install and open the Health Connect app.
For Galaxy Watch data to reach Google Health, Google’s third-party-device guidance describes an integration involving Samsung Health and Health Connect, with the required settings and consent enabled. That is a separate workflow from pairing a Fitbit tracker to a Galaxy phone.
How to connect a Fitbit to a Samsung Galaxy
1. Install Google Health and sign in
- Open Google Play Store on the Galaxy.
- Search for Google Health and install or update it.
- Open the app and sign in with the Google Account associated with the Fitbit data. New users can create an account during setup.
- If asked to migrate a Fitbit account, follow the in-app instructions.
2. Add the Fitbit in the app
- In Google Health, open Connections.
- Choose Add device, then select your Fitbit.
- Keep the Fitbit close to the Galaxy, Bluetooth on, and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Grant the permissions requested for the connection.
Some devices may also show a phone notification to start setup. Once paired, the device appears under Devices; the app can show details such as battery percentage and last sync time.

A Fitbit entry paired only through Galaxy Bluetooth settings may complicate setup. If the app cannot find or connect to the device, remove that Bluetooth pairing and retry through Google Health.
How Fitbit synchronization works
Fitbit trackers and watches sync automatically throughout the day when they are near the phone. Opening Google Health with the device nearby also triggers a sync attempt. You can manually sync by pulling down on the Today screen or using Connections > Sync. Check the device page for its last sync time.
Fitbit Aria and Aria 2 scales use Wi-Fi and sync after weigh-ins; they have a different setup path from wrist-worn Fitbit devices.

- Check proximity and charge. Keep the Fitbit close to the phone and make sure it is charged.
- Check permissions. Review Google Health’s permissions. Google’s guidance specifically calls out Location and Nearby devices on Android 12 and later when a device will not connect. Grant permissions applicable to your phone and requested features.
- Check Bluetooth and internet. Turn Bluetooth off for a few seconds, turn it back on, and confirm Wi-Fi or cellular data works.
- Try a manual sync. Open Google Health and pull down on the relevant screen, or use Connections > Sync.
- Allow background activity. Allow background data and remove restrictive battery settings for Google Health. Samsung’s exact labels vary; search Settings for the app’s battery and data controls.
- Restart and update. Restart the phone and Fitbit, then check for Android, Google Health, and device firmware updates.
- Check power-saving modes. Battery saver and Bedtime modes can limit background connectivity. Disable them temporarily while troubleshooting.
- Allow time after account migration. Google says a large transfer of historical data can take up to 48 hours. Do not unpair or reset solely because older history is delayed.
Reserve removing a device from the account or resetting it for last-resort or model-specific official support instructions. Google warns that unsynced data is deleted when a Fitbit is removed from an account.
Moving a Fitbit to a new Samsung Galaxy
- Install or update Google Health on the new Galaxy.
- Sign in with the Google Account associated with your Fitbit.
- Keep Bluetooth on, bring the Fitbit close, and grant requested permissions.
- In Google Health, open Connections > Add device and follow the prompts.
- Check the device page for its last sync time.
If the new phone cannot find the Fitbit, check Bluetooth, permissions, proximity, charge, and whether the old phone is still connected. Use the same account to access its associated data.

Why won’t my Fitbit sync with my Samsung phone?
Common checks include proximity and charge, app permissions, Bluetooth, internet access, background activity, battery-saving modes, and updates. Try a manual sync in Google Health after each relevant change.
Does a Fitbit need Location permission on a Galaxy phone?
Permission needs depend on the Android version and the feature. Google’s troubleshooting guidance calls out Location and Nearby devices (Android 12 and later) when a device will not connect. Review the permissions Google Health requests and those needed for particular features.
Can I still use a Fitbit Account?
The current Google Health app uses Google sign-in, and users with a Fitbit account need to move it to a Google Account to use the app. If prompted, follow the in-app migration flow; do not create a duplicate account as a workaround.
How long can historical data take to appear after migration?
Google says large transfers of historical data can take up to 48 hours. Avoid unpairing or resetting solely because older history has not appeared yet.
Can I share Fitbit data with other health apps?
Health Connect can share supported data among apps when you grant access. Which metrics are available depends on support by the apps and data types involved; it is not required for Fitbit pairing.
The Bottom Line
Pair a Fitbit with a Samsung Galaxy through Google Health’s Connections > Add device flow, using the Google Account associated with your Fitbit. If syncing fails, check proximity, charge, permissions, Bluetooth, internet, background limits, and power-saving modes before considering device removal or reset. Health Connect is optional for cross-app sharing, not basic Fitbit syncing.
