Those are design references, not a claim that this modern watch reproduces every detail of a vintage Carrera.

TAG Heuer’s US product page identifies CBS2216.BA0048 as a 39 mm Carrera Chronograph with a steel case and a seven-row beads-of-rice steel bracelet. Its silver sunray-brushed dial has applied indices and twin black azuré subdials in a bi-compax Panda layout. A sapphire-and-steel caseback and folding clasp with double security complete the listed configuration. These details identify this specific reference; other Carrera Glassbox models can differ in dial, size, or bracelet.
Which details create the vintage look?
The Panda dial
TAG Heuer describes the dial as paying tribute to the Panda look of the sought-after Heuer 7753 SN. The modern arrangement places two black subdials against a lighter silver dial, creating the high-contrast appearance associated with a Panda chronograph. The manufacturer presents this as a visual tribute; it does not establish that the modern dial duplicates the older model’s construction or every design detail. TAG Heuer’s product description states: “Paying tribute to the iconic ‘Panda’ look of the sought-after Heuer 7753 SN, this distinctive watch blends classic allure with a bold glassbox design for a new era of racing and heritage enthusiasts.”
The Glassbox crystal and flange
The domed sapphire crystal curves over the flange and blends into the case, with no external bezel. TAG Heuer describes this form as a legibility and ergonomics choice. Its 2024 Carrera Chronograph brochure says the Glassbox crystal pays homage to similarly domed hesalite crystal designs from the 1970s. Sapphire is the modern watch’s specified crystal material; the hesalite connection describes the inspiration, not the material used here.

How the Glassbox fits into Carrera history
TAG Heuer’s Carrera history page dates the model’s introduction to 1963 and traces five generations through 1985, when the last Carrera appeared in a TAG Heuer catalog before a production break. The same history notes two additional Glassbox Carreras in 2021: one derived from the Carrera 45 Dato and another with a teal dial.
The current-generation Glassbox series is a later chapter. The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry’s 2025 model roundup describes its revival as beginning in 2023, followed by expansion in color. A 2026 Hodinkee report also describes the 39 mm Glassbox design as debuting in 2023 and covers later 41 mm versions. These dates refer to different stages: earlier watches carrying Glassbox styling and the revival of the current-generation series should not be collapsed into one uninterrupted timeline.

How to distinguish it from other Carrera Glassbox options
Check the full reference before comparing a Glassbox listing. For this Panda version, CBS2216.BA0048 specifies a 39 mm case and seven-row beads-of-rice bracelet. TAG Heuer’s sibling reference CBS2216.BA0041 is listed with a three-row steel bracelet, so the bracelet configurations are not interchangeable descriptions of the same variant. Other options may also differ in dial color, case size, movement, or functions; confirm each detail on the product page for the reference being considered.
