The Seiko H558 “Arnie” is a vintage analogue-digital dive watch, not the same model as the modern Prospex SNJ025 that revives its look. The available vintage reference here is the H558-5000: a specialist watch database lists it as a 1984 release with a 150 m rating. Seiko’s current SNJ025, by contrast, uses a solar H851 movement and is rated to 200 m. Those specifications belong to different generations and should not be conflated.
What is the Seiko H558 “Arnie”?
The H558 is Seiko’s hybrid analogue-digital diver: it combines conventional hands with a digital display. A specialist vintage-watch database identifies the specific reference H558-5000 as “AKA [ARNIE]” and describes it as “Digi-Ana.” The nickname is also used for Seiko’s modern reinterpretation, the Prospex SNJ025, but that shared nickname does not make the two watches identical.
There is a date discrepancy in the available accounts. Digital-Watch.com gives 1984 as the H558-5000’s release year, while Seiko’s UK product description says the hybrid diver it reinterprets was originally released in 1982. These statements refer to differently framed descriptions; the sources do not resolve the chronology, so neither date should be silently substituted for the other.
What makes the vintage H558 a serious diver?
For the H558-5000 specifically, Digital-Watch.com lists a 150 m water-resistance rating. That is a secondary-source specification, not an official Seiko specification in the available material. It should not be generalized to every H558-family variant, and it is not the same rating as the modern SNJ025’s official 200 m diver’s rating.

The distinctive appeal is the mix of analogue hands and digital information in a purpose-built diver format. The specialist database associates the H558-5000 with Arnold Schwarzenegger films; Seiko’s own SNJ025 description says “Arnie” refers to Schwarzenegger, who wore the design in Commando. Exact H558 prop-watch references for individual films are not established by these sources.
H558 vs. modern Prospex SNJ025
Seiko presents the SNJ025 as a modern reinterpretation of the hybrid diver design. The specifications below are deliberately separated by model: the vintage column reflects the secondary database entry for H558-5000 only, while SNJ025 figures come from Seiko’s current product page.

SNJ025 size, construction and features
The SNJ025 is a substantial modern watch on paper: Seiko lists a 47.8 mm case diameter and 50.5 mm lug-to-lug measurement, with a 13.8 mm thickness. Its official description specifies Hardlex crystal, a silicone band, 22 mm lug spacing, a unidirectional rotating bezel, screw-down crown and screw case back. Seiko also lists an LED light and the digital functions shown in the comparison table.
The 22 mm lug spacing is a specification for the SNJ025. It does not establish that a 22 mm strap will fit every vintage H558; confirm the precise reference and fit before buying a replacement.

How to identify the modern model’s manual
For the SNJ025, Seiko’s support index directs owners to identify the caliber code on the case back and provides H851 instructions for diver’s watches. That is a route to the modern H851 manual, not evidence of H558 service procedures. An H851 manual should not be treated as instructions for the vintage watch.
