At $79.99, it combines built-in GPS, a large AMOLED display, broad workout tracking, and long battery life without requiring a recurring subscription for core data.
- Best overall: Amazfit Bip 6
- Best raw value: Xiaomi Smart Band 10, if you verify the regional version and seller warranty
- Best for beginners and sleep: Fitbit Inspire 3
- Best Fitbit for running: Fitbit Charge 6, but only when its sale price is around $100
- Best Android band under $60: Samsung Galaxy Fit3
- Best screenless tracker: Google Fitbit Air
- Best watch-style option: Amazfit Active 2 Standard
This guide covers legitimate, currently available trackers for a U.S. buyer who wants step, heart-rate, sleep, workout, and basic health tracking for about $100 or less. Prices were checked August 9, 2026; sale and marketplace prices can change.
Quick comparison: the best cheap fitness trackers
Cheap trackers now divide into two very different categories. Fitness bands are narrow, light, inexpensive, and usually depend on a phone for GPS. Budget smartwatches have larger displays and more watch-like controls; the better ones often include built-in GPS, but their apps and training tools may be less refined than those of more expensive watches.
That distinction matters more than a product’s advertised number of workout modes. A tracker with 150 modes does not necessarily have 150 types of sport-specific analysis. Many modes are activity labels or manually selected profiles rather than separate sensor systems.

What counts as a cheap fitness tracker in 2026?
For this guide, “cheap” means $100 or less before tax at the current U.S. list or street price. The useful budget tiers are:
- Under $60: Basic bands such as the Samsung Galaxy Fit3 and Xiaomi Smart Band 10. Expect phone-dependent GPS or no GPS, simpler workout controls, and fewer premium features.
- $60–$80: The strongest value tier. The Amazfit Bip 6 is the standout because it adds built-in GPS without crossing $80.
- $80–$100: Feature-rich bands and discounted premium models. This is where the Fitbit Charge 6 becomes interesting during a sale and where the Amazfit Active 2 offers a more complete watch-like experience.
- Over $100: Stretch alternatives only. The Garmin vívosmart 5 is worth considering for an existing Garmin user when discounted, but its $149.99 MSRP does not make it a genuinely cheap tracker.
A $50 band should not be judged as if it were a $250 smartwatch. The more expensive device may provide built-in GPS, better route recording, stronger workout controls, payments, music controls, navigation, richer training data, or a more mature app. Conversely, a band can be lighter, less distracting, and much cheaper to keep charged.
The best cheap fitness trackers, reviewed
1. Amazfit Bip 6 — best cheap fitness tracker overall
Buy it if: You want a readable screen and reliable independence from your phone during walks, runs, or rides.

The Amazfit Bip 6 is the best balance of hardware and price in this group. Its $79.99 list price buys a 1.97-inch AMOLED display, built-in GPS, more than 140 workout modes, 5 ATM water resistance, notifications, Bluetooth calling, and a manufacturer-claimed battery life of up to 14 days.
Built-in GPS is the key advantage. You can leave your phone at home and still record the route of an outdoor workout. That makes the Bip 6 a more meaningful upgrade over a basic band than a larger screen alone would be. It is also a better choice for people who want to glance at pace, distance, or heart rate without opening a phone.
The trade-off is Zepp. Independent reviews from Android Authority and Wareable treat the hardware and value favorably, while comparison coverage generally finds the Zepp app less polished and less approachable than Fitbit’s software. The Bip 6 also lacks NFC for mobile payments. Its large display is useful for workouts but makes it less discreet than a narrow sleep band.
Amazfit says the watch is suitable for swimming at 5 ATM, but not for hot showers or saunas. “5 ATM” means water resistance under defined test conditions; it does not mean safe for diving, high-speed water, hot water, or every swimming situation. Rinse and dry the watch and skin after exercise, and follow the manufacturer’s current care instructions.
Core tracking works through the free Zepp app. Amazfit may offer optional paid services such as enhanced sleep or coaching features, so check the exact current terms if those extras matter. The Bip 6 works with Android and iPhone, but check the current app requirements before buying an older phone. The official U.S. store page has recently shown temporary stock limitations, so confirm availability and the seller’s return policy at checkout.
2. Xiaomi Smart Band 10 — best raw value, with a U.S. availability warning
Buy it if: You want the largest feature set and longest claimed battery life for roughly $50, and you are comfortable verifying an imported or marketplace product.
Skip it if: You need onboard GPS, simple U.S. warranty support, or certainty that you are receiving the correct regional edition.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe Xiaomi Smart Band 10 is the strongest hardware-per-dollar proposition here. Current U.S. marketplace testing has placed it around $51, while Xiaomi’s regional specifications list a bright 1.72-inch AMOLED display, more than 150 sports modes, 5 ATM water resistance, and up to 21 days of typical battery life.
That price and battery claim are impressive, but the Band 10 has no onboard GPS. For route-based outdoor workouts, it uses connected GPS from a nearby phone. You must carry the phone, keep Bluetooth and location permissions enabled, and generally allow the Mi Fitness app to operate in the background. It is excellent for steps, everyday activity, sleep trends, and phone-assisted workouts; it is not the right choice for phone-free running.
The bigger concern is U.S. availability rather than the band itself. The sources reviewed did not establish a clear official Xiaomi U.S. retail channel for this model. A U.S. Amazon listing may be an imported global version, and global and Chinese editions can differ in NFC, firmware, language, regional behavior, and warranty coverage. Before ordering, confirm the exact model, seller, return policy, charger and band compatibility, Mi Fitness region selection, and whether firmware updates work in the United States.
Tom’s Guide’s review and Android Authority’s testing support the Band 10’s value proposition, but independent testing is not a guarantee of accuracy for every wearer. Sleep stages, calorie estimates, swim counts, and other derived metrics should be treated as estimates. Xiaomi’s own accuracy claims, such as an internal-lab swim-lap result, should not be read as a universal real-world guarantee.
Core Mi Fitness tracking does not require a recurring subscription. The Band 10 is compatible with Android 8.0 or newer and iOS 14 or newer according to Xiaomi’s regional specifications. If support and warranty predictability are more important than the last few dollars of value, choose the Bip 6 or a Fitbit instead.
3. Fitbit Inspire 3 — best for beginners and sleep tracking
Buy it if: You want a small, comfortable band with an approachable app and a particularly clear sleep and everyday-health presentation.
Skip it if: You want to run without a phone, see detailed workout information on the wrist, or can buy the GPS-equipped Charge 6 for the same price.
The Fitbit Inspire 3 remains one of the easiest trackers for a first-time buyer. Google’s U.S. Store lists it at $99.95, and Google rates its battery life at up to 10 days. It has a small color AMOLED display and tracks heart rate, sleep, stress, SpO2, activity, and women’s health.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Its narrow design is an advantage at night and on smaller wrists. The Fitbit dashboard is also more approachable than many budget alternatives: it turns a day’s activity and sleep into understandable summaries rather than presenting only a long list of numbers. Wareable’s testing gives the Inspire 3 a strong qualitative sleep and general-use assessment. That does not make its sleep stages clinically accurate; consumer wrist trackers estimate sleep states and are not substitutes for polysomnography or medical evaluation.
The major limitation is connected GPS. The Inspire 3 has no onboard GPS, so outdoor distance and route recording require a phone with location services and the Fitbit/Google Health app available. If you carry your phone anyway, that may be perfectly adequate. If you leave it at home, choose the Bip 6, Active 2, or Charge 6.
In the 2026 U.S. ecosystem, Fitbit devices use the Google Health app; Google says the Fitbit app transition began May 19, 2026. Check the current setup instructions before pairing. Google publishes Android 11 and iOS 16.4 as the relevant current minimums for newer Fitbit products such as the Charge 6 and Fitbit Air; verify the exact requirement for your phone and device.

Core Inspire 3 tracking remains usable without Google Health Premium, but some advanced insights, coaching, and content are subscription-dependent. Google’s published support table lists guaranteed security updates for the Inspire 3 through at least February 2028 while the device remains covered by that policy. That is a minimum security-support commitment, not a guarantee of new features, perfect app compatibility, or battery longevity.
4. Fitbit Charge 6 — best discounted Fitbit and best cheap Fitbit for runners
Buy it if: You find it at or below $100 and want Fitbit’s app with built-in GPS, NFC, and a larger display.
Skip it if: It is selling near its $159.95 MSRP, or you do not need GPS and would rather buy a lighter, cheaper band.
The Fitbit Charge 6 is the most capable Fitbit choice in this price range, but only when discounted. Google’s current specification page lists a $99.95 sale price against a $159.95 comparison price. At the sale price, its built-in GPS and broader hardware make it an excellent deal. At full price, the Bip 6 and Active 2 change the value equation.
The Charge 6 includes built-in GPS and GLONASS, an AMOLED display, NFC, 5 ATM water resistance, and up to seven days of claimed battery life. Its electrical sensors support ECG and EDA Scan applications, subject to geographic availability, eligibility, and the limitations of those features. ECG or irregular-rhythm notifications are screening tools, not a diagnosis.

GPS and an always-on display can reduce the stated battery life substantially, as can frequent notifications, continuous heart-rate sampling, SpO2 measurements, and bright-screen use. Google also warns that heart-rate accuracy depends on physiology, device placement, movement, and activity.
As with the Inspire 3, core tracking does not require Premium, but advanced insights, coaching, and some content may be paywalled. The Charge 6 works with Android 11 or newer and iOS 16.4 or newer. It is an especially logical upgrade for an existing Fitbit user who already has historical data in the Google Health ecosystem.
5. Samsung Galaxy Fit3 — best inexpensive Android band
Important compatibility warning: The Galaxy Fit3 does not work with iPhone according to Samsung’s official U.S. support documentation. It is an Android-only recommendation.
Buy it if: You have a compatible Android phone, especially a Samsung phone, and want a large screen with basic health tracking for $59.99.

The Samsung Galaxy Fit3 has a $59.99 U.S. starting price, a large display, a 208 mAh battery rated for up to 13 days, and an IP68 rating. It tracks heart rate, sleep, stress, blood oxygen, automatic workouts, and cycle information, and it can show notifications and control media. Fall detection and SOS functions have additional requirements, including a paired Galaxy phone for some features.
There is no onboard GPS. Outdoor routes and distance depend on the paired phone. The Fit3 also cannot perform ECG or body-composition measurements, despite offering several basic wellness sensors.
Samsung Health supplies the core tracking ecosystem without a Fitbit-style mandatory Premium tier. The software is a natural fit for Samsung owners, but do not assume every Android phone offers identical features: check Samsung’s current compatibility list and the requirements for functions such as fall detection and SOS.
Some roundup articles have listed the Fit3 as compatible with both Android and iOS. Samsung’s own U.S. support page is the authoritative source for this purchase decision, and it says Android only. That makes the Fit3 a good inexpensive Android band, not a universal cheap tracker.
6. Google Fitbit Air — best screenless tracker
Buy it if: You want a very light wearable that records health data without putting a screen, notifications, or workout statistics on your wrist.
Skip it if: You want to see your steps, pace, heart rate, or route while exercising, or you want to avoid a possible Premium subscription.
The Google Fitbit Air starts at $99.99 and weighs 5.2 grams without its band. It has no display, lasts up to seven days, and uses the Google Health app to present heart rate, steps, sleep, readiness, cardio load, SpO2, and other metrics.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe screenless design is not a missing feature for everyone. It is useful for people who find watch notifications distracting, want a device that disappears during sleep, or prefer reviewing data later. But all live feedback requires the phone: the Fitbit Air has no onboard GPS and cannot show workout pace or heart rate on the wrist. Outdoor workout tracking therefore relies on the phone and app.
Google lists a 90-minute full charge and says five minutes of charging can provide approximately one day of use under its specified conditions. Its product and regulatory information lists 5 ATM/50-meter water resistance and IP68. Those ratings still do not mean safe use in saunas, hot tubs, diving, or high-velocity water.
A Google account and the Google Health app are required. The standard offer includes a three-month Google Health Premium trial, subject to its terms. Core activity, sleep, and health tracking remains available without Premium, but Premium adds the Google Health Coach, adaptive plans, deeper sleep insights, proactive insights, workouts, and mindfulness content. Google lists Premium from $9.99 per month or $99 per year.
The two-year cost deserves attention. If the $99.99 hardware is followed by two annual Premium renewals at the currently listed $99 annual rate, the illustrative total is $297.99 before tax:

7. Amazfit Active 2 Standard — best budget smartwatch-style alternative
Buy it if: You want a conventional round watch, built-in GPS, on-wrist workout controls, and navigation at the $100 boundary.
Skip it if: You want the lightest, narrowest band or the simplest possible health-tracking app.
The standard Amazfit Active 2 starts at $99.99. It has a 1.32-inch round AMOLED display, built-in GPS using five satellite-positioning systems, more than 160 workout modes, offline maps, turn-by-turn directions, and up to 10 days of typical battery life. Amazfit also claims up to 21 hours of continuous GPS use.
This is a budget smartwatch rather than a narrow fitness band. It is a better fit for someone who wants a traditional watch shape and readable workout data, and its navigation features give it a capability that most sub-$60 bands lack. It works with Android and iPhone; Amazfit lists Android 7.0 or newer and iOS 14 or newer for this model.
The Zepp app is free for core use, though Amazfit’s optional services and exact sleep/coaching terms should be checked before purchase. The Active 2’s software is less polished than Fitbit’s in some independent comparisons, but the hardware package is unusually strong at $99.99. Treat the 10-day figure as typical-use guidance: GPS, frequent notifications, bright-screen settings, and continuous health sensing can reduce it.
If you want a tracker that looks and behaves like a watch, the Active 2 is a better choice than the Bip 6. If you want a small sleep band, the Inspire 3 or Xiaomi Smart Band 10 is more appropriate.

Stretch alternatives that are not truly cheap
Garmin vívosmart 5 — consider only when discounted
The Garmin vívosmart 5 launched with a $149.99 suggested retail price, up to seven days of battery life, 5 ATM water resistance, and no onboard GPS. It uses connected phone GPS and tracks heart rate, sleep, stress, blood oxygen, activity, and Garmin’s Body Battery.
Its reason to buy is Garmin Connect, not hardware value. Existing Garmin users may prefer keeping their data, Body Battery history, and training context in one ecosystem. Core Garmin Connect data is available without a required subscription, although Garmin Connect+ adds optional services.
At $149.99, it should not appear in a list of the best cheap trackers. It becomes relevant when a reputable retailer discounts it substantially or when Garmin’s ecosystem is worth more to you than built-in GPS and a newer display.
Garmin Forerunner 55 — the better stretch choice for serious runners
If your real goal is structured running rather than general activity tracking, a discounted Garmin Forerunner 55 is a more appropriate stretch purchase than a basic band. Tom’s Guide lists built-in GPS, up to 14 days of smartwatch battery life, and about 20 hours in GPS mode. It is not normally a true sub-$100 fitness tracker, but it brings more credible running tools, training plans, intervals, and Garmin data to the wrist.
Serious race training also makes GPS reliability, interval controls, recovery tools, external-sensor support, navigation, and battery under GPS load more important than a long list of activity profiles. A cheap band can be a useful activity companion, but it should not be your primary training instrument if you depend on those features.
Garmin CIRQA — a premium screenless alternative
Garmin launched CIRQA in July 2026 at $199.99. It is screenless, lasts up to 10 days, uses connected GPS, and adds more advanced sleep and training features without a required subscription. It is a competitor to the Fitbit Air’s screenless concept, not a cheap alternative. Its price alone excludes it from the main list.
Best cheap tracker by use case
Best for running without a phone
Choose the Amazfit Bip 6 for the best value, the Amazfit Active 2 for a round watch and navigation, or the Fitbit Charge 6 if it is discounted to around $100. A Garmin Forerunner 55 is the better stretch choice for structured training.
Do not choose the Fitbit Inspire 3, Fitbit Air, Samsung Galaxy Fit3, Xiaomi Smart Band 10, or Garmin vívosmart 5 for phone-free route recording. They either have no GPS or rely on a connected phone.
Recommended Free Tools
Best for a casual runner who carries a phone
The Inspire 3 or Xiaomi Smart Band 10 can be adequate if you only need phone-assisted distance, basic heart rate, and activity history. The Inspire 3 offers the more approachable app; Xiaomi offers more hardware for less money but carries regional-support risks.
Best for sleep tracking
The Fitbit Inspire 3 is the easiest recommendation for a beginner who wants sleep duration, trends, and an understandable dashboard. The Fitbit Air is compelling if you specifically want a screenless device that is easy to wear overnight. The Xiaomi Smart Band 10 offers extraordinary battery life for the price, while Garmin vívosmart 5 makes more sense for someone already using Garmin Connect and Body Battery.
The Samsung Galaxy Fit3 is sufficient for basic sleep monitoring but less compelling if deep recovery interpretation is your priority. No consumer tracker in this list should be described as clinically accurate for sleep stages.
Best for Android
Choose the Samsung Galaxy Fit3 if you have a compatible Android phone and want a low-cost Samsung Health band. Choose the Amazfit Bip 6 if you need built-in GPS, or the Xiaomi Smart Band 10 if you accept its marketplace and regional-version caveats.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Best for iPhone
Exclude the Samsung Galaxy Fit3. The best iPhone choices are the Amazfit Bip 6 for GPS value, the Fitbit Charge 6 for Fitbit features and built-in GPS, the Amazfit Active 2 for a watch-style design, or the Inspire 3 and Fitbit Air for simpler health tracking.
Best under $60
For Android users, the Galaxy Fit3 is the safer mainstream recommendation at $59.99. The Xiaomi Smart Band 10 may offer more battery and features at about $51, but its U.S. street price, seller, regional edition, and warranty need checking. For iPhone users, the Xiaomi is the lower-cost option of these two because the Galaxy Fit3 is not compatible.

- 【All-day Activity Tracker】: ENGERWALL IP68 Waterproof fitness tracker can record and track your daily steps, calories burned, exercise distance and time. It can also monitor your Body Temp, Heart Rate, Blood Oxygen and Blood Pressure. - 【Working Time】: Smart Fitness Watch is the best partner at work, you can set it on the mobile APP ‘Runmefit’: up to 5 sets of alarms, you don’t have to worry about being late for appointments or forgetting important things. You can set drinking Water Reminders and Sedentary Reminders to establish a healthy way of working.
Best with no recurring subscription
Prefer the Samsung Galaxy Fit3, Xiaomi Smart Band 10, Amazfit Bip 6, or Amazfit Active 2. Garmin’s core Connect data is also available without a required subscription, so a discounted vívosmart 5 can suit an existing Garmin user.
Fitbit devices remain usable without Premium for core tracking. The important qualification is that deeper insights, readiness or coaching functions, workout libraries, mindfulness content, and some other features can require Google Health Premium. Look at the free feature set rather than trusting a simple “subscription-free” label.
Best screenless tracker
Choose Google Fitbit Air under $100 if you want the lightest, least distracting option and accept phone dependence. Choose Garmin CIRQA only if you are willing to pay $199.99 for a more training-oriented screenless ecosystem.
Best for small wrists or overnight comfort
The narrow Fitbit Inspire 3 is the safest starting point. The Xiaomi Smart Band 10 is also a band-style option. Watch-style models such as the Bip 6 and Active 2 provide more readable workout information but occupy more wrist space.
Comfort affects data quality. Wear the sensor snugly enough to maintain contact without making the skin sore, and remove or loosen it if irritation develops. Dry the band and skin after swimming or heavy sweating, and consider a softer fabric or silicone strap if the supplied strap is uncomfortable overnight.
Best for swimming
The Bip 6, Xiaomi Smart Band 10, and Fitbit Charge 6 carry 5 ATM ratings. Fitbit Air documentation lists 5 ATM/50-meter resistance and IP68, while the Galaxy Fit3 is IP68-rated. These are water-resistance descriptions, not a universal “waterproof” guarantee.
- Amazfit Bip 6: Amazfit says 5 ATM is suitable for swimming, but not hot showers or saunas.
- Xiaomi Smart Band 10: Xiaomi excludes hot showers, hot springs, saunas, and high-speed water activities.
- Fitbit Charge 6: 5 ATM is intended for shallow water, not high-velocity or high-temperature water.
- Fitbit Air: Product and regulatory information lists 50-meter/5 ATM and IP68 ratings, but the same general limitations apply.
- Galaxy Fit3: IP68 does not mean resistance to every type of water exposure.
Check whether the supplied strap is suitable for water, close the charging contacts according to the instructions, and do not use any of these ratings as permission for diving, sauna use, hot tubs, or high-speed water sports.
GPS: built-in, connected, or absent?
This is the specification most likely to be misunderstood. Built-in GPS means the tracker has its own positioning hardware and can record an outdoor route without the phone. Connected GPS means the tracker borrows location data from a nearby phone. The phone must remain with you, Bluetooth and location permissions must be enabled, and the companion app may need permission to run in the background. No GPS means the product cannot record a route itself; outdoor workout tracking may be limited to phone-assisted activity.
Trackers with built-in GPS
- Amazfit Bip 6
- Fitbit Charge 6
- Amazfit Active 2
- Garmin Forerunner 55, as a running-focused stretch alternative
Trackers with connected GPS only
- Fitbit Inspire 3
- Xiaomi Smart Band 10
- Garmin vívosmart 5
- Google Fitbit Air
- Garmin CIRQA
Trackers without onboard GPS
- Samsung Galaxy Fit3
- Google Fitbit Air
A large AMOLED display helps you read pace and heart rate, but it does not replace onboard GPS. Decide first whether you will carry your phone. If the answer is no, eliminate every connected-GPS and no-GPS model before comparing battery or sleep features.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do cheap fitness trackers require a subscription?
Usually not for basic tracking, but “no subscription” needs a precise definition. The relevant question is whether you can use the device, retain historical data, and see useful trends without paying every month—not whether the brand offers any paid service at all.
| Platform | What is generally free | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Amazfit Zepp | Core activity, heart-rate, workout, and health tracking | Optional Zepp Aura or related sleep/coaching services; verify current terms |
| Samsung Health | Core Galaxy Fit3 tracking and history | Some phone-dependent safety or ecosystem features have extra device requirements |
| Mi Fitness | Core Xiaomi Smart Band 10 tracking | Regional app behavior, firmware, and account settings matter more than subscription cost |
| Garmin Connect | Core data, history, and Garmin metrics | Garmin Connect+ is an optional paid service |
| Google Health and Fitbit | Core activity, sleep, and health tracking | Advanced insights, coaching, plans, workouts, mindfulness, or proactive insights may require Premium |
Google lists Google Health Premium from $9.99 per month or $99 per year. The Fitbit Air includes a three-month trial with the standard offer, subject to the terms. Set a cancellation reminder before the trial ends if you do not want an automatic renewal.
For the Fitbit Inspire 3 and Charge 6, the free tier is not useless: you can still wear the tracker and receive core measurements. But a buyer who wants the deepest interpretation of those measurements should include Premium in the total cost of ownership. A $99 tracker plus two $99 annual renewals is not economically equivalent to a $79 tracker whose core data remains free.
Which app matters most?
The sensor hardware is only half of the product. You will usually interact with the companion app more often than with the tracker itself. Consider:
- How quickly setup and synchronization work.
- Whether the daily dashboard is understandable or crowded with scores.
- How easy it is to start, stop, and review workouts.
- Whether long-term history remains visible without a subscription.
- Whether data can be shared with Apple Health or Android Health Connect.
- Whether the platform works with products you already own.
- Whether the company has a credible firmware-update, privacy, warranty, and support history.
Fitbit devices: In the 2026 U.S. ecosystem, the Fitbit experience is moving into the Google Health app. This is the most approachable option for many beginners, particularly for sleep and daily trends, but some deeper interpretation is paid.

Amazfit: The free Zepp app supports the Bip 6 and Active 2. The hardware value is excellent, but independent comparison coverage generally considers the software less polished than Fitbit’s.
Xiaomi: The Mi Fitness app provides the Band 10’s core tracking. The app and device can behave differently depending on whether the band is a global or Chinese edition and which region is selected.
Samsung: Samsung Health is a strong fit for Samsung and compatible Android owners. It is not an iPhone solution for the Fit3.
Garmin: Garmin Connect is the reason to buy a discounted vívosmart 5 or stretch to a Forerunner. It provides a broader training context than a basic band, and core data does not require a subscription.
Are cheap tracker heart-rate readings accurate?
Optical wrist heart-rate sensors can be useful for resting heart rate, walking, steady running, and broad heart-rate-zone trends. They are less dependable during rapid intervals, weight training, rowing, cycling vibrations, or any activity where the band moves independently of the wrist.

Accuracy can also be affected by a loose fit, tattoos, sweat, cold skin, wrist shape, skin contact, and individual physiology. Wear the tracker slightly higher on the wrist and snugly enough to prevent movement, without tightening it to the point of discomfort. For serious training or precise beat-to-beat measurement, a chest strap remains preferable.
Google’s Fitbit documentation says heart-rate accuracy depends on physiology, device location, movement, and activity. That is the right way to interpret every cheap watch in this guide: useful for trends and decisions about everyday activity, not an ECG-grade replacement for a clinical device.
SpO2, calorie burn, stress, readiness, sleep stages, and recovery scores also require caution. SpO2 on a wellness tracker is not a diagnostic oxygen monitor. Calorie expenditure is an estimate, not a precise accounting system; a 2026 study examining body fat and skin tone in smartwatch calorie estimates reinforces why these figures should be treated as rough trends rather than exact measurements.

- Serious interval training: Basic bands may record heart rate, but they may not provide reliable interval controls, sensor support, or workout analysis.
- Exact calories: No wrist tracker can guarantee a precise calorie-burn number for an individual.
- Medical diagnosis: Heart rate, SpO2, sleep, stress, readiness, and calorie metrics are not diagnoses. ECG and irregular-rhythm tools, where available, have eligibility and regional restrictions and should not replace medical care.
- Clinical sleep staging: Consumer sleep stages are estimates, not polysomnography.
- Phone-free routes on bands: Connected GPS requires the phone. A display and an activity mode count do not imply onboard GPS.
- Long-term support for imported products: A low marketplace price can be offset by uncertain warranty service, regional firmware, language, or returns.
- Full smartwatch functions: Budget trackers generally compromise on third-party apps, payments, music, navigation, and calls. The Bip 6 supports Bluetooth calling but does not have NFC payments; the Charge 6 adds NFC, while a band such as the Fit3 is designed primarily for health and notification basics.
Buying checklist: avoid the expensive mistake
- Check phone compatibility first. If you use an iPhone, remove the Galaxy Fit3 from your list. For Fitbit Air and Charge 6, verify that the phone meets Android 11 or iOS 16.4 requirements. Xiaomi, Amazfit, and Garmin have different minimums.
- Decide whether you need phone-free GPS. If you do, choose Bip 6, Active 2, or Charge 6. Do not mistake connected GPS for built-in GPS.
- Compare the price type. Record whether the price is MSRP, a temporary brand sale, a refurbished offer, or a marketplace import. Charge 6 is a cheap pick only near $100; vívosmart 5 is a stretch option only when discounted.
- Calculate subscription cost. Identify what remains free, what is paywalled, the trial duration, and the renewal price. The Fitbit Air’s potential two-year total can reach $297.99 before tax if two annual Premium renewals are added.
- Check the regional version. For Xiaomi, confirm global versus China edition, NFC, firmware, language, region selection, charger, replacement bands, warranty, and seller returns.
- Read water limitations. 5 ATM and IP68 are not interchangeable promises of protection against hot water, saunas, diving, or high-speed water.
- Assess comfort. A device that irritates your skin or is too bulky to sleep in will produce less useful data than a less feature-rich tracker you actually wear.
- Prefer verifiable support. Buy from a returnable retailer and favor products with a named manufacturer, functioning app, privacy policy, published updates, clear warranty terms, and independent testing.
Should you buy an anonymous tracker from Amazon?
Do not automatically treat an anonymous marketplace tracker as equivalent to a Fitbit, Samsung, Xiaomi, Amazfit, or Garmin. The defensible reason to avoid it is not that every no-name product is inaccurate or unsafe; it is that there may be too little verifiable evidence about support and long-term operation.
Before buying an unfamiliar model, look for:
- A named manufacturer and a functioning companion app.
- A published privacy policy and understandable account requirements.
- A history of firmware updates.
- Clear water-resistance and warranty terms.
- Independent testing rather than only seller claims.
- A returnable listing from a retailer you trust.
If those details cannot be verified, the initial saving may not justify losing reliable software, data history, replacement parts, or warranty support. A used Fitbit from a reputable seller can also be worth considering, but check battery condition, return coverage, account reset status, and whether the model still meets your phone’s requirements.
Final recommendations
For the majority of buyers, buy the Amazfit Bip 6. It is the unusual budget tracker that combines a readable AMOLED display and built-in GPS with a price below $80 and long claimed battery life.
Choose the Xiaomi Smart Band 10 when maximum value matters more than guaranteed U.S. support, and verify the imported listing carefully. Choose the Fitbit Inspire 3 for the simplest beginner and sleep experience, but compare it directly with a discounted Charge 6. Choose the Charge 6 when it is actually near $100 and you want Fitbit’s app plus phone-free GPS. Choose the Galaxy Fit3 only for Android, especially Samsung, and choose the Fitbit Air only if the absence of a screen is a feature rather than a limitation.
Recommended Free Tools
If your budget can reach $100 and you want a real watch shape with GPS and navigation, the Amazfit Active 2 Standard is the best smartwatch-style alternative. If you are training for races, skip the generic-band mindset and consider stretching to a Garmin Forerunner 55.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best fitness tracker under $100 in 2026?
The Amazfit Bip 6 is the best overall choice for most U.S. buyers because it costs $79.99, has built-in GPS, a large AMOLED display, broad workout tracking, and up to 14 days of claimed battery life. The Xiaomi Smart Band 10 offers more raw value for about $51, but its U.S. availability, regional version, and warranty require careful checking.
Which cheap fitness trackers have built-in GPS?
The Amazfit Bip 6, Fitbit Charge 6, and Amazfit Active 2 have built-in GPS. The Garmin Forerunner 55 is a running-focused stretch option. The Fitbit Inspire 3, Xiaomi Smart Band 10, Garmin vívosmart 5, and Fitbit Air use connected phone GPS instead, while the Samsung Galaxy Fit3 has no onboard GPS.
Does the Samsung Galaxy Fit3 work with iPhone?
No. Samsung’s official U.S. support documentation says the Galaxy Fit3 is compatible with Android phones only. Do not rely on roundup pages that list iPhone compatibility; choose an Amazfit, Fitbit, Xiaomi global model, or Garmin instead.
Do Fitbit trackers require Google Health Premium?
No for core tracking. Fitbit Inspire 3, Charge 6, and Fitbit Air can provide basic activity and health data without Premium. Google Health Premium adds features such as deeper insights, coaching, adaptive plans, workouts, mindfulness content, and proactive insights, depending on the device and current plan.
Is the Xiaomi Smart Band 10 officially available in the U.S.?
The reviewed sources establish regional Xiaomi specifications and current U.S. marketplace pricing around $51, but not a clearly established official Xiaomi U.S. retail channel for this model. Treat U.S. availability as seller- and version-dependent, and verify the global or China edition, warranty, language, firmware, region settings, and return policy.
Which cheap tracker has the longest battery life?
Xiaomi claims up to 21 days of typical battery life for the Smart Band 10. The Amazfit Bip 6 is rated for up to 14 days, the Samsung Galaxy Fit3 up to 13 days, the Fitbit Inspire 3 up to 10 days, and the Fitbit Air and Charge 6 up to seven days. GPS, always-on displays, notifications, bright screens, frequent heart-rate sampling, and SpO2 use can reduce any of these figures.
Are cheap fitness trackers accurate?
They can be useful for resting heart rate, walking, steady running, step trends, and broad activity patterns. Rapid intervals, weight training, rowing, loose fit, cold skin, sweat, tattoos, and vibration can reduce heart-rate reliability. Sleep stages, SpO2, calorie burn, stress, readiness, and recovery scores are estimates and should not be treated as medical diagnoses.

Can I swim with a 5 ATM fitness tracker?
A 5 ATM rating generally supports defined shallow-water use, and Amazfit says the Bip 6 is suitable for swimming. It does not mean the tracker is safe for every water activity. Manufacturers commonly exclude hot showers, hot springs, saunas, diving, and high-speed water. Follow the exact model’s care instructions and use water-resistant rather than waterproof as the description.
Is a fitness band better than a cheap smartwatch?
A band is usually lighter, less distracting, and cheaper, making it better for sleep and basic health tracking. A budget smartwatch-style model such as the Amazfit Bip 6 or Active 2 provides a larger display, built-in GPS, and more on-wrist workout information. Choose based on GPS, comfort, and app needs rather than screen size alone.
Should I buy a used Fitbit or an anonymous new tracker?
A used Fitbit from a reputable seller may be the better-supported choice, but check battery condition, return coverage, account reset status, and phone compatibility. An anonymous tracker should have a named manufacturer, functioning app, privacy policy, update history, clear warranty, independent testing, and a reliable return policy before you consider it.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Buy the Amazfit Bip 6 for the best all-around value and built-in GPS. Buy the Xiaomi Smart Band 10 for maximum features per dollar only after checking the imported listing. Choose Fitbit for its approachable health and sleep experience, but buy the Charge 6 only when discounted to about $100. Android users can save with the Galaxy Fit3; iPhone users should avoid it. And if you want a tracker with no screen, choose Fitbit Air knowing that phone dependence and potential Premium costs are part of the product.
