Robert-Jan Broer’s best watches of 2025 are an enthusiast’s shortlist rather than a value ranking: eight luxury watches chosen because they impressed him, from the Rolex Land-Dweller and Omega Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon to the Breguet Classique Phase de Lune 7235, his overall favorite. The selection spans integrated-bracelet sports watches, chronographs and exceptionally finished dress watches.
What RJ’s 2025 list means
Published by Fratello Watches on December 13, 2025, the roundup reflects Broer’s personal taste after more than 25 years of collecting. He says his preferences have moved toward simpler dress watches and makes clear that he did not apply an affordability filter. The list therefore answers “which watches stood out to this collector?” rather than “which watch is cheapest, most accurate or the best investment?”

1. Rolex Land-Dweller
Broer’s Land-Dweller choice centers on its high-frequency caliber 7136, beating at 36,000 vibrations per hour. He points to the movement’s silicon-heavy escapement, ceramic balance staff and more than a dozen patents as evidence that the watch is technically ambitious, not merely a new case-and-bracelet design.

The visual story also matters. Broer connects the integrated case and bracelet to Rolex Oysterquartz history, giving the Land-Dweller a recognizable Rolex lineage while moving it into a contemporary sports-watch format. It is the list’s clearest choice for readers who want modern engineering and an integrated bracelet.
2. Omega Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon
This Speedmaster uses a gray-ceramic case and Omega’s laser-engraved caliber 3869. The material changes the familiar Moonwatch formula without abandoning the chronograph identity, while fabric and soft-rubber straps give it a less conventional feel than a steel-bracelet Speedmaster.
The 44.25mm diameter sounds imposing, but Broer reports that on his 18cm wrist it wore only slightly larger than his 42mm Moonwatch. That is a personal wrist observation, not a universal fit guarantee: lug shape, strap choice and wrist circumference will change the result.
3. Chopard L.U.C Qualité Fleurier 20th Anniversary Edition
Chopard’s anniversary watch is the quiet, formally dressed entry in the group. It has a three-hand layout, a gold-and-brown dial and individually welded lugs, details that reward close inspection rather than immediate wrist presence.

Its in-house L.U.C 96.09-L movement reinforces the watch’s manufacture-dress-watch character. Broer’s selection suggests that the appeal lies in proportion, hand finishing and construction detail rather than complication count.
4. Piaget Polo 79 in white gold
Piaget introduced the white-gold Polo 79 in 2025 after customer requests. The watch retains the model’s heavy-gold feel and pronounced gadroon-focused case-and-bracelet design, so the material change does not dilute the 1970s-inspired integrated form.
This is an option for readers who prefer a bold precious-metal sports watch: more sculptural and conspicuous than a conventional slim dress watch, but still built around a continuous bracelet-and-case design.
5. Patek Philippe Calatrava 6196P
The Calatrava 6196P pairs a 38mm platinum case with a salmon dial. Broer positions it as a successor to reference 5196(P), placing the watch within Patek Philippe’s restrained, time-only Calatrava tradition.

Its interest is in the combination of precious metal, compact size and warm dial color. Among the eight picks, it is one of the most straightforward choices for someone seeking a classic dress-watch silhouette rather than a visible complication.
6. Singer Heritage Chronograph
Singer’s 39mm Heritage Chronograph uses a revised vintage Valjoux 236 movement, with two counters, mushroom pushers and a flat crown. Those controls and the compact case give it a deliberately period-informed profile while the revised movement provides the mechanical foundation.
Initial dials were black or green. A Dubai Watch Week release added 10 red-dial pieces, so the red version should be understood as a specifically limited release rather than the standard configuration.
7. Daniel Roth Extra Plat Souscription
The Daniel Roth Extra Plat Souscription is defined by its dimensions: 35.5mm wide, 38.6mm from lug to lug and just 7.7mm thick. In 18K yellow gold, those measurements produce the compact, low-profile presence associated with a traditional ultra-thin dress watch.

New Daniel Roth watches are made by La Fabrique du Temps, an LVMH subsidiary, and presented to Daniel Roth. That production context is part of the watch’s identity, linking the current collection to the designer’s name while acknowledging who manufactures the modern pieces.
8. Breguet Classique Phase de Lune 7235
The Breguet Classique Phase de Lune 7235 is Broer’s unequivocal favorite: “If I had to pick one favorite watch from 2025, it would be this Classique Phase de Lune 7235.”
Its design pays tribute to Breguet No. 5 from 1794. The watch combines Breguet gold with a tone-on-tone gold dial, a moonphase display and hand-guilloché decoration. Those elements make it the list’s most explicitly historical and decorative watch, and the clearest expression of Broer’s current preference for refined dress watches.

For an integrated-bracelet sports watch
The Rolex Land-Dweller emphasizes high-frequency technical development and a Rolex-linked design lineage. The white-gold Piaget Polo 79 instead emphasizes precious-metal weight, gadroons and visual impact. Both use a unified case-and-bracelet concept, but their personalities are different: engineering-led for Rolex, sculptural and jewelry-like for Piaget.
For a chronograph
The Omega Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon is the larger, ceramic, technically modern option, with a 44.25mm case and caliber 3869. The Singer Heritage Chronograph is smaller at 39mm and more overtly vintage in its controls and revised Valjoux 236 architecture. Wrist size and preferred visual language are likely to decide between them.
For a dress watch
The Chopard L.U.C, Patek Philippe Calatrava, Daniel Roth Extra Plat and Breguet Classique Phase de Lune all take different routes. Chopard focuses on welded-lug construction and an in-house three-hand movement; Patek on a 38mm platinum case and salmon dial; Daniel Roth on thinness and compact gold proportions; Breguet on historical reference, guilloché and moonphase display.
