That title is an opinion, not an objective ranking. Gevril describes the discontinued watch as a homage to a famed 1960s–70s chronograph style, but does not explicitly identify the Rolex Daytona as its source. The Daytona reference 6239 is a useful comparison because of its shared design cues—not evidence that the two watches are identical, related in manufacture or endorsed by Rolex.
1. Its design points clearly to the vintage chronograph era
Gevril says the Tribeca was released in 1999 and describes its design as a homage to a famed chronograph style of the 1960s and 1970s. The brand specifically calls out the triple registers, square-foot indexes and arrow-tip chronograph hand. It does not name Rolex or the Daytona in that description. Gevril’s account of the Tribeca therefore supports calling it a period-style homage; identifying the Daytona as the reference is an interpretation based on the resemblance.
The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 6239 provides a useful historical point of comparison. Hodinkee describes the 6239 as launching in 1963, with contrasting subdials and a tachymeter bezel—features that help explain why the Tribeca is often discussed alongside early Daytonas. The history of the first Daytona and Hodinkee’s Daytona reference overview provide context, not proof of a direct design or manufacturing relationship.
2. The 37 mm case recalls the vintage scale
Gevril specifies a 37 mm case for the Tribeca. Hodinkee also gives 37 mm for the Rolex 6239 in its reference overview. That shared stated diameter is a concrete point of similarity, but it does not establish identical proportions, fit or dimensions across every production example. Case shape, lug geometry and the way a watch wears still matter.

3. Dial and bezel variations deliver the vintage cues
The Tribeca was offered in several configurations, so its appearance depends on the specific variant. Gevril documents panda and reverse-panda dial combinations as well as champagne variants, alongside a tachymeter bezel and hesalite (acrylic) crystal. Contrasting subdials and a tachymeter bezel also feature in accounts of the early Daytona 6239, but the Tribeca’s multiple dial and case options mean there is no single configuration that represents the entire collection.
When evaluating a particular watch, check the dial and bezel together rather than relying on a listing’s generic “Tribeca” label. The crystal material and case finish are also part of the individual configuration to verify against the example being offered.

4. Limited editions and practical case details add collector appeal
Gevril says each steel variant was limited to 500 pieces and each gold variant to 100, with watches individually numbered. The brand also lists through-drilled lugs, a solid caseback, fluted screw-down pushers and crown, and water resistance of 330 feet. These are maker-published specifications; they should not be treated as independent test results or as evidence that every surviving watch retains its original condition.
Through-drilled lugs can make strap or bracelet changes easier, but Gevril’s description does not state a lug width or prescribe a particular tool. Confirm the fit of any replacement strap or bracelet for the exact watch before buying. Limited production helps explain collector interest, but by itself says nothing reliable about future value.

5. The movement is not a Daytona movement
The Tribeca’s mechanical approach distinguishes it from the 6239 beneath the vintage-inspired appearance. Gevril specifies an automatic construction with 51 jewels, using an ETA 2824 base and a Dubois & Dépraz 2020 chronograph module. Hodinkee describes the Rolex 6239 as manually wound, using Rolex caliber 722 based on the Valjoux 72. These are different movement architectures and winding methods; visual homage does not mean the original mechanism was reproduced.

Gevril says the Tribeca collection is discontinued and points readers toward auction sites. The cited sources do not establish current availability or prices, so treat any listing as a claim about one particular watch, not a reliable statement of the market.

- Confirm the exact dial and case variant against clear photographs and the seller’s description.
- Ask about service history, operation of the chronograph, and the condition of the hesalite crystal, case and pushers.
- Check that the serial or individual numbering and any included documentation are consistent with the specific example; Gevril says the limited watches were individually numbered.
- Assess water resistance independently before exposing an older watch to water. A maker-published original specification does not establish a present-day watch’s sealing condition.
