If you want an Evolution 9 with a blue dial and a high-intensity titanium case, the SLGH019 deserves a place on your shortlist. If the appeal of the birch models is their forest-inspired texture, the official descriptions give no reason to dismiss them.
Why the SLGH019 changes the conversation
Grand Seiko frames the SLGH019 around winter views of Mount Iwate. Its dial is blue, inspired by the night sky above the mountain—not a variation on the white-birch motif. That distinction matters if the birch designs have begun to feel familiar. The SLGH019 changes the visual reference and color while remaining an Evolution 9 watch. It makes a case for broadening the choice, rather than declaring the White Birch or Night Birch obsolete.

Grand Seiko Boutique Online Japan lists a 40.0 mm case diameter, 47.0 mm lug-to-lug, 11.7 mm thickness, and 22 mm band width for the SLGH019. The case is high-intensity titanium. These are listed dimensions, not a guarantee of how the watch will wear on an individual wrist. A 22 mm band width can help when looking at straps, but width alone does not establish end-link, clasp, or overall fit compatibility.
Movement, reserve, and water resistance
The Japanese boutique listing specifies automatic caliber 9SA5, a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, an approximate power reserve of 80 hours, and 10 bar water resistance. It lists static accuracy of +5/-3 seconds per day and normal-use accuracy of +8/-1 seconds per day, while cautioning that actual performance varies with use conditions. Those figures are the listing’s stated ranges, not a promise that every watch will maintain a particular daily rate.

Which dial should you choose?
- Choose the SLGH019 if the blue Mount Iwate concept is the one you want, or if high-intensity titanium is a priority based on the listed case material.
- Choose the SLGH005 if the white-birch-forest inspiration is the main attraction and you prefer its white-dial concept.
- Consider the SLGH017 if you want the Night Birch interpretation: a black dial tied to the same forest inspiration and an Evolution 9 design Grand Seiko says it shares with the SLGH005.
