The Largest Watch Brands in 2025: Rolex Leads by a Wide Margin

Vontobel’s estimates put Rolex far ahead of competitors in 2025 sales, but the figures are estimates and should not be confused with export statistics or a separate wholesale-revenue ranking.

By estimated 2025 sales, Rolex remained the largest watch brand by a substantial margin. Vontobel’s estimates put Rolex above CHF 10 billion—roughly equal to the combined sales of the next five competitors. Those figures are analyst estimates, not a complete audited ranking of brand results.

What “largest” means in this ranking

The ranking discussed here uses Vontobel estimates of brand sales for 2025. It does not rank brands by watches sold, popularity, resale activity, or Swiss export value. Most brands do not publish standalone financial results, so the figures should be read as estimates rather than reported accounts. Monochrome Watches’ February 16, 2026 report on Vontobel’s estimates describes the top ten but the available chart details do not establish every entry and position; it would be misleading to fill in missing ranks from another report.

What the estimates say about the leaders

Vontobel’s estimates, as reported by Hodinkee on February 12, 2026, put Rolex close to CHF 10.5 billion in 2025 sales, Cartier at about CHF 3.4 billion, and Audemars Piguet at about CHF 2.4 billion. These are estimates for the year, not figures disclosed as audited standalone brand results. The broader Monochrome account likewise puts Rolex above CHF 10 billion and says its estimated sales matched those of the next five competitors combined.

The same Vontobel estimates put Rolex Certified Pre-Owned sales at CHF 500 million in 2025. That is an estimate for the program, not a measure of the entire pre-owned Rolex market.

A concentrated market, but not uniform growth

Vontobel’s account describes a highly concentrated premium segment: it estimates that the top ten brands represent nearly 70% of export volumes for watches above CHF 500, and that concentration exceeds 80% above CHF 3,000. Vontobel characterizes the direction as “the industry is becoming increasingly oligopolistic.” These thresholds describe premium export volumes, not shares of all global watch retail sales.

Concentration does not mean every leading brand is growing. The report describes volume pressure in the core Swiss luxury-watch segment above CHF 3,000, while watches priced above CHF 20,000 gained pieces over the period discussed. It names Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Richard Mille, and Cartier among the handful of brands that maintained or grew volumes. Rolex’s sales lead therefore should not be taken as evidence that the whole sector expanded.

Why Swiss export statistics do not settle brand rankings

The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry FH cautions that its statistics are based on export figures, not sales to end consumers, and cannot isolate the business trend of an individual brand or group. Its statistics page explains the scope: export value is not the same measure as brand turnover, wholesale revenue, retail share, or unit sales. Export data can describe the Swiss watch trade, but it cannot independently verify a league table of brand sales.

Why another 2025 top-ten list may differ

A separate Morgan Stanley/LuxeConsult ranking estimates wholesale revenue rather than using the Vontobel sales estimates described above. A summary by WatchesOff5th gives that report’s Rolex estimate as CHF 11.0 billion and Cartier’s as CHF 3.5 billion, and lists its own top ten. Those numbers and positions belong to a different report and methodology; they should not be combined with Vontobel’s estimates to reconstruct the Vontobel chart.

When two rankings disagree, check the measure (estimated sales, wholesale revenue, retail share, unit volume, or export value), the period and currency, the price segment covered, and whether the figures come from company disclosures or analyst estimates. Without those distinctions, “largest” can make unlike figures appear directly comparable.
