Its titanium case and Oyster bracelet give the familiar 42 mm Yacht-Master a more technical, less glossy expression, while the black Cerachrom bezel and calibre 3235 preserve its recognizable layout and mechanical foundation. Whether that makes it more compelling depends on whether you want this particular material and configuration; the case for relevance is practical and aesthetic, not a proven claim about sales, sailing performance, or market value.
What changed on the titanium Yacht-Master 42?
Rolex’s reference 226627 combines an RLX titanium case with a matching RLX titanium Oyster bracelet. It retains the Yacht-Master’s bidirectional timing bezel, with a matt black Cerachrom ceramic insert, and an intense black dial. The result is a recognizable Yacht-Master 42 in a different material execution, rather than a new design language. Rolex’s reference page lists the watch at 42 mm.
The distinction matters because the bracelet is titanium too: this is not simply a titanium case paired with a different bracelet material. The collection page says the titanium bracelet uses ceramic inserts around the pins inside the links, intended to help prevent premature wear and enhance flexibility. It also has Rolex’s Easylink comfort extension link, which provides approximately 5 mm of adjustment. Those are Rolex’s stated construction details, not independent durability or comfort test results. Rolex’s Yacht-Master collection overview describes the bracelet.
Why the material shift is the point
Rolex describes RLX titanium as particularly lightweight, mechanically strong, and corrosion resistant. The brand also says the watch combines polished and technical satin finishes. That mix gives the 226627 a more technical, lower-gloss character than a precious-metal configuration, while the black bezel and dial keep it visually restrained. These are Rolex’s material and design descriptions; the sources do not provide an independently measured weight, a direct comparison with steel or gold, or a third-party finishing assessment. “Brings relevance” is therefore best understood as an argument about fit: a familiar sports-watch format is offered in a material Rolex presents as light, strong, and corrosion resistant. It may appeal to someone who wants those qualities and a less overtly precious-metal look. The available specifications cannot determine whether an individual wearer will find it more comfortable, more desirable, or better suited to actual sailing.
What remains familiar: bezel, movement, and everyday specification
The 226627 keeps the Yacht-Master’s bidirectional rotatable 60-minute bezel. Rolex specifies a matt black Cerachrom insert with polished raised numerals and graduations. The case is an Oyster construction with a monobloc middle case, screw-down case back, and winding crown; the crown uses a Triplock triple-waterproofness system. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal has a Cyclops lens over the date. Rolex rates water resistance at 100 metres (330 feet). These are manufacturer specifications, not a claim that the watch has been independently tested here for any particular activity. The product page gives the reference-specific details.

Inside is Rolex calibre 3235, a self-winding mechanical movement. Rolex lists centre hour, minute, and seconds hands; an instantaneous date with rapid setting; and stop-seconds for precise time setting. The movement has a blue Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers. Rolex states approximately 70 hours of power reserve and precision of −2/+2 seconds per day after casing. Those figures are the manufacturer’s published specifications, not independent timing results for a particular watch.
How it fits into the Yacht-Master range
The collection is not one uniform specification. Rolex describes Yacht-Master models in 37, 40, and 42 mm sizes, with calibres 2236 and 3235 across the range and a mix of materials and bracelet types. The 226627’s combination is specific: 42 mm, RLX titanium case and Oyster bracelet, black Cerachrom bezel insert, and calibre 3235. A different size or precious-metal reference should not be assumed to share all of those details. The collection overview distinguishes the broader range.

The clearest contrast is with the 42 mm gold Yacht-Master models on Oysterflex. The titanium reference has an RLX titanium Oyster bracelet and Cerachrom insert. Rolex describes Oysterflex as flexible metal blades overmoulded with high-performance elastomer; it is a different bracelet construction and a different material presentation, not a simple quality ranking. The relevant choice is whether you prefer a full titanium bracelet and the 226627’s subdued technical look, or the gold models’ precious-metal case and Oysterflex configuration. Rolex’s product and collection pages describe those alternatives.

The 226627 is most relevant to a buyer who already likes the Yacht-Master’s 42 mm proportions and bezel-dial arrangement, but prefers a titanium case-and-bracelet configuration to the range’s other material and bracelet executions. The manufacturer’s description of RLX titanium offers a reason to consider the material, but it does not substitute for trying the watch on if weight, fit, or finish is central to the decision.

- Compare other Yacht-Masters if you want a different case size, precious-metal material, or bracelet construction. The range includes 37 and 40 mm options as well as 42 mm models, and not all share the same movement or configuration.
- Do not treat “suited to competitive sailing” as a verified performance result. Rolex uses that positioning, but the available material does not establish a competition test or comparative sailing advantage.
Buying and service: use Rolex’s authorized channel guidance
Rolex says only Official Rolex Jewelers are allowed to sell and maintain its watches. It says these jewelers have the skills, technical knowledge, and special equipment to help ensure authenticity of parts and assist customers with a choice. For a specific purchase or service, verify the retailer’s status through Rolex rather than assuming that a marketplace listing is authorized. Rolex states this guidance in its collection information.
