What is the hand-hammered G-SHOCK MR-G?
It is the MRG-B5000HT-1, a premium MR-G model based on the square G-SHOCK design. Casio announced it on July 24, 2025, as a limited edition of 500 pieces worldwide. The individual hand-hammering is on the titanium bezel and bracelet, not every component of the watch.
Casio’s launch announcement names Kazuya Watanabe, a Japanese tsuiki artisan, as the craftsperson behind the work. The surface is not simply a uniform machine-applied texture: Casio says the chisel tip and the force of each hammer blow shape the pattern.
What does tsuiki mean on this watch?
Casio defines tsuiki as “A forging technique in which a metal plate is hammered to create a three-dimensional shape”. On the MRG-B5000HT, the technique gives the bezel and bracelet a relief-like hammered finish. Casio says Watanabe used his fluctuating “yuragi” technique, with variations in blows and force creating a distinctive surface and making the pieces unlike one another.

Watanabe was born in 1978 in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture. According to Casio’s biography, he studied Arts and Crafts Design at Nagaoka Institute of Design, joined the historic copperware maker Gyokusendo after graduating in 2001, and established his own forge in 2005. These details and the description of the technique come from Casio’s announcement; no direct statement from Watanabe is included in the cited materials.
Materials and construction
The hammered bezel and bracelet use DAT55G, a special titanium alloy developed in Japan. Casio says DAT55G is three times harder than pure titanium. The components receive a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating, which Casio says is intended to improve scratch and abrasion resistance. The case also has a DLC coating.

Casio lists a multi-guard structure, with buffers placed between bezel components to support shock resistance. The case is constructed from 25 separate components. The distinctive exterior therefore combines artisan finishing with a carefully assembled shock-resistant case rather than relying on the hammered surface as its protection.

These specifications are listed on Casio’s MRG-B5000HT-1 product page. The artisan treatment distinguishes the exterior, while the listed functions remain those of a feature-rich G-SHOCK.
How the watch fits into MR-G’s artisan series
The MRG-B5000HT is part of a longer MR-G effort to express Japanese techniques and design through limited models. In a corporate interview, Casio says this series of releases dates to 2015 and identifies the 2016 MRG-G1000HT as its first collaboration with a tsuiki craftsman. The 2025 model is a collaboration with Watanabe, not the first G-SHOCK to use tsuiki.

The historical context comes from Casio’s July 30, 2025 interview with MR-G planner Shingo Ishizaka. Casio flags the English version as automatically translated, so its series history is best treated as the company’s account rather than an independent assessment.
