Timex’s $1 offer was a limited promotion for a specific 170th Anniversary Edition Waterbury watch—not a standing price for Timex watches. Announced on October 21, 2024, the quartz wristwatch was limited to 1,000 pieces worldwide and scheduled to go on sale for $1 each on November 16, 2024. Timex has not established that the special edition is still available.
What was the Timex $1 watch?
It was a commemorative version of the Waterbury, Timex’s wristwatch collection. Timex announced the 170th Anniversary Edition on October 21, 2024, with a planned November 16 launch and a global run of 1,000 watches. The $1 price applied to that limited promotion; it did not mean that Timex’s regular watches were being sold for a dollar.
Timex said the watches would be available through participating retailers and listed these launch details for its regional websites:
- Timex.com in the United States and Timex.ca: 10 a.m. Eastern / 7 a.m. Pacific
- Timex.co.uk: 10 a.m. GMT
- Timex.eu: 10 a.m. CET
- shop.timexindia.com: 10 a.m. IST
Those were the announced times for the November 2024 release, not current availability information. Timex’s announcement contains the original promotion details.

What were its specifications?
According to Timex’s published description, the anniversary Waterbury had a quartz movement, a 40 mm brushed and polished stainless-steel case, and an ice-white glossy dial bearing the 170th Anniversary Edition logo. It also featured lacquered Roman numeral markers, retro-style hands with luminescent in-fill, a day-and-date window at 3 o’clock, and an anti-glare mineral-glass crystal.
The watch came with a Cordovan-brown English leather strap using quick-release spring bars. Timex described the caseback as vertically brushed and engraved for the anniversary. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent test results.

Why did Timex price it at $1?
Timex connected the promotion to its account of the Yankee pocket watch, an earlier dollar watch. In the company’s historical account, the Yankee cost one dollar in 1895, and “over six million” had reached everyday Americans by the turn of the century. Timex called it “the watch that made the dollar famous.” Those historical claims and that phrase are Timex’s own, rather than independently audited findings.
Time+Tide Watches’ October 26, 2024 coverage described this as the second time Timex had sold watches for $1 and reported a usual retail price of US$119 for the anniversary model. That US$119 figure is the publication’s report, not the price stated in Timex’s announcement.

Can you still buy the Timex $1 watch?
The announced $1 release date was November 16, 2024, so the promotion is historical. The available information does not confirm current stock of the anniversary edition or its availability on the secondary market. Do not assume that a listing for a Waterbury watch—or a price shown by a reseller—is for the $1 anniversary promotion.
Timex’s current Waterbury collection page lists the broader collection, but it does not establish that the limited anniversary model remains for sale. Check any retailer listing carefully for the exact model and edition; current Waterbury models are not thereby $1 watches.
