TUDOR says the Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition” was developed with its Pro Cycling Team riders as a chronograph built to withstand professional cycling and serve as a tool on the road. Its defining cycling feature is a spiral tachymeter intended to make average speeds in a cyclist’s range easier to read. That is the brand’s design rationale, not a verified result from an independent riding test.
What makes the Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition” different?
TUDOR describes the watch as a purpose-designed chronograph, not simply a standard Pelagos with team colors. The company says the project began with a brief from TUDOR Pro Cycling Team riders: “Develop a watch that could not only stand up to the rigors of professional cycling, but that could also be a useful tool on the road.” This is TUDOR’s own account of the brief, rather than a statement from a named rider.

The most sport-specific design element is the cycling-oriented tachymeter. A conventional tachymeter uses elapsed time over a known distance to indicate average speed. TUDOR says this model’s scale is calibrated around speeds cyclists can sustain and arranged in a spiral to make average speed readable at a glance. The intended use is clear; whether it is easy to read while riding has not been independently established.
Case, dial and strap
The case measures 43 mm and is made of matte-finished black carbon composite, with fixed strap bars. TUDOR says titanium is used for other case elements to help make the construction lightweight and robust. The dial is matte black with red accents, luminescent ceramic-composite hour markers and the brand’s Snowflake hands; TUDOR presents these choices as legibility-focused.

A 22 mm black jacquard-woven technical-fabric strap with a traditional buckle completes the watch. TUDOR says the strap was developed with Julien Faure and woven in France.
Movement and stated performance
The watch uses TUDOR Manufacture Calibre MT5813, an automatic chronograph movement with a date, silicon balance spring, column wheel and vertical clutch. TUDOR says the movement is COSC-certified and has a 70-hour power reserve. The brand also says the MT5813 is derived from the Breitling 01 chronograph, with a high-precision regulating organ developed by TUDOR and exclusive finishes.

- Featuring a Blue Band, Black Case, Scratch Resistant Sapphire Crystal
- Display Type: Analog
- Item Shape: Round
TUDOR states that each fully assembled chronograph is tested to a performance of -2 and +4 seconds per day, which the company says exceeds COSC standards. That is a manufacturer specification, not an independently measured result for this article.
What role do watches play in professional cycling?
Watches occupy more than one place in the sport, and those roles should not be conflated. In this model, TUDOR proposes a mechanical watch as a functional road tool, chiefly through its cycling-calibrated tachymeter. The team relationship also makes the watch part of the brand’s sponsorship presence: TUDOR links its Pro Cycling Team to major races, including the Giro d’Italia from 2024. That context does not establish that every team rider wears this watch in competition.

Watches also appear as personal and cultural objects around cycling, including collecting, sponsorship and race-event visibility. In a 10 July 2026 feature, Cyclingnews writer Matthias Bayer highlighted luxury watches seen around the Tour de France. Those individual examples illustrate watch culture around the sport; they are not a representative survey of what professional cyclists wear while racing, or how common watches are among them.
Is it a practical cycling tool?
The manufacturer’s proposition is specific: carbon composite for a lightweight, robust construction; dial details intended to aid legibility; and a tachymeter aimed at average speeds relevant to cycling. Together, these make the watch’s design purpose more than a colorway. But a mechanical tachymeter is not the same thing as a bike computer: it does not, on the evidence available here, provide live speed, route guidance or cycling data beyond the chronograph-and-scale concept.

- Date Feature at 3 O'Clock with Even Numbered Days Displayed in Red and Odd Numbered Days in Black
- Tudor Caliber MT5612-LHD (COSC), Self-winding Automatic Chronometer Movement
- Titanium Screw Down Crown, Helium Escape Valve at 3 O'Clock and 70 Hour Power Reserve
- Titanium Bracelet with Steel Folding Clasp and Safety Catch and Bracelet Extension System
- Titanium Unidirectional Rotatable Bezel with Ceramic Matte Black Disc and 60 Minute Scale with Beige Luminescent Coating
No independent riding assessment establishes how readily the dial can be read in motion, how the watch performs through professional race conditions, or how its utility compares with a bike computer or smartwatch. The sound conclusion is narrower: TUDOR has made cycling-specific design choices and explains their intended purpose, while real-world usefulness remains unverified independently.
