What makes the UR-T8 different?
URWERK introduced the UR-T8 for the brand’s 20th anniversary as its first “transformable watch,” according to its brand history. Rather than using a conventional fixed dial, the watch combines URWERK’s satellite-hour display with a reversible case. Turn the case one way to show the time; turn it over to hide the display behind the caseback.
The concept is more than a decorative cover: the case physically pivots out of its cradle and rotates. That gives the wearer two distinct presentations, but it also makes the UR-T8 a large, mechanically elaborate object rather than a discreet everyday watch.

How to read the satellite display
The UR-T8 does not present the hours on a conventional central hour hand. URWERK describes satellite hour modules mounted on planetary gears. Each arm of the mechanism supports a carousel bearing four hour numerals, according to the brand’s history.
Monochrome’s 2017 review explains the reading sequence: a three-arm carousel carries the hour modules, and the currently active hour travels along a 60-minute scale. As that hour passes, the hidden modules rotate into position to prepare the next one. Planetary gearing keeps the numerals horizontal as they move. This is a distinctive way to display time, but it asks the wearer to follow a moving hour indicator rather than glance at familiar hands.

How the case flips
Monochrome’s account of the mechanism describes squeezing the side buttons to release the case, lifting it vertically from its cradle, turning it 180 degrees, and clicking it back into place. In one orientation, the display is visible; in the other, the caseback faces outward and the display is concealed. This is a description of the published operating method, not a claim of independent testing.
The reversible case is the UR-T8’s defining feature, but it has a practical trade-off: its appeal depends on enjoying the act and visual effect of transforming the watch. If the priority is the quickest possible time reading or a slim, low-profile case, the defining design choices may be drawbacks.

What do the dimensions and 3 ATM rating mean?
At 60.23 × 48.35 mm and 20.02 mm thick, the UR-T8 has a substantial footprint and height. Those are manufacturer-published measurements, not independent measurements. Buyers should consider how a case of that size sits on their wrist and whether its thickness works with their usual cuffs.
URWERK lists water resistance as 3 ATM. Treat that as a limited rating, not evidence that the watch is suitable for swimming or diving. The cited specification does not provide an independent test result or additional activity guidance.

UR-T8 price: what is actually documented?
Monochrome’s review, dated February 24, 2017, reported a launch-era price of CHF 100,000 before taxes and an initial series of 60 watches in two versions. The Foundation Haute Horlogerie listing also gives an indicated price of CHF 100,000, but does not establish when that figure applied or whether the watch is currently available.
These sources do not establish a current retail price, current stock, variant-specific pricing or secondary-market value. The CHF 100,000 figure should therefore be read as historical pricing context, not as a current asking price or market valuation.

Review verdict: who is the UR-T8 for?
The UR-T8 is most compelling for someone who values unusual mechanical time displays and wants a watch whose case itself is part of the experience. Its satellite hours make time reading visually engaging, while the reversible construction adds a second, deliberately concealed mode. Grade 5 titanium and the UR 8.01 self-winding calibre anchor that design in a serious mechanical watch.
It is a less obvious fit for someone seeking a compact case, conventional dial legibility, or an established current price and availability picture. The published specifications and the 2017 launch report explain what the UR-T8 is; they do not establish what a buyer should expect to pay today.
