What is the Overseas Chronograph 5500V?
The 5500V is a reference family in the redesigned Overseas generation. Its combination of an integrated-bracelet sports-watch case and a mechanical chronograph makes it a substantial, versatile option, but “5500V” alone does not identify every detail: the family includes steel and precious-metal configurations, and dial and accessory packages vary. The documented steel panda-dial reference is 5500V/110A-B686. A 2026 review catalogs multiple 5500V configurations, while the brand’s current US listing is for the successor 5520V/210A-B148—not the 5500V. 5500V dimensions and water resistance
For the steel 5500V/110A-B686 panda version, Time and Watches reports a 42.5 mm case diameter, 13.7 mm thickness and 15 bar (approximately 150 m) water resistance. These are specifications for that cited variant, not a guarantee that every 5500V configuration has identical dimensions. See the 2023 report on the 5500V/110A-B686.
The 42.5 mm diameter gives the watch a conspicuous presence; case thickness and overall fit are also worth considering in person, especially if you usually wear slimmer watches. A 2026 review discusses wearing impressions, but those are the reviewer’s subjective observations rather than a controlled fit test or a universal assessment.

The reported 150 m rating is a specification, not a recommendation to take any individual pre-owned watch swimming. Water resistance can depend on the watch’s condition and service history. Have its condition checked before relying on that rating.
Calibre 5200: the 5500V’s chronograph movement
The 5500V/110A-B686 report identifies the automatic Calibre 5200 as a column-wheel chronograph with a vertical clutch. The column wheel controls the chronograph functions; the vertical clutch couples the chronograph mechanism to the movement. This is the movement architecture reported for the cited 5500V variant.

Vacheron Constantin’s current 5520V page provides further Calibre 5200 specifications: a 52-hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). It also lists a date, small seconds, chronograph counters for up to 30 minutes and 12 hours, 263 components and 54 jewels. These are figures published for the current 5520V’s Calibre 5200; they should not be treated as a complete, independently verified specification sheet for every 5500V execution. The brand’s 5520V page is the source for those movement details.
Bracelet and interchangeable straps
The 5500V/110A-B686 panda report describes a steel bracelet, leather strap and rubber strap, with tool-free interchangeability. That gives the documented version a useful change of character: the bracelet suits a more formal or integrated look, while the other materials offer alternatives for different occasions.

Do not assume every listing includes all three options. Sellers may offer a watch with only the bracelet or with an incomplete accessory set, and compatibility should be confirmed for the exact reference before buying additional straps. Ask for clear photographs and a written inventory of everything included. Vacheron Constantin’s current 5520V page also describes interchangeable steel, leather and rubber options, but that current-model listing does not establish what accompanies a particular 5500V.
5500V vs. 5520V: what changed?
The references are related, but the 5520V is not simply another name for the 5500V. The current US product page presents the steel 5520V/210A-B148. It lists a 42.5 mm diameter and 12.67 mm thickness, compared with the 13.7 mm thickness reported for the steel 5500V/110A-B686 panda variant. The thickness figures come from different references and sources, so the comparison is specific to those cited steel examples.

The available sources do not establish a current retail price, current market valuation or verified availability for the 5500V. Time and Watches reported CHF 32,500 for the 5500V/110A-B686 in its February 2023 article; that is a historical, market-specific price, not a current quote. Before committing to a particular 5500V, verify the watch as a specific configuration rather than relying on a generic model name:
- Complete reference and dial: confirm the reference number and that the photographed dial matches the seller’s description.
- Case material: establish whether it is steel or a precious-metal version.
- Included accessories: confirm whether the bracelet, leather strap, rubber strap, tools and any other stated items are actually included.
- Condition and service: request service documentation and ask about the watch’s condition, particularly before relying on water resistance.
- Seller and provenance: assess the seller’s reliability and request clear photographs and documentation for the specific watch.
- Reference identity: make sure the listing is for a 5500V, not the newer 5520V.
These checks are practical precautions for comparing variant-specific listings, not a manufacturer-issued inspection checklist.
Who should consider the 5500V?
The 5500V is worth considering if you want a high-end Overseas chronograph with an automatic column-wheel, vertical-clutch movement and, in the documented steel panda version, multiple interchangeable wearing options. Its 42.5 mm case and reported 13.7 mm thickness are meaningful fit considerations, so try the exact configuration on wrist if possible. Buyers who want the latest reference shown by the brand should compare the current 5520V separately rather than assuming it shares every measurement or accessory detail with a 5500V.
