The black-dial Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time reviewed here is reference 7900V/110A-B546, a 41 mm steel travel watch from the 2019 era. Its central appeal is practical: local time can be adjusted while a red-tipped hand keeps home time visible, with a day/night display to clarify whether home is in the morning or evening. It also offers 150 m water resistance and a 60-hour power reserve. Keep this reference distinct from the current black-dial successor, 7920V/210A-B546; the successor’s specifications and price are not the older watch’s.
What the 7900V/110A-B546 does
The Overseas Dual Time is built for tracking two time zones without losing sight of the date. The main hands show local time; a separate red-tipped hand indicates reference, or home, time. A day/night indicator corresponds to that reference time, and the date is synchronized with local time. Monochrome’s 2019 hands-on review describes the combination as a useful travel complication, while noting that the AM/PM display is prominent and horizontally oriented near the 9 o’clock marker.
The black lacquer dial gives the watch a more restrained appearance than a bright dial, but the 41 mm case still has substantial wrist presence. Reviewer Rebecca Doulton observed that the black dial can make the watch look more compact than lighter versions. That is her impression, not a measured difference in case size.

How the time-zone setting works
The central crown winds the watch and sets local and reference time. A screw-lock push-piece at 4 o’clock operates the date. The red-tipped reference-time hand and its AM/PM indicator help distinguish home time from local time, but setting local time is done at the crown rather than with dedicated pushers that advance it in one-hour increments. Doulton found that approach less intuitive than incremental pushers; this is a reviewer’s usability judgment, not a defect claim.
Date correction
The date mechanism accounts for 31-day months. After a shorter month, the date needs manual correction using the date push-piece. Because the date follows local time, check it after changing time zones as well.
Wearability, resistance, and strap options
For a travel watch, the 150 m water-resistance rating and 60-hour reserve are useful practical specifications alongside the dual-time display. Monochrome’s reviewer also praised the finishing and adaptable strap system. The 41 mm diameter and 12.8 mm thickness give the 7900V a substantial profile; whether it feels too large depends on wrist and preference.
The 2019-era package was described as including a steel bracelet, black rubber strap, and black alligator strap. Confirm the contents for the exact reference, market, and individual sale: a pre-owned watch may no longer have every original component. Vacheron Constantin’s interchangeable system is specific to its design, so do not assume a generic strap will fit.

7900V price: historical launch figures, not a current quote

A current US retail price or dependable transaction range for the exact legacy black-dial reference is not established here. When evaluating a listing, verify the full reference, condition, provenance, box and papers, service record, seller location, tax treatment, and whether the figure is an asking price or a completed sale. A listing for the blue-dial sibling reference 7900V/110A-B334 is not a price quote for the black-dial watch.

Vacheron Constantin’s UK product page identifies 7920V/210A-B546 as the current black-dial successor. It lists a 41 mm steel case measuring 12 mm thick, 150 m water resistance, anti-magnetism, and calibre 5110 DT/2, with 234 parts, 37 jewels, a 60-hour reserve, and 4 Hz frequency. Its black-lacquer dial is described as having a sunburst satin-finished base and velvet-finished minute track, with a date at 6 o’clock and red 18K gold dual-time hands.
The official UK page showed £30,700 including UK tax when accessed on 8 October 2026. That is a regional listing for the successor, not the 7900V. The same page lists steel, rubber, and grained black calfskin options; those should not be confused with the older package’s reported black alligator strap. Check the official Vacheron Constantin UK listing for current successor details and regional availability.

Who should consider the 7900V
The 7900V suits someone who wants a mechanically sophisticated travel watch with a clear home-time reference, substantial water resistance, and a long reserve, and who is comfortable setting local time through the crown. The key points to assess in person or in listing photographs are the size and wrist presence, legibility of the day/night indicator, condition of the case and bracelet, and whether the watch comes with the expected straps and documentation. Treat the model’s historical launch price separately from the value of any specific example.
