The Vulcain Cricket Nautical pairs a hand-wound mechanical alarm with a rotating dive-time dial and vintage decompression markings. The 2023 re-edition was announced with a 42.20mm steel case, 300m stated water resistance and a launch price from CHF 4,200. Vulcain now lists several Nautical Heritage variants, so the price and specifications depend on the exact reference and crystal.
What is the Vulcain Cricket Nautical?
It is a modern revival of Vulcain’s alarm-equipped Nautical, combining a mechanical alarm with a dial intended to track elapsed dive time and show decompression-stop information. Monochrome Watches introduced the re-edition on July 12, 2023, reporting that it would be available from September 21, 2023. The article described it as part of Vulcain’s permanent collection at launch; that does not establish current stock of the same configuration.
The watch draws on two milestones in Vulcain’s history: the company dates the Cricket alarm watch to 1947 and the Nautical to 1961. Vulcain’s historical account associates Hannes Keller, Max-Yves Brandily and Arthur Droz with the Nautical’s development. The manufacturer also recounts that Keller wore a Cricket Nautical during a dive near Toulon to nearly 250 meters on November 3, 1966. That depth is part of Vulcain’s historical account, not an independent test of the present re-edition.

These figures describe the configuration in the 2023 launch story. A current product page may describe a different Nautical Heritage variant. For example, Vulcain’s Full Black page lists a 42mm case, 30 ATM/300m water resistance, a 52-hour power reserve and a ringing time of 20 seconds +/- 5 seconds. Those details belong to that listed variant, not automatically to every Nautical Heritage configuration.

How the alarm and rotating dial work
The Cricket V-10 is hand-wound and uses twin barrels, separating the energy supply for timekeeping from that for the alarm. The caseback is designed to help the alarm resonate. Vulcain describes the “Triple Case Back” as a resonance chamber that allows the alarm to be used underwater, and its product page also refers to a sapphire-crystal version embellished with the stylized Vulcain “V”.
A crown at 4 o’clock turns the inner dial. Its layered markings let the wearer track elapsed time, while the dial also carries decompression-stop information at 9, 6 and 3 meters. The alarm is set before a dive as an audible elapsed-time cue; it is not a substitute for a dive computer, current dive tables, training or a dive plan.

The decompression markings are historical, not current dive guidance
The Nautical’s unusual dial is a mechanical display of older decompression protocols. Monochrome notes that those protocols are not necessarily aligned with contemporary standards. Treat the markings as part of the watch’s historical design and functionality, not as instructions for planning or conducting a dive. No independent dive-performance testing of the re-edition is established by the available source accounts.
Vulcain Cricket Nautical price and current availability
Monochrome reported a launch price from CHF 4,200 in 2023. As of October 4, 2026, Vulcain’s Nautical Heritage collection page lists variants starting at CHF 4,200, while an authorized retailer lists the Black & White Plexi 42mm at CHF 4,200. These are access-date snapshots; they do not prove that every variant is in stock or that the current models match the sapphire-crystal watch in the 2023 launch story. Check the precise reference, crystal and seller before comparing prices.

How the re-edition differs from a vintage Cricket Nautical
Vintage watches are individual examples, not interchangeable versions of the modern Heritage line. Phillips catalogs a circa-1970 Cricket Nautical, reference S 2322 B, with a 42mm case and mechanical alarm. That catalog entry does not establish that all vintage examples share those details, or that they have the re-edition’s materials, water resistance or movement specifications.

- Whether the rotating dial and decompression markings are present and functional
- Price, seller, condition, service history and provenance
For a vintage purchase in particular, a historical water-resistance rating is not evidence that an aged watch remains safe for immersion. The condition of its seals and case must be assessed for that specific example.
