Its distinctive city-name bezel offers a different way to read other time zones than a conventional GMT watch, while a stated 80-hour power reserve and two included straps broaden its everyday appeal. This is a specifications-based review, not a report from handling or testing the watch.
What the Rado Captain Cook Over-Pole is
Rado introduced the stainless-steel R32116158 in 2022 as a modern interpretation of its Over-Pole world-time watch. The edition is limited to 1,962 numbered examples. Its defining feature is a bidirectional bezel engraved with city names, paired with a 24-hour scale on the dial. Rather than using a separate, independently adjustable GMT hand, it uses the position of the chosen local-time city to help read the time in other zones.
This review is specifically about the 37 mm R32116158. Rado announced a separate 39 mm Over-Pole edition in 2025, reference R32193018. That model has a yellow-gold-coloured PVD case and bracelet; its size, finish, and price should not be confused with those of the 2022 steel watch. Rado’s US product page for the 39 mm model lists it at $3,200.
Case size, materials, and dial
The polished stainless-steel case measures 37 mm across, 43.1 mm from lug to lug, and 10.3 mm thick. Those figures point to a relatively compact profile on paper, but individual fit depends on wrist shape and preference; the dimensions alone cannot establish how it will wear on you.

A box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating sits above a silver-to-black gradient dial. Applied markers, luminous hands, and luminous 24-hour markers provide the time display, while the date is shown in red numerals. The black high-tech ceramic bezel insert carries engraved city names and rotates in both directions.
How the world-time bezel works
To use the world-time display, set the city that represents your local time against the 24-hour scale. The positions of the other city names then indicate approximate times in their respective zones. This is a city-bezel world-time arrangement, not a separate GMT hand that can be adjusted independently to track a second time zone.

The layout is suited to a quick overview of several city-based time zones. If you need a watch that makes a second time zone especially prominent or allows it to be set independently, look for a conventional GMT mechanism instead. The bezel approach also depends on the city and 24-hour indications being legible to you at a glance.
Movement and winding
Inside is Rado calibre R862, a manual-winding movement with 17 jewels and a Nivachron balance spring. Rado’s stated power reserve is 80 hours. The functions are hours, minutes, seconds, and date.

Manual winding is a meaningful ownership choice: you wind the watch rather than relying on wrist motion to keep an automatic movement running. The 80-hour reserve gives some flexibility if you take it off, but actual running time and accuracy should not be inferred from the reserve specification. No independent accuracy or handling test is established here.
Straps, bracelet, and water resistance
The supplied set is described as including a brown vintage-style leather strap and a stainless-steel beads-of-rice bracelet. Both use Rado EasyClip quick-release bars, so the included options are intended to be interchangeable without treating the bracelet or strap as a separate purchase. A leather pouch is also described as part of the set.

The stated water resistance is 100 m / 10 bar. That rating does not, by itself, establish suitability for every water activity; follow Rado’s guidance for the watch and its fitted strap or bracelet before exposing it to water.

For clarity, Rado’s $3,200 US price applies to the distinct 2025 39 mm R32193018, not this 37 mm limited edition. The available figures therefore describe different things: a 2022 Swiss launch price, a regional retailer’s displayed price, seller asking prices, and the price of a different later model.
Who should consider the 37 mm Over-Pole?
The R32116158 is most compelling if you want a compact steel world-time watch, enjoy setting time zones through a rotating city bezel, and prefer manual winding to an automatic movement. Its 37 mm diameter and 43.1 mm lug-to-lug measurement are useful fit references, but trying one on is the best way to judge how those dimensions suit your wrist.
- Consider it if: you want a numbered limited edition, a city-based world-time display, hand-winding, and both a beads-of-rice bracelet and leather strap in the supplied set.
- Compare alternatives if: you want an independently adjustable GMT hand, prefer an automatic watch, or need verified current pricing and availability before deciding.
- Check before buying: confirm that the listing is for reference R32116158, distinguish a seller’s asking price from a completed sale, and verify the exact contents and condition with the seller.
Verdict
The 37 mm Captain Cook Over-Pole has a clear identity: a limited steel Rado with manual winding and a rotating city bezel for reading world time. Its strongest practical differentiators are the compact stated dimensions, the 80-hour stated reserve, and the supplied bracelet-and-leather combination. The main decision is whether its city-bezel display and hand-wound operation fit your preferences better than a conventional GMT or automatic watch.
