Those impressions are still the most detailed independent assessment of these designs. The prices, buckle details and accessory policy in that article are 2020 figures, though, and the merchant’s catalog has moved on. This update separates what the 2020 review observed from what the company’s own pages say in October 2026, and gives you a way to check fit before you order.
What the 2020 review covered, and what it did not
Balazs Ferenczi reviewed five straps that were supplied to Fratello for evaluation. The article reports his impressions of feel, look and finish. It is not a long-term wear test, a durability study or a comparison of the company’s full catalog. Read it as a snapshot of five specific products as they were in September 2020.
The company describes itself as a Brooklyn-based replacement watch strap business run by father and son Ron and Barry, established in 2010. It says it sources leather from Horween Leather Co. in Chicago, Badalassi Carlo in Italy and Tanneries Haas in France, among others. These are the company’s own statements, and the company’s About Us page is where they appear. No independent audit of them was located.
The five straps reviewed in 2020
The table below lists the specifications the 2020 article gave for each strap. Where the article gave no width or length information, the cell says so rather than filling in a guess.

All five prices are the figures printed in the September 2020 article. They are not current offers and should not be used as a price guide today.
Tan Pueblo Vintage Heritage
The reviewer described a smooth feel at first handling. He noted that the marbled texture of the Pueblo leather becomes more prominent with wear, so the strap’s look changes as it ages. The rounded edges and hand-sewn waxed stitching were singled out as finishing details.

Cognac Classic Vintage
This was the strap the reviewer described as wearing well and feeling good on the wrist. Barry, speaking for the company, is quoted in the article saying the strap “adds pop and pizzazz to any watch.” That is a sales-style opinion from the company’s co-owner, not an observation from the reviewer.
Le Mans Racing
The reviewer linked this design’s inspiration to the Omega Speedmaster “Ultraman.” The smaller perforations and orange contour stitching give it a more motorsport-driven character than the rally-style Cognac.

Chicago Tan Horween Chromexcel Classic
Of the five, this strap was the one offered in the widest range of sizes in the 2020 article, with 19 and 20 mm options and small, medium and large lengths. Its pull-up leather is softer than the stiffer vegetable-tanned options, which fits the reviewer’s comments on suppleness.
Beige Vintage Suede
The suede strap has black lining and unpainted edges. It is the lowest-priced of the five in the 2020 article. Suede responds differently to moisture and dirt than smooth leather, so check the care expectations on the product page before you buy it for regular wear.

How to read the reviewer’s verdict
The reviewer’s overall impression was favorable, especially on suppleness and comfort. His own phrase was: “They feel sturdy but not stiff at all.” That is a description of how the straps felt during his review, not a durability claim or a guarantee of how they will last under your conditions.
A second opinion is available, though only in part. A Patina Project review of a B&R Bands Classic Vintage Horween strap carries the search-result headline “Beautiful leather, middling workmanship.” The full text was not reviewed for this update, so the headline is the only detail drawn from it. It is a useful counterweight to the 2020 praise, but it concerns a different product from a different reviewer, and it should be read with that in mind. Buckles, spring bars and accessories
The 2020 article said the reviewed straps came with brushed steel buckles and that spring bars were not included. Spring bars could be bought from the merchant for a small fee at the time. That was the policy in 2020. Check the product page before you order, because accessory inclusion and pricing are not established for today.
Current listing and price: a worked example
The company’s Black Textured Calf Leather Watch Band page displayed a price of $39.99 when accessed on October 8, 2026. The listing gives these specifications:
- Textured French leather
- Lug-width choices of 18, 19 and 20 mm
- Taper options of 18/16, 19/16 and 20/16 mm
- 2.5 mm thickness
- Stainless steel buckle
- Hand-sewn white stitching
This is one current product, not a summary of the catalog. Its dimensions show the kind of information a listing should give you, but another strap may differ in thickness, taper or buckle. The company’s homepage also showed free US shipping on orders of $100 and up and a clearance banner on the same date. Banner offers rotate, so confirm them at checkout.
How to choose a strap that fits your watch
- Find the lug width from your watch’s official specifications. A strap that is only close in width will not sit properly between the lugs.
- Check the strap length against your wrist circumference and the position of the buckle holes. The company says some straps come in different lengths, and lengths are model-specific.
- Choose the material by look and use. The 2020 review found smooth leathers and suede to be quite different in feel and appearance. Avoid assuming water resistance or longevity unless the product listing states it.
- Check taper, buckle width and finish, and thickness on the listing. Confirm whether spring bars or a tool are included or sold separately.
- When comparing products, line up lug width, length options, material and finish, taper and thickness, buckle details, current price and the watch you will wear the strap on. No comparative durability testing across the catalog was found, so do not treat any one strap as proven superior on wear.
