Apple released watchOS 11.2 on December 11, 2024. Its two highlighted changes were expanded Tides map support for tidal conditions and coastal locations in China, and the ability to pause iPhone video recording through Camera Remote. The watchOS 11 generation supports Apple Watch Series 6 and later, paired with iPhone XS or later running iOS 18.
To install an available update, use the Watch app on the paired iPhone or Software Update in the watch’s Settings. Keep the watch on its charger during installation; watchOS 11.2 is a historical release, so check Software Update for what is currently available for your device.

Apple’s release summary says Camera Remote can pause recording of iPhone video. This lets you control a recording from the paired Apple Watch without returning to the iPhone.
Tides maps expand to coastal locations in China
The Tides app expanded map support for tidal conditions and coastal locations in China. This was a region-specific change, not a worldwide Tides-map upgrade. Feature availability can vary by device and region.

How to update Apple Watch
Apple documents two ways to install an update when one is offered. Before starting, Apple recommends that the paired iPhone have the latest iOS version, the watch be at least 50% charged, and the iPhone be connected to Wi‑Fi. Keep the iPhone near the watch for an iPhone-led update, and leave the watch on its charger during installation.
Update using the iPhone
- Connect the paired iPhone to Wi‑Fi and make sure it has the latest iOS version.
- Open the Apple Watch app and tap My Watch > General > Software Update.
- Download the update if it is offered, then follow the prompts.
- Keep the iPhone near the watch and leave the watch on its charger while installation completes. Do not restart either device or close the Watch app during the update.
Update on the Apple Watch
- Connect the watch to Wi‑Fi and place it on its charger.
- Open Settings > General > Software Update.
- Tap Install if an update is offered, then follow the prompts.
- Leave the watch on its charger and do not restart it during installation.
Apple says installation can take several minutes to an hour. A compatible charger or charging cable is needed to follow Apple’s recommendation to leave the watch on its charger; it is not a special accessory required for the update.
