aBlogtoWatch and eBay Europe held their watch-collecting event in Vienna on July 10, 2024. It celebrated eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee and a European expansion described at the time as letting German buyers shop eligible watch listings from sellers in seven other countries. The event has passed; the 2024 European terms below should not be read as current or universal eBay policy.
What happened at the Vienna event?
Independent Austrian event coverage published on August 6, 2024, describes an evening bringing watch sellers and enthusiasts together with Kristian Haagen, a watch collector, and Ariel Adams, founder of aBlogtoWatch. Beatrice Turin hosted. Guests included Nikolaus Hirsch, CEO of Hirsch Armbänder, and Robert Punkenhofer, CEO of Carl Suchy & Söhne.
The program featured rare watches and a presentation on current watch-collecting topics, including eBay’s role in a collector’s journey. The event promoted the service with the line, “Echte Uhren. Geprüft von echten Experten” (“Real watches. Checked by real experts”). Read the Austrian event coverage.
The original aBlogtoWatch invitation page is unavailable, so the venue, RSVP process and other event logistics are not established. Ariel Adams’ social post described space as limited, but it does not supply those missing details. Adams’ event post.

What did the 2024 European expansion offer?
Austrian coverage of the event reported that German buyers could shop eligible watch listings on eBay.de from sellers in Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland. Participating listings displayed a blue badge. The report described eligibility for watches valued at €1,800 or more, sold by either business-to-consumer or consumer-to-consumer sellers, with no charge for the authentication service. These are reported 2024 terms for that European offer, not a statement of current eligibility elsewhere.
The same coverage identified Stoll & Co. as eBay’s authentication partner and described a multistage process intended to check whether a watch was authentic and matched its listing. How does that compare with eBay’s current U.S. terms?
eBay’s current U.S. watch page sets different thresholds. These details apply to eligible U.S. transactions, not to the European offer described above:

For eligible U.S. purchases, eBay says an expert checks authenticity and consistency with the listing. If a watch fails inspection, the buyer receives a refund; for some minor discrepancies, the buyer may be given a choice. The U.S. policy excludes smartwatches, parts and accessories, customized watches, certain delivery arrangements and purchases outside eligible geography. What marketplace figures were cited at the event?
The August 2024 event coverage attributed two 2023 figures to eBay: five Rolex watches sold daily on eBay.de, and a highest reported eBay.at watch sale of €17,156 for an A. Lange & Söhne Langematik. The original eBay publication behind those figures was not located, so they are reported marketplace claims, not independently audited statistics. They offer context about activity, but do not show that a particular watch is available now or that authentication makes a listing a guaranteed-quality purchase.
