Cartier heritage director Pierre Rainero and a senior designer from the 2025 collection joined collectors to connect the maison’s history with the thinking behind new watches, including the Tank à Guichets.

How Cartier history shaped the conversation
Rainero began with an image of a Tank-shaped monument at the entrance to the 1925 Exhibition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts in Paris. He used it to invite guests to talk about how they had come to Cartier. The opening set up a discussion that moved between the house’s history, collectors’ experiences and the design choices in the 2025 collection.
The Tank’s long history provided a point of reference for the event. McUtchen estimated that Cartier made roughly 100 Tank watches a year from 1917 until the 1977 launch of Must de Cartier. The watches and collectors’ reactions
McUtchen observed that Crash watches were common among those present, and he mentions rare vintage Tank à Guichets and Tank Normale examples at the gathering. He also reports that barely 400 vintage non-CPCP Tank à Guichets examples had been produced. That count is the figure in his event account; it is not independently verified there.
The report describes a positive reception for the new Tank à Guichets, but this was McUtchen’s impression of the discussion, not the result of a formal poll. The account also has a personal note: McUtchen says he ordered a pink-gold Tank Louis Cartier Automatic during the event week. That detail records his choice at the time; it does not establish present-day availability or pricing.
