Patek Philippe’s Gondolo collection stands apart through its non-round “form” watches: elegant rectangular and cushion-shaped cases, geometric lines and an Art Deco influence. The name also reaches back to a specific partnership with Rio de Janeiro retailer Gondolo & Labouriau, which began with pocket watches in the 19th century.
What makes the Gondolo collection different?
Gondolo is defined primarily by case shape, rather than by one movement or complication. Patek Philippe describes it as a collection of “form” watches with rectangular and cushion-shaped cases, interpreted with geometric simplicity and an Art Deco spirit. That gives it a visibly different character from a watch collection built around round cases.
The shapes are not limited to those found in the modern collection. Patek’s account of the historic Chronometro Gondolo wristwatches includes square, rectangular, tonneau and cushion-shaped cases. In other words, Gondolo has long been associated with varied geometric silhouettes rather than one fixed outline.
Where does the Gondolo name come from?
The name comes from Gondolo & Labouriau, a retailer in Rio de Janeiro. According to Patek Philippe’s 2009 account, the first pocket-watch consignment was sent to the retailer on November 12, 1872. From 1902, the relationship developed into a collection designed exclusively for that Brazilian customer. The first Chronometro Gondolo wristwatches appeared around 1910, and the last watch in the historic series was dispatched to Rio in 1927. Patek Philippe’s 2009 Ref. 5098R press release

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The original sales arrangement was distinctive, too. Patek’s release gives a price of 790 Swiss francs, payable in weekly installments of 10 francs for as many as 79 weeks. It describes buyers as members of an exclusive 180-person club, with 79 weekly drawings, each awarding a Chronometro Gondolo. These are historical figures from the manufacturer’s account, not current prices or terms.
How do Gondolo watches fit and wear?
Case geometry influences the look on the wrist: a rectangular or tonneau profile creates a longer, more architectural outline, while a cushion case has rounded corners. Patek says the cushion-shaped Gondolo cases use movable, articulated lugs; its Ladies First page says the rounded contours and articulated lugs are intended to enhance wearing comfort. That is the manufacturer’s design claim, so fit should still be judged on the wrist.

What does a specific Gondolo reference show?
2009 Chronometro Gondolo Ref. 5098R
The Ref. 5098R illustrates why specifications need to be checked reference by reference. Patek Philippe said this rose-gold watch was inspired by a 1925 Chronometro Gondolo. It has a tonneau case curved to follow the wrist, cambered crystal and transparent caseback, and a manually guilloched, cambered dial.
Its manually wound caliber 25-21 REC—“REC” refers to rectangular—displays hours and minutes. In the 2009 release, Patek specified a maximum power reserve of 44 hours, 142 parts, 18 jewels and a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 semi-oscillations per hour). Those details describe the Ref. 5098R, not every Gondolo. See the manufacturer’s specifications

How does Gondolo Ladies First vary within the collection?
Gondolo Ladies First applies the collection’s form-watch identity to cushion-shaped cases with articulated lugs. Patek presents the line as a colorful reinterpretation of its 2009 Ladies First Chronograph. The official line page lists six models and describes variation in precious metals, dial colors, gem-setting and movement types—including quartz, manual-winding and automatic options. These are line-level characteristics; they do not mean every reference offers every combination.
Examples show how much the look can change while the cushion silhouette remains recognizable. Patek describes Ref. 7043G with a white-gold case and blue-gray opaline dial, Ref. 7043R in rose gold with chestnut tones, and Ref. 7043GR in a combination of white and rose gold. Jewelry versions use different colored stone hour markers, including amethyst, tsavorite and blue topaz. Patek Philippe Gondolo collection

Model status and availability are time-sensitive. Patek provides a separate listing for discontinued models, so check the exact reference rather than assuming a Gondolo shown in an older release remains current. Its Ladies First page uses the wording “Unveiling … in October 2026”; that wording alone does not establish a precise launch date or confirm that every listed model is on sale. Check with Patek Philippe or an authorized retailer for current availability. Patek Philippe discontinued models
