If your Rolex is lost or stolen, act immediately: record its serial and identifying details, report the incident to police, notify your insurer, submit the Rolex Missing Watch Report where applicable, and list the serial with an independent watch registry. Do not try to recover the watch through a private meeting or assume that a clean database search proves clear ownership. Keep every report, receipt, appraisal, photograph and email together so authorities, your insurer and a service center can verify your claim.
The Rolex process differs by country. The Rolex Missing Watch Report is a U.S. process; owners elsewhere should contact local police and the relevant Rolex service center for the procedure in their jurisdiction.

What should I do in the first hour after my Rolex goes missing?
Speed and accurate records matter more than trying to investigate the loss yourself. Complete these steps in order, while details and documents are still easy to find.
- Record the watch’s identity. Write down the serial number, reference or model number, dial color and configuration, bracelet, bezel, complications, approximate purchase date and any distinctive scratches, engravings or modifications. Gather clear photographs, the purchase receipt, appraisal, guarantee-card details and prior service records. The serial number is the key identifier used by Rolex and external registries.
- Report a theft to the police or other competent local authority. Obtain the incident or report number, a copy of the report and the investigating department’s contact details. If the watch was lost rather than taken, make a lost-property report where that is the local procedure; insurers and registries still need a formal record.
- Notify your insurer promptly. Ask how the policy defines a lost item, theft, unattended property and proof of ownership. Save the policy number, claim number, adjuster’s name and contact information, and copies of everything you submit.
- Submit the Rolex Missing Watch Report if you are using the U.S. process. Use the current Rolex USA service-center route, include the police report when available and include an insurance claim copy if a claim has been filed. Keep proof of transmission and a complete copy of the submission.
- Report the serial to an independent registry. The Watch Register accepts lost and stolen watch reports and offers recovery services. Enquirus is a neutral platform intended to share loss data securely among brands, police, insurers and other industry participants.
- Monitor legitimate resale channels without confronting anyone. If you see what appears to be your watch, save the listing URL, seller name, photographs, date and messages. Give that evidence to police, your insurer and the registry rather than arranging a private handover.
- If the watch is recovered, preserve the chain of custody. Tell police and the insurer where it was found, leave the watch in its current condition, and follow their instructions before accepting delivery or authorizing service.
How do I complete a Rolex Missing Watch Report?
The Rolex form is designed to place a missing watch’s serial in Rolex’s internal records. It is an assistance process, not a guarantee that Rolex will locate or return the watch.

Information the form requires
- The unique serial number. Rolex states: “Please note that the unique serial number of your watch is mandatory for input into our database.”
- The model number and a description of the watch, including details that distinguish it from similar examples.
- The police department, report number and contact information.
- The insurer, policy number, claim number and adjuster details when an insurance claim exists.
- A copy of the police report when available and a copy of the insurance claim when one has been filed.
Submission and document deadlines
Use the current U.S. Rolex service-center instructions rather than an old fax number, email address or printed form. Retain confirmation that Rolex received the report. The form says missing documents should be forwarded within 45 business days of receipt; otherwise, the information may be deleted. Send only copies unless Rolex or an authority specifically requires an original, and keep a dated inventory of every attachment.
What should I do if the loss happened outside the United States?
Do not assume the U.S. form or its deadlines apply in another country. Start with the local police or competent authority, then contact the Rolex service center or official retailer serving your country for the current reporting route. Rolex’s official service locator is the appropriate way to find current authorized locations because addresses, telephone numbers and submission methods can change.

Ask the local Rolex contact what information it can record and how it handles a watch that later appears for service. Keep the police and insurer informed even if the local Rolex process is different.
Can Rolex track a stolen watch or provide a public serial-number lookup?
Rolex maintains private, service-related records rather than a public consumer database that certifies a watch as clear. An authorized Rolex facility may compare a watch presented for service with internal information, but a prospective buyer cannot obtain a public Rolex “clear” certificate simply by entering a serial number online.
Rolex may contact a claimant if the reported watch is submitted to a Rolex-operated U.S. service facility. The claimant remains responsible for retaining enough documentation to prove the claim, including the police and insurance records, purchase evidence and identifying photographs. The reporting process is voluntary assistance; it is not a promise of recovery or compensation.
An industry report has described a possible 12-year limit for some Rolex internal records. Retention policies can change, and that figure comes from an industry publication rather than a current Rolex guarantee. For an old loss, preserve the original police and insurance evidence and ask Rolex to confirm what information is still available.
How can I check whether a Rolex serial number was reported stolen?
Use more than one source and treat every result as a lead, not a title opinion. A registry can show that a serial has been reported, but no database contains every theft and reports may be delayed or filed in another country.
The Watch Register
The Watch Register describes itself as a global lost-and-stolen watch database operated by the Art Loss Register. Owners and insurers can report a loss, and buyers can request a serial check before completing a transaction. Its recovery service can help when a listed watch appears in the resale or service market.
Enquirus
Richemont announced Enquirus on March 30, 2023, as a neutral platform open to luxury brands. It is intended to facilitate secure, cross-border loss-data sharing among customers, police forces, insurance partners and industry participants. Availability and access depend on the platform’s current procedures and the user’s location.
Why a clean search is not proof of clear title
A “not found” result means only that the serial was absent from that database at that time. The owner may not yet have filed a report, the report may be under review, or the information may sit in a different national or private system. Combine registry results with the seller’s purchase chain, police and insurer confirmation, and professional authentication before treating a watch as safe to buy.

Coverage depends on the wording, limits, exclusions, deductible and proof requirements of your policy; a report does not by itself create coverage. Notify the insurer immediately and ask what it needs before cleaning, repairing or moving the watch. Some policies distinguish between theft, unexplained disappearance and accidental loss, so describe the facts accurately rather than choosing the category that sounds most favorable.
Documents that support a claim
- Police or incident report and report number.
- Original purchase receipt, appraisal, valuation or prior insurance schedule.
- Photographs showing the watch, serial-related records and distinctive features.
- Guarantee-card information and service invoices, if available.
- Rolex report confirmation, registry report numbers and all correspondence.
- A timeline describing when and where the watch was last seen and who had access to it.
The Rolex form asks for the insurer, policy number, claim number and adjuster, and for a copy of the insurance claim when one has been filed. Keep those records even after a settlement because they may be needed if the watch later turns up.

A service submission can create the first practical opportunity for an internal match. An authorized Rolex facility may compare the watch’s serial and characteristics with its private records and may contact the claimant associated with a missing-watch report.

Send the facility’s name, location, submission date, listing or receipt and any photographs to the police and insurer. Ask those authorities how they want the watch preserved and whether they will coordinate with Rolex or the registry. A private recovery can compromise evidence, create ownership disputes or conflict with an insurance settlement.
If the watch is found, retain the documentation that proves your claim and record every transfer. Do not authorize polishing, replacement parts or other work until police and the insurer agree, because changes can affect identification and evidence.
Which reporting and recovery route should I use?
Each route answers a different question. Use the official and private channels together rather than treating one as a substitute for the others.
| Route | Primary authority or coverage | Best timing | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Police or competent authority | Creates the official incident record and report number | Immediately after theft or loss | Procedures and cross-border access vary by jurisdiction |
| Insurer | Evaluates coverage and any financial claim | Promptly, before evidence or policy deadlines are missed | Coverage depends on the policy and proof |
| Rolex Missing Watch Report | Rolex’s internal service-related records; U.S. form | After obtaining identifying information and a police report when available | Serial is mandatory; voluntary assistance and no recovery guarantee |
| The Watch Register | Global multi-brand lost-and-stolen watch database and recovery service | As soon as the serial and loss details are known | A clean result cannot establish authenticity or ownership |
| Enquirus | Neutral, cross-border data sharing among brands, police, insurers and industry participants | After or alongside official reporting | Platform access and procedures may vary by location |
| Authorized Rolex service facility | Potential point of discovery if the watch enters the service network | When a located watch is submitted for service | It is not a public lookup service and cannot be relied on as a tracking system |
What if the Rolex guarantee card was also lost?
Rolex states that a guarantee card cannot be re-issued under any circumstances. It advises contacting the Official Rolex Retailer from which the watch was purchased, but the missing card is a separate issue from reporting the watch’s serial and loss.
Continue with the police, insurer and Rolex reporting steps even without the card. A receipt, appraisal, photographs, service history and other ownership records can still help establish the watch’s identity and your claim. Do not delay a theft report while trying to replace paperwork that Rolex says cannot be re-issued.
What mistakes can weaken a lost-watch report?
- Waiting to report because you are still searching privately.
- Guessing a serial number or model reference instead of marking it as unverified and checking original records.
- Sending original documents without retaining scans or copies.
- Assuming a database search covers every country or every theft.
- Using an old Rolex contact route instead of confirming the current authorized service-center details.
- Meeting a suspected seller alone or accepting a watch without police and insurer coordination.
- Failing to update Rolex, the insurer and registries when the watch is recovered or when new evidence appears.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I report a Rolex if I do not know the serial number yet?
The Rolex Missing Watch Report requires a unique serial number, so it cannot be entered completely without one. Make the police and insurance reports with the most accurate model, photographs and distinctive details available, then update every record as soon as you recover the serial from a receipt, appraisal, service invoice or retailer record.
Does a clean serial-number search mean a pre-owned Rolex is safe to buy?
No. A registry may not contain a recent report or a record filed in another country, and a serial search does not prove authenticity or ownership. Require documented provenance, independent authentication and a written sale record in addition to checking available loss databases.
Is a missing Rolex guarantee card proof that the watch was stolen?
No. Rolex says guarantee cards cannot be re-issued, but cards can be misplaced, retained by a previous owner or absent from a legitimate older transaction. Treat the missing card as a due-diligence issue and verify the serial, provenance and service history rather than drawing a theft conclusion from the card alone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat should I do if I find my Rolex years after an insurance payout?
Do not sell it, service it or arrange a private exchange. Notify the insurer, police and every registry where it was reported, provide the location and preserve the watch and documents so they can determine ownership, any insurer rights and the proper chain of custody.
