But the expected Fitbit Charge 7 did not arrive in 2025.
Google confirmed only that new Fitbit hardware was planned for 2026. It did not name the product, reveal a launch date, or publish specifications. That makes the Charge 7 a plausible prediction—not a confirmed 2025 product.
Was there a Fitbit Charge 7 in 2025?
No. There was no confirmed Charge 7 launch, announcement, price, product image or specification sheet during 2025. The Charge 6 remained Fitbit’s latest mainstream fitness tracker throughout the year.
The confusion came from a mixture of timing and expectation. The Charge 6 had been on the market for roughly two years, while Fitbit’s other current products were older still. The Inspire 3 launched in 2022, as did the Versa 4 and Sense 2. That made a replacement tracker feel overdue, even though Google had not formally announced one.

September 2025 reports described the next Fitbit as a possibility based largely on the company’s apparent product cycle. Those reports should be treated as speculation, not as evidence that a Charge 7 had been leaked or scheduled.
What Google actually confirmed
On October 27, 2025, Google told 9to5Google that it was “launching new Fitbit hardware next year.” The important word is “hardware”: Google did not say Charge 7.
| Question | Confirmed position |
|---|---|
| Did a Charge 7 launch in 2025? | No |
| Was a 2025 release date announced? | No |
| Did Google identify the 2026 product? | No |
| Was new Fitbit hardware planned? | Yes, according to Google’s October 2025 statement |
| Was a new Fitbit smartwatch confirmed? | No |
The 2026 hardware could have been a Charge successor, an Inspire replacement, or another type of Fitbit device. Google gave consumers no reliable basis for choosing among those possibilities.
Why a new tracker seemed more likely than a new Fitbit smartwatch
Google’s wearable strategy increasingly separates its two brands. Pixel Watch is the company’s smartwatch platform, while Fitbit remains associated with smaller, simpler and longer-lasting fitness trackers.

- Fitbit Charge 6 tracks key metrics from calories and Active Zone Minutes to Daily Readiness and sleep; move more with 40+ exercise modes, built-in GPS, all-day activity tracking, 24/7 heart rate, automatic exercising tracking, and more[1]
- See your heart rate in real time: Just link your Charge 6 to compatible exercise machines, like treadmills, ellipticals, and more[2]; and stay connected with YouTube Music controls[3]
- Tune into your body: Track your response to stress with a stress management score; learn about the quality of your sleep with a personalized nightly Sleep Score; and wake up more naturally with the Smart Wake alarm
- Run your routine with Google essentials: Find your way seamlessly during runs or rides with turn-by-turn directions from Google Maps on Fitbit Charge 6; and when you need a snack break on the go, just tap to pay with Google Wallet[1,4]
- Unlock more with Google Health Premium: With a premium membership, get personalized coaching that’s built with Gemini and adapts to your life[7]; get a 3-month trial at no cost to you[5] (Google Health Premium subscription sold separately)
That does not prove the Versa and Sense lines are permanently finished. It does, however, make a new Fitbit-branded smartwatch less obvious than a successor to the Charge or Inspire. A Fitbit tracker can serve people who want health and activity data without the size, charging routine and app complexity of a full smartwatch.
For buyers waiting in 2025, this distinction mattered. A Charge 7 would likely have been an evolutionary tracker aimed at Fitbit’s existing audience; a Pixel Watch is a broader smartwatch product with a different shape, battery expectation and feature set.
The biggest Fitbit change in 2025 was software
Instead of unveiling a new tracker, Google’s major Fitbit announcement was a Gemini-powered personal health coach, introduced on August 20, 2025.
Google described the coach as a way to create personalized fitness plans, offer sleep guidance, answer health questions and provide proactive insights. It initially appeared as a Fitbit Premium preview in the United States, rather than as a finished feature available to every Fitbit owner.

- Designed for every occasion: With no screen to distract you or disrupt your style, your tracker moves seamlessly from bracelet to workout band to sleep band, and you can change looks in seconds – just press the pebble in, click, and go
- Long battery life: Google Fitbit Air’s battery lasts up to a week, and fast charging gets you one day of battery life in just five minutes[6,7]
Google also cautioned that the displayed features and interface could change or be removed before launch. The tool was described as intended for general wellness and fitness, not as a medical device. That is an important limitation: an AI coach may make existing Fitbit hardware more useful, but it is not a substitute for medical advice or proof of a new tracker.
What happened to the Fitbit app?
Google was also rebuilding the Fitbit app around coaching and AI. The planned improvements included clearer data visualization, easier layouts, better syncing and dark mode. The preview was associated with compatible Fitbit and Pixel Watch devices and Fitbit Premium.
That redesign may have been part of a broader transition, but it was not tied to a confirmed Charge 7. App changes, account migration and the move of Fitbit shopping to the Google Store were sometimes interpreted as signs that a product launch was close. None of them confirmed new hardware.
Should you wait for a Charge 7?
That depends on what you need from a tracker now.
- Buy the Charge 6 if you need a Fitbit today. It remained the current mainstream Charge model through 2025, and there was no announced Charge 7 specification to compare against it.
- Wait if your current tracker still works. Google’s statement about 2026 hardware justified waiting, but it did not guarantee a Charge 7 specifically.
- Consider a Pixel Watch if you want smartwatch features. Fitbit’s tracker range and Google’s smartwatch range are increasingly aimed at different buyers.
- Do not buy based on an unverified specification list. Claims about battery life, sensors, display changes or a launch price were not confirmed by Google in 2025.
Anyone shopping should also check software and account requirements. Google has been moving Fitbit users toward Google Accounts, and help documentation listed migration deadlines that varied by timing and region. That migration was a service change, not evidence that a Charge 7 was about to launch.

What the later update tells us
With hindsight, Google announced the Fitbit Air on May 7, 2026. It was described as a screenless Fitbit tracker for 24/7 health monitoring and sleep tracking, with a week-long battery life.
That announcement confirms that the next Fitbit product was not a 2025 Charge 7. It does not establish that the Charge family has ended, nor does it confirm that a future Charge-series successor will appear. The safest conclusion is narrower: Fitbit’s next confirmed hardware arrived as a different kind of tracker, while the Charge 7 remains unconfirmed.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: the Charge 7 was a sensible 2025 expectation, but not a real 2025 launch. Google confirmed only that new Fitbit hardware was coming in 2026, without naming the model.
