The appeal is not only the transformation: Sutcliffe explains the work as it unfolds, making the careful process part of the story.
How Marshall Sutcliffe found watch restoration
In a 2022 interview with Time+Tide Watches, Sutcliffe said he had collected vintage watches for several years before discovering the Watch Repair Channel, run by Mark Lovick. Much of Sutcliffe’s work and hobbies had become computer-based, and he wanted to spend more time working with his hands.
He considered restoring watches a practical alternative to working on cars: it offered hands-on work he could do at a desk. After taking courses offered by Lovick, he became absorbed in the craft. Sutcliffe recalled, “I was collecting vintage watches for a few years, and I found a YouTube channel call the Watch Repair Channel. I was fascinated by what I saw, and I realised that my job and hobbies had almost all become computer and online based and I missed working with my hands.”
What makes the videos worth following
The restorations give viewers a close look at a watch’s change from worn or neglected to working and presentable, while Sutcliffe’s explanations help make each stage understandable. Time+Tide’s profile highlights the before-and-after work and his enthusiasm for the process. An Omega Seamaster 120 restoration was the video that first caught the profile author’s attention; the feature also discusses a Gruen pink-gold pocket watch. These are examples from the profile, not a complete catalogue of Sutcliffe’s work.

The satisfaction is in the small details
Asked about returning a mainspring to its barrel, Sutcliffe focused on the tactile reward of the task: “There’s just something really satisfying about the sound and feel it makes when it pops back in. It’s like you know it’s got all this energy stored up in it, but for now, that energy is safely harnessed. It’s really the best sound!”
That attention to a small mechanical moment captures what makes restoration videos compelling: the result matters, but so does seeing and hearing the work that brings a watch back to life.

Following the account—and learning the craft
@wristwatch_revival is a good follow for viewers curious about vintage-watch restoration and the hands-on work behind a finished watch. Sutcliffe described taking courses from Mark Lovick as part of his own route into the craft. The 2022 profile does not establish Sutcliffe’s current posting schedule or account status, nor does it identify particular tools or current product recommendations. “Watch repair tools” is a broad category for anyone exploring the work, not a recommendation attributed to Sutcliffe.
