What makes it a Submariner
Rolex dates the Submariner’s launch to 1953, when the watch was guaranteed waterproof to 100 metres (330 feet). In the brand’s historical account, the Date version arrived in 1969; the Date model reached 300 metres (1,000 feet) of water resistance in 1979, while the no-date Submariner reached that depth in 1989. Rolex’s waterproofness history quotes founder Hans Wilsdorf: “We must find a way to create a waterproof wristwatch.” The line captures the original engineering aim, but it does not by itself explain why an individual buyer chose this two-tone, blue-dial Date model.

Rolex says genuine watches are sold exclusively through Official Rolex Jewelers and that it does not sell watches directly from its website.
