Xezo’s catalog marks the D45-R as retired; the available manual covers a D45-S chronograph family and describes a Swiss-made quartz movement, two crowns, and an inner rotating bezel. It does not establish every specification for either exact reference, so buyers should verify the watch’s suffix and documentation before relying on a rating or feature claim.
What the records establish about the D45-R and D45-S
Xezo’s official catalog lists the Air Commando D45-R (SKU Air Commando D45-R) as retired. That is a catalog status, not proof that every retailer has stopped selling examples; it also does not establish a current price or availability.
The Xezo operating manual is for Air Commando chronograph models D45-S, BU, B, and GS. It describes a limited edition of 500 and a two-crown layout. It does not provide a complete suffix-by-suffix specification map. In particular, the title’s “D-45S” should not be silently treated as D45-SR, D45-SS, or another D45 variant.
The evidence therefore supports an operational overview of the documented D45-S family, but not a confirmed D45-R-versus-D45-S comparison. A related Worn & Wound hands-on article concerns the D44-L, so it offers family context rather than a direct review of either watch here.
#1 Best Overall
- Air Force emblem watch has a large 42mm polished chrome case with a stainless steel back and black leather strap.
- The 3 hand quartz movement is by Miyota with a Maxell SR621SW battery
- The watch will fit an average adult wrist.
- Comes with a handsome Military Time gift box.
What the D45-S family manual says
The manual specifies a Swiss-made 13-jewel precision quartz chronograph. It lists 316L stainless steel for the case and bracelet, with a leather band as an option, and a flat Swiss-made sapphire crystal with anti-reflection. It describes the battery as long-life, approximately 4.5 years after activation; that is the manual’s estimate, not a guarantee for an individual watch.
The manual gives water resistance as a range of 200 m / 660 ft to 300 m / 990 ft across the models it covers. It does not assign a particular rating to the plain D45-S in the available material. Do not infer that either a D45-S or D45-R has a specific rating without documentation for its exact reference and condition.
No verified exact case diameter or thickness for the D45-R or D45-S is established here. A 2015 The Watch Dude result gives 45 mm diameter and 13 mm thickness for an Air Commando, but does not securely identify either exact reference. Those figures should not be used as confirmed D45-R or D45-S dimensions.
How the two crowns, inner bezel, and chronograph work
The manual places Crown A at 3 o’clock for local time, day, and date, and Crown B at 10 o’clock to operate the inner rotating bezel. Xezo describes the model as a two-crown chronograph; the two controls serve different purposes.

Set local time, day, and date
Use Crown A at 3 o’clock for the calendar and local-time adjustments described in the manual. Follow the manual’s setting instructions for the specific watch rather than forcing a crown or changing calendar settings outside the stated procedure.
Rank #2
- Adjustable black 20mm FastWrap strap with hook & loop closure fits up to 8-inch wrist circumference
- Orange dial with full Arabic numerals & team logo
- Black 40mm resin case with scratch-resistant acrylic lens
- Luminant hands
- Water resistant to 50m (165ft: in general, suitable for short periods of recreational swimming, but not diving or snorkeling
Use the inner bezel
Crown B at 10 o’clock controls the inner bezel. The manual describes it for tracking a second time zone or elapsed time. For elapsed time, align the bezel’s reference mark with the relevant hand at the start, then read elapsed time against the bezel scale. The manual does not establish a different bezel direction or more specific operating behavior for every suffix.
Operate and secure screw-down controls
The manual instructs owners to unscrew the relevant controls before operation and screw them down again afterward. It warns that leaving controls unlocked can compromise water resistance. Do not treat the printed depth range as permission to use an individual, possibly aged watch underwater without confirming its exact rating and having its seals tested.
The chronograph controls provide start, stop, restart, and reset functions. Check that the chronograph starts and stops, and that it returns to zero correctly; a misaligned reset hand is a practical warning sign to investigate rather than a cosmetic detail to dismiss.
What to verify before buying a retired example
Because the D45-R is cataloged as retired and the suffixes are not fully mapped in the manual, evaluate the specific watch and its paperwork rather than relying on a family-level listing. Ask the seller for clear photographs of the dial, case back, crowns, and any reference or model documentation.
- Exact reference: Confirm the case-back or other identifying markings and whether the watch is D45-R, D45-S, D45-SR, D45-SS, or another variant.
- Movement and functions: Request evidence of the movement type for that exact reference. For a claimed D45-S-family chronograph, check the chronograph, crown, and bezel functions.
- Water resistance: Ask for a recent pressure-test record tied to the actual watch. A manual’s family-wide range does not certify the condition or rating of a used example.
- Condition: Inspect the crystal for chips or deep scratches, the case and bracelet for damage, and the strap or bracelet fit and condition.
- Service evidence: Request battery and service records, especially if the watch’s history is unclear or the controls do not operate smoothly.
- Purchase terms: Check the seller’s return window and what recourse applies if the reference, condition, or operation differs from the listing.
Service and ownership considerations
The manual recommends service about once every four to five years, with parts inspected and the battery replaced at regular intervals. This is the manufacturer manual’s guidance, not an independently confirmed interval for every surviving example. It directs owners to Xezo for after-sales service, but current service terms and availability are not established here.
