The Xiaomi Watch S4 is a traditional-looking smartwatch with a removable bezel, a rotating crown, an AMOLED display and a broad set of fitness features. Its strongest case is style and everyday smartwatch use; its main trade-offs are a closed app ecosystem, phone-dependent Bluetooth calls and fitness tracking that reviewers found imperfect.
It is worth considering if you want a customizable watch for notifications, calls and general activity tracking, and do not need Wear OS-style apps or cellular independence. Check local payment support and current price before buying, since availability and NFC payments vary by market.

Design: a smartwatch that looks like a watch
The standard Watch S4’s defining design feature is its removable bezel. Tech Advisor describes the redesign as a more refined take on the bezel-heavy S3, with the previous top physical button replaced by a rotating crown. The aluminum case and traditional watch styling give the S4 a more conventional appearance than many fitness-first watches. These are design impressions, not performance claims.
Tech Advisor reports a 47.3 mm case, a 1.43-inch display and interchangeable bezel and strap styles. Accessory fit and availability are model- and market-specific, so confirm that any replacement strap or bezel is intended for the standard Watch S4 before ordering. A sport-friendly replacement strap may be useful for exercise, but connector and case fit matter.

The standard model has a 1.43-inch AMOLED display with 466 × 466 resolution and supports an always-on display. Tech Advisor describes the screen as brighter than the S3, but comparisons of brightness figures depend on how and where they were measured. The always-on option keeps information visible at a glance, with a battery-life trade-off.
Battery life: the 15-day claim is a best-case figure
Xiaomi advertises up to 15 days of typical-use battery life based on internal-lab testing. Its test setup used factory defaults and a specified watch face, turned off several intensive health-monitoring functions, checked heart rate every 10 minutes, included notifications and limited weekly calls and exercise. Xiaomi says actual results vary with use, settings, operation and environment.
Tech Advisor found that always-on display and heavier GPS and continuous blood-oxygen use shortened endurance substantially. The reviewer reported about a 20% daily battery drop with always-on display in their use, and said heavier use could bring runtime closer to two or three days. Those are the reviewer’s results, not a guaranteed runtime for every owner.
How to plan for battery life
- Decide whether you need the always-on display; disabling it can conserve power.
- Use continuous health monitoring only if it suits your needs, since intensive monitoring can reduce runtime.
- Expect frequent GPS workouts to affect battery life more than light everyday use.
- Use Xiaomi’s 15-day figure as a controlled-test claim, not a promise for your own settings.
Fitness and health tracking
Xiaomi advertises more than 150 sports modes and dual-frequency GNSS. Tech Advisor also notes running plans and training metrics such as VO₂ max and training load. Those features make the watch suitable to consider for everyday activity and recreational exercise, but feature counts alone do not establish tracking accuracy.

In Tech Advisor’s standard-model review, step counts aligned reasonably with two other trackers, while GPS distance came up short of a Garmin and maximum heart-rate readings were sometimes elevated. These are that reviewer’s observations, not a universal result. Wareable’s GPS comments concern the separate 41mm variant and should not be treated as a direct test of the standard model.
Xiaomi’s stated 98% heart-rate accuracy is a company claim reported by Tech Advisor, not an independently validated guarantee. The review also notes that the watch does not have regulatory-approved health-monitoring features. Use its readings for general information and trends, not diagnosis or medical decisions.
Software and everyday smartwatch features
The global standard Watch S4 runs HyperOS 2 and works with Android 8.0 or later and iOS 14.0 or later, according to Xiaomi’s specifications. It supports notifications and Bluetooth calls while connected to a smartphone. Xiaomi says third-party-app voice calls are not supported, and the watch does not offer the app and Google-service breadth of Wear OS models.
Some functions depend on the phone. Tech Advisor notes, for example, that onboard music-player access differs for iPhone users. Xiaomi’s Smart Hub also has specific requirements: its Singapore guidance requires a supported Xiaomi phone or tablet running the latest HyperOS 2, current Mi Fitness and Xiaomi Home app version 10.4 or later. Xiaomi names specific phone rollout timing and says more models may be added, so do not assume broad smart-home controls are available on every Xiaomi device.

NFC payments: verify support in your region
Xiaomi lists NFC, but payment availability depends on region, variant and participating banks. Wareable’s review of the 41mm variant describes limited payment compatibility in its UK experience and wider compatibility in Poland; those observations do not establish support for the standard model in every market. Check the local Xiaomi product information and your bank before relying on the watch for contactless payments.
Water resistance and durability
The Watch S4 is rated 5ATM. Xiaomi says this permits swimming in pools, swimming near shore and other shallow-water activities. It is not for diving, hot showers or saunas; Xiaomi also warns against impacts from swift currents and says water resistance may diminish over time. A 5ATM rating should not be read as a recommendation to dive to 50 metres.
Price and availability
Tech Advisor reported a UK review price of £129.99 in 2025. That is historical context, not a current price or confirmation of present availability. Check Xiaomi’s local store and authorized retailers for current pricing, stock and warranty terms before buying.
Who should buy the Xiaomi Watch S4?
Consider it if:
- You prefer a traditional-looking watch with a customizable bezel.
- You want everyday smartwatch functions and general fitness tracking.
- You use a compatible Android phone or are comfortable with the limitations of iPhone pairing.
- You do not require a large third-party app ecosystem or cellular service on the watch.
Look elsewhere if:
