The Zenith Chronomaster Sport introduced the El Primero 3600 in regular production in 2021. Its central chronograph hand takes 10 seconds to complete one dial revolution; read against the bezel’s 1/10th-second graduations, it displays elapsed time in tenths. The hand does not make a revolution every tenth of a second.

How the Chronomaster Sport reads 1/10th of a second

Zenith’s January 2021 launch sheet describes the El Primero 3600 as an automatic, column-wheel chronograph with a central chronograph hand that makes one turn in 10 seconds. The black ceramic bezel carries graduations for tenths of a second, which let the wearer read the fast-moving hand at that resolution. The display is a chronograph indication, not a claim that the watch’s everyday timekeeping accuracy is one tenth of a second.

The dial separates the other indications: a 60-second chronograph counter sits at 3 o’clock, a 60-minute counter at 6, small seconds at 9, and the date at 4:30. Zenith’s 2021 launch specifications give the central hand’s 10-second rotation and the bezel’s tenth-second scale.

What the El Primero 3600 adds

The launch specification lists a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, or 5 Hz, and a minimum power reserve of 60 hours. Frequency describes the movement’s oscillation rate; by itself, it does not establish a real-world accuracy result.

In its 2021 review, Hodinkee explains that the 3600 takes its chronograph drive from the escape wheel, unlike the earlier El Primero 400. The review presents that change as supporting the central hand’s faster rotation. It is a technical explanation from the review, rather than an independent performance test.

Design context and configurations

Hodinkee connects the overlapping colored counters to the 1969 El Primero A386 and says Zenith cited De Luca models as context for the case configuration. The reference supplies historical context for the design; it does not mean the Chronomaster Sport is a reissue of either watch.

The current Zenith product page describes a listed Chronomaster Sport with El Primero 3600 SK, an additional black rubber strap, and a steel bracelet with a micro-adjustable folding clasp. Those details apply to that page’s model; they should not be assumed to fit every earlier reference or third-party strap. The available source does not state lug width or establish generic strap compatibility. Zenith product page.

What the watch cost at launch

Prices in the launch-era sources are historical, not current quotes. Zenith’s 2021 launch sheet lists CHF 9,400 or CHF 9,900 depending on configuration. Hodinkee reported U.S. launch prices of $9,500 on rubber and $10,000 on a steel bracelet. The sources do not establish present-day price, stock, or seller authorization.
