The gold Zenith Elite Chronograph Classic is reference 18.2270.4069/01.C498: a 42 mm rose-gold chronograph powered by El Primero Calibre 4069. A 2016 hands-on review describes a clean, date-free silver dial and a two-register chronograph that times up to 30 minutes. Its reported 150-piece edition and US$21,600 list price are historical details—not evidence of current availability or value.

Which Zenith is the gold Elite Chronograph Classic?

The reference covered here is 18.2270.4069/01.C498, reviewed by Robert-Jan Broer for Fratello on April 25, 2016. Zenith’s March 3, 2016 launch announcement describes the Elite Chronograph Classic as a 42 mm steel or rose-gold watch with El Primero Calibre 4069.

The naming combines two collection terms: the watch belongs to the Elite collection, while its movement is an El Primero. Broer notes that the dial identifies the brand as “Zenith” but does not print “Elite,” so the collection name may not be obvious from the face alone.

This is not the current 36 mm Elite Classic with a diamond-set bezel. That is a different watch; its specifications should not be applied to this chronograph.

Case, dial and wrist presence

Broer reports a 42 mm rose-gold case measuring 11.8 mm thick. He found it wore well on his own wrist, despite initially wondering whether 42 mm would feel large for a classic dress-watch design. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a fit guarantee: wrist shape, strap adjustment and personal taste all affect how the watch wears.

The reviewer describes a silver sunray dial beneath a domed sapphire crystal, with gold-plated applied indexes and leaf-shaped hands. A thin bezel leaves the dial visually broad. There is no date window, a choice Broer considered consistent with the clean design.

What the chronograph does

The two-register layout displays chronograph seconds and elapsed minutes. Broer says the minute counter runs to 30 minutes, so this is not a chronograph for measuring longer intervals without restarting or keeping separate track of completed half-hour periods.

His review reports a minimum 50-hour power reserve, a column wheel and 254 movement parts. It also describes decorated movement finishing visible through a sapphire caseback. These are review-reported specifications and observations, not results of independent testing for this article.

  • Zenith Chronomaster Revival El Primero Chronograph Automatic White Dial Men's Watch 03.A384.400/21.C815

Zenith’s official brand timeline dates the El Primero unveiling to January 10, 1969, and says its 36,000-vibrations-per-hour rate enabled measurement to 1/10 second. Those are Zenith’s historical statements about El Primero; they do not establish a measured timing result for this particular watch.

Strap, clasp and edition details

Broer describes the reviewed watch on a stitched black alligator strap with a gold folding clasp. He also reports that the caseback indicated an edition of 150 pieces. That limited-edition count is based on what the reviewer says he saw on the caseback; it does not establish how many examples remain available today.

What did it cost, and what is known now?

Fratello’s April 25, 2016 review reported list prices of US$21,600 for the rose-gold version and US$8,900 for the steel version. These are article-era list prices, not current asking prices, valuations or confirmed transaction prices. Current production status, availability and market value are not established by the cited sources.

If assessing an example for sale, use the exact reference and judge that individual watch rather than treating the old list price as a benchmark. Check condition, authenticity, service documentation, included strap and clasp, and whether the seller can substantiate the reference and edition marking. No direct competitor comparison is established here.
