These records establish variation, not a definitive catalogue of every Sea Dragon reference. In particular, case shape, subdial positions and day/date placement described in historical coverage should not be assumed to apply to ZO2240, ZS2236 or another reference without matching evidence.
What the design and chronograph layout suggest
Worn & Wound characterized the Sea Dragon Chronograph as having “a bit of that vintage racing chrono flair” in its 2016 coverage. That is the publication’s description, rather than a specification. The documented layouts vary: Worn & Wound described a three-register example with subdials at 12, 6 and 9 and day/date at 3, while a 2010 TimeZone seller described a two-register example.

In a 2018 article, Hodinkee author James Stacey recalled buying a Sea Dragon Chronograph early in his watch-collecting experience. He described his watch as “A large, ’70s-inspired quartz chronograph with a look that felt a bit like a Monaco crossed with a big vintage diver.” That article’s hands-on subject was the Super Sea Wolf Diver, not the Sea Dragon, so it is a personal recollection rather than a hands-on review of the Sea Dragon reference discussed here. Movement and water-resistance claims
The cited retailer listings describe ZO2240 and ZS2236 as quartz chronographs, and FiveFortyFive describes ZO2242 as a Swiss quartz chronograph. These are published listing descriptions, not results of an independent movement inspection. The available records do not establish a single movement specification for every Sea Dragon Chronograph reference.

Zales lists 100 m water resistance for ZO2240 and ZS2236, and FiveFortyFive lists the same figure for ZO2242. Those published ratings are not evidence that a particular used watch still has intact seals or is safe to submerge. A seller’s 2010 description of a separate example also stated 100 m, while explicitly declining to guarantee its water resistance. For a used watch, treat the rating as a reference-level listing claim unless the condition of that specimen has been checked.
Does a Sea Dragon Chronograph take a 22 mm strap?
Only the documented references and examples with an explicitly stated lug width support that figure: FiveFortyFive lists 22 mm for ZO2242, Worn & Wound gives 22 mm for its 2016 example, and the TimeZone seller gave 22 mm for the watch in that 2010 post. This does not prove that every Sea Dragon Chronograph takes a 22 mm strap. Confirm the reference and measure the actual watch’s lug gap before ordering a replacement.

- Match the reference. Compare the number on the watch or paperwork with the seller’s listing. Do not rely on “Sea Dragon Chronograph” alone.
- Compare the actual configuration. Check dial and strap color, case width, bezel, chronograph-register layout, and date or day/date display against reference-specific documentation or clear photographs.
- Separate stated specifications from verified condition. A published 100 m rating does not confirm the seals on an older or used specimen. Ask for evidence of a recent water-resistance check if that matters to your intended use.
