Zwim Goggles Brought HUD Tech to the Pool—What Happened to Them?

Zwim’s 2017 HUD goggles promised in-view swim metrics, but campaign-era reports do not confirm that the product shipped or remains available.

Zwim was presented in 2017 as a pair of swimming goggles with a heads-up display (HUD) for viewing workout data while swimming. The idea was to avoid stopping to check a watch or trying to operate a wet touchscreen. But the available campaign-era reports describe a product in development, not confirmed delivery: they do not establish that Zwim goggles shipped or are available today.

What Zwim’s swimming goggles were designed to do

South Korean startup Zwim proposed putting workout information inside the swimmer’s field of view. In a 2017 report, Wareable said CEO Taegoo Kang developed the idea from his own swimming and triathlon training, where checking a watch interrupted a session. “I swim around three times a week and also train for triathlons, and the desire came from my personal experience,” Kang told the publication.

The company described 23 sets of data, including heart-rate zones and averages, calories, elapsed time, lap time and lap count. The Indiegogo campaign description also listed distance, time of day, workout timing and additional lap-time and heart-rate values. These were advertised features; the sources do not independently verify the measurements or their accuracy.

What the campaign said about specifications and price

The Indiegogo listing gave the following campaign-era specifications. They are vendor statements, not independent test results, and do not show what a delivered product would necessarily have achieved.

Prices reported at the time were also tied to crowdfunding, not current retail offers. Wareable reported that an earlier Kickstarter attempt had raised more than $16,000 before being canceled and relaunched on Indiegogo. It said the Kickstarter price had been $300, the revised price was about $200, early-bird offers started at $199, and the anticipated eventual retail price was $380. The Indiegogo page displayed a $229 reward. None of these figures establishes a present-day price or a live way to buy the product.

Why delivery remains uncertain

In October 2017, Kang told Wareable that the team was “80% of the way there” on manufacturing partners and supply-chain logistics. The article also noted that production could still be delayed. That progress estimate shows manufacturing was still being worked out at the time; it does not confirm what happened afterward. Kang also said testers did not find the goggles particularly off-putting, but that comment is an attributed company statement, not independent evidence of comfort, safety or performance.

The reviewed campaign and reporting sources do not establish that units shipped, and they do not demonstrate that Zwim improved swimming performance. A proposed HUD and a list of metrics are not evidence that the device made swimmers faster or measured them reliably.

Zwim today is a different product offering

The current ZWIM homepage describes “Connected Swim Training” centered on Smart Paddles, a home Smart Trainer, an app, workouts, membership and live feedback. Its FAQ describes the system as a way to add land-based training between pool sessions. That is materially different from the 2017 goggles with an in-eye display. The available sources do not establish the relationship between the historical project and today’s offering, so the current Smart Trainer should not be treated as proof that the HUD goggles remain on sale.

Smart swim goggles remain a product category

For a current example of display-equipped goggles—not a successor or continuation of Zwim—the FORM Smart Swim 1 product page listed a $179 price when accessed October 5, 2026. FORM describes real-time swim metrics, a 16-hour battery life, and replaceable eye seals and head strap. Prices and specifications can change, so check the manufacturer’s page for current details.

For a swimmer choosing between an in-goggle display and a swim watch, useful questions include where the data appears, which metrics are supported, how heart rate is measured or connected, pool versus open-water suitability, battery life, fit and prescription options, and whether an app or syncing is required. The available information here is not a like-for-like independent comparison, so it cannot establish a best option.
